I remember when xkcd did this, with an extra twist. The comic came out Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and there was usually a special comic for April Fools Day. Monday, March 31th, 2008 was #403. Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008 was #405. The prank that year was this secret URL with nothing there, and it was impossible to tell that anything happened until the next day (when the comic was #405).
Russian RUclips show about funny videos “This is Horosho” (RIP) also skipped episode 404 (they released a video with nothing but an error message) and they episodes _were_ zero-indexed as well. They ended up celebrating on episode 499 though because they forgor about 404 (although one can argue ep.404 isn’t missing so they celebrated correctly). Yes, I was screaming the answer for almost the entire video.

My Brother, My Brother, and Me is the McElroys' podcast, and they did in fact skip episode 420 because they weren't emotionally prepared for their 420 episode when it would have normally been released. They then released "episode 420" in the middle of the 500s on April 20, 2021, which also served as an in memoriam for Yahoo Answers being shut down. I half expected this question to be about that podcast

Here's something that blew my mind, and helped understand how one infinite quantity can be larger than another. The set of whole numbers is infinite. and between each successive whole number there is an infinite set of fractional numbers. There are infinitely more fractional numbers than whole number.

Starting at 0 means the 500th video you make is episode 499, and that episode 500 is the 501st episode made, so 0 indexing could make the episode late or early depending.
My first thought was "this is a 0 index error... or is it? Would 0 indexing cause that kind of error? Yes? No?" ... it was hilarious to hear the entire panel + Tom all fumble with the same question for a full minute.
Honestly kinda surprised at the zero-indexing confusion. I'm pretty sure Tom has more programming under his belt than I do, and I've had to deal with it a bunch of times.
You got it backwards. Truly experienced engineers get the right answer first time but _worry_ they got it wrong because they remember that time they did until the end of time.

What really happened was, they made episode 404 but the called in "No such file exists" se when they called it up later, they didn't realize that the file was there, so they didn't click on the file's name.
OK, I'm nerdy enough to get why episode 404 not being found makes sense, but how many aren't? Because there are people in the comments who said they didn't, and there are probably more.
404 is the standard Internet error code for a completely missing site, so of course the joke is that you don't DO an episode 404 hence it doesn't exist

Yes, they celebrated at the number 500, but there weren’t yet 500 episodes. If they had celebrated at the 500th episode, you are correct it would have been 501.
