i am 51 now, and this guy, Ace Frehley was the one who inspired me to start playing guitar all those years ago now, , 40 years of jamming and all due to Ace, thanks for the jams man
So happy to see all these positive comments. Ace is the best. Like most others here, he was the reason I started playing. How could you not. Back in the 70's, because of Ace, guitars where flying off shelves. He inspired so many to play. I wanted to be him back in my teens. Who didn't?? Great times back then : )
Ace created the most memorable solos and played/wrote some of the most popular Kiss songs period. His leads complimented the songs like none of the others who came after him. The original and the best Kiss guitarist period.
El mejor e inigualable Ace Frehley, como el ningún otro guitarrista de KISS, Spaceman sólo hay uno Ace Frehley. You're the Best lead guitar 🎶 🇺🇸 👍 ✨️ 👍👍👏👏
Just Like David Gilmour. Ace Frehley's solo's are every bit as important of the song as the song it self. And many times over are the best part of the song. Kiss could have been named Chicks & Dicks, because that's about 90% of what they have ever wrote their songs about. But Ace Frehley always played awesome guitar solo's and made cheesy lyrical songs worth listening to.
This man releases all of his pain through his guitar, It comes from his soul man you can feel the raw emotion he is incredible and I respect and admire him much more then the shredders tapping and shredding does not impress me. There's just something about Ace that I can't explain.
ghostbear200123 All of the above is true!!!!! Kiss was nothing without Ace, just 2 businessmen surrounded by great musicians on the lead guitar and drums
Ace u paved the way for many guitar players around the world ! That in itself is huge influence within itself. We are indebted to you, Again much love and continued success !
"ACE FREHLEY!!! Lead Guitar!" can learn so much from all of these examples about playing awesome! guitar that can be applied to pretty much any style of music
I also think that the "Strange Ways" solo is a big omission in this list. And to me, the "Shock Me" solo is the one that best summarizes Ace's ultra-distinctive style.
Thanks for the selection of Ace's soli. I noticed the collaboration between Anton Fig on the solo album, but also on Dynasty and Unmasked and later on in his solo career. Not to forget Eddie Cramer, producing some of the best albums where Ace seems more inspired too.
we think♠needs a newer, more modern, more updated, non-smoking, non-firing, better looking gitar than that old fashioned looking one he been using for 40yrs.& in any brand name.
Gotta love a great Ace Frehley solo. So many, but I have to say the Firehouse solo was always one of my favorites. I think that solo would make a great tutorial on how a good solo should be done.
Strange Ways...top three at least. Also loved Goin Blind, Let Me Go Rock and Roll, and Makin Love. Learned all my early licks from Ace's solos and riffs.
I think his "Got To Choose" solo is my favorite, keeping the listener unsure of what the girl will decide, going up the scale slowly and building to the climax at the end. Ace had a great ear for creating solos that told a story, not just playing licks for the sake of playing them.
I agree 100 %. The Got to Choose solo has a lot of feeling and style IMO. It is in the top 5 KISS songs, I love it. Ace is the man, he has his own style, yeah he had his problems, but who doesn't?
Whoa, I thought I'd be going out on a limb to say that Got to Choose is my pick for favorite, that solo encapsulates what the song is about! Heart swinging on a wire!
been a fan since Paul Lind Halloween show/ my first two albums of my life were kiss alive 2 and double platinum. My kudos off to Ace to being my first guitar hero ! Hammer ons and Pull offs before Eddy Van Halen. Much love my bro. Now 49 Ace the biggest influence in my musical career. Which still continues to evolve to this day. Hope U c this message. Long time fan David Tucson,Az.
He's not afraid of the fretboard. Up and down, up and down, but always in control. Incredible sense of melody. He learned from the greats of NYC and London if you ask me.
Part of the problem is you had to of grown up listening in that period. Ace sounds like Ace, when you play Ace's music he doesn't sound like anyone else. I didn't appreciate Ace really till he did his KISS solo album, he has his own sound, his own vocals. It's like everyone that grew up listening to Eddie, they will all say Eddie is god on guitar and he is, but then came Steve Vai, and everyone is WOW a new god in town. Ace is ACE .. he doesn't sound like anyone else, you can beat up his guitar playing all you want but his sound is his and I'm glad that's why I buy his music. It's ACE.... Thanks for all the Memories Ace !!!
Glad you chose the studio version of the 100,000 Years. That little two-part harmony at the beginning of the solo really sets the tone for all that is to come. A lot of people talk about the Alive! version, but without that harmony, it's just not the same.
Good list. I personally would have had strange ways and parasite both on there before Two sides of the coing and R&R All Night. But thats the cool thing with music its subjective and we all have our own little things that resonate better with us. You had some stuff on there I never would have thought of but after hearing it I agree like Love her All I can. I forgot how good that solo was
I watched this to see the Makin' love solo that has been written up a few times, I think even Dimebag claimed it as Ace's best, and I didn't see it. Time to get the vinyl out, great video nevertheless.
I took so much flack in school for saying he was my favorite guitarist, I'm glad that his body of work stands the test of time. Some of these songs I haven't heard for years, and he sounds better than I remember. I agree that there are tons of guitarists now and in the past that were better technically, but Ace has such great guitar instinct, and phrasing, that in my opinion trumps the technical aspects. Ace was the wind beneath Kiss's wings. Without him they would never have taken off....
No doubt, I completely agree. In the 70's, Strange Ways was one of my favorite KISS songs (along with Parasite, another Ace song), and Ace's best solo IMO. Not just because of it's disjointed nature, but that KILLER saturated sound, like the amp is about to blow up, but he keeps it under control. Ace wasn't/isn't on the same level with his idol, Jimi Hendrix, but the solo on Strange Ways was one of the more Hendrix-inspired ones he came up with.
Yep, very few shredders can lay down a memorable solo, they have the speed and chops, but cannot weave licks, melody and tone/timing, it's just all bullshit mostly. Ace combined an AWESOME lLes Paul rock sound with highly interesting playing.
That's what I've always liked about Ace's solos - so simple, and yet so powerful. What stands out most about those early Kiss albums? Ace's solos, of course.
Ace Frehley "space man" was always the coolest one in the band,as a whole, they were all cool looking, but Ace was always my favorite.I spent alot of times as a kid in front of a mirror and tennis racket trying to move like him, while listening to kiss.Making Love was my favorite solo on the rock n roll over LP.
Hands down theres ace and then everybody else, ace frehley had a sound that is just so raw,his lead is captivating, had a story, idk, for me there was rock but then hear comes the spaceman and BAM I just love everything he does,an yup yup I had to get a guitar,he is ,was, always will be a super huge part of my teenage years, picking me up when I needed, pumping me up,just there, always and thank you so much ace,# 1
I remember to listen the Alive! album in cassette, and the tape rip off because of rewinding it to checkout the solos. Ace is unique, and the one and only space man that take us on a trip with his music.
Shock me Kiss Alive II. The best solo in the history of guitar solos. We got a little surprise for you tonight. we're gonna turn the microphone over to Ace Frehley SHOCK ME ! That's the best out of the 2 versions as well.
Rock n Roll all night’s solo was amazing, I don’t know why it cut from the original recording. Ace didn’t even realize it was removed until 40 something years later.
@@robertkemp6937 He has his own unique style. Kind of a controlled chaos. But hes a great guitarist. Watch Deuce from the Brooklyn bridge. It's as good as Alive

Ace doing the two handed tapping style solo around 10:28. Before Van Halen I came out since Alive II was released on October 14, 1977 (which of course means Ace played it even sooner than that)

Either way, Ace is pretty horrible at it, even though it is one of the easiest technique to master. He can only decend, and can only do one tap, with one pull at a time. Ace Frehley is the reason why I wanted to play guitar all those many years ago, and did start playing. His sound is pure! No licks, and tricks or hammering like Eddie Van Halen which I’m not putting him down because he’s a great guitarist. But Ace didn’t have to do all of that. That’s why I like his playing so much!
People talk about how his playing deteriorated towards the end which may be true in regards to live stuff; however, in the studio some of his best stuff were on the last few albums he did so I am not sure how much I'd agree with that
riffy but melodic I always thought, ok maybe he's not as fast as EVH (RIP), but his solos were always tasteful, well thought out, fit the song perfectly, and you could whistle them! years later I read him say virtually the same thing about his own work. and def the coolest looking guitarist of all time. it's easier to throw a nice chord progression together and write a song, than it is to write a solo that does what his do, they have a beginning middle and end, and every note makes sense.

zeb doz Ace was the one who fired me up as well. Yeah his technique was basic, but he knew how to use it to create melodic solos.
I hear ya man, Same age and all, he was my first guitar hero!!
I have to say the same....✌👽
Same here. I always got put to Gene's spot cause I could sing..Ace was the influence. Without a doubt.

Ace had this wonderful rawness in his technique. A true one of a kind player!
One just has to admit, that ACE just looks way too cool.
And his voice is cool too.
I have always loved the solo for Save Your Love. There's so much emotion to it.
Yup it kicks
There's so many great leads in every song he does. Not too much not too little Just what you expect

His BEST
I wish we can hear Ace's deleted solos from The Elder.
What an era growing up in the 70s and 80s There was a magic about it
Dark Light, a awesome Ace song that was a hidden gem on The Elder.
It wasn't "hidden" .. it right there in plain view, Track 6 on a shitty album.
its the best song on the album ("I" is the only other good song)
I completely agree ! The best song of the album. HE was the gem of Kiss ! No doubt about that !
Always loved the solo on Strange Ways. It was part of what made KISS awesome.
Ace is the sound of Kiss.🎸
Ace is Kiss period ,

Johnny Rotundo Ace was my fav back them too. that style the look Space Ace
Second Solo in Black Diamond knocks me out. His best i think.
