What is the distance you need from the tip of the threads to the VERY back of the collar? I am not making a clone but I have an 18" SPR and I want to put the AEM5 on it....but I want to make sure I put a handguard that allows enough room. Thank you so much.

does the barrel need to be turned/profiled a certain way to force the collar to sit at a specific length, like an M27 bayonet lug? Or does it just go anywhere so long as it's the correct girth and you just set screw it in place?
If you ever have carbon problems like that again, throw the suppressor in an ultrasonic cleaner with WD-40. Works quite well for easily getting rid of your carbon problems
My handguard is exactly 8" long and my barrel is exactly 10" long. I would probably have to get a custom made collar, but is the 2" of barrel past the handguard enough for an AEM4 or AEM5 to recess without hitting the handguard?
So, I have a Centurion 18" mk12 barrel (ops inc cut) and was wondering if it matters which supressor collar is used. I can't really find any info on whether I should do a short or long collar or if it even matters. Any info would be appreciated.
I think there is like: this gun should use the "long" collar and this style should use the "short" collar. But, functionality, they should be the same. It was never important to me. I just think the long mk12 collar looks better floating in the middle of nowhere on the barrel. I've had both the long and short collar on the same barrel and they worked fine. If you got your barrel from Centurion and your collar from AE then it's in spec and well made.
Its not dimpled. I just cranked the screw down and staked the threads with a punch. Idk wait threads, M6x24? Maybe bigger? Spikes didn't know and it was bigger than the AEM set screw
If I have an Mk12 profile DPMS barrel on a separate gun and want to run my AEM5 (which is still in ATF jail) are there specific measurements somewhere that tells me how far down the barrel the collar should be placed for proper lockup? I actually have an MK12 Clone direct from PRI so I could technically use it as a reference but I do not have a caliper to get down to the nitty gritty dimensions like you have. Im wondering if I add that collar (assuming it just set screws onto the barrel) if its going to affect the accuracy of that barrel. Its a tack driver as it stands with a surefire break and FA556-212 suppressor on it.
Nevermind. I just realized there is a small step just before the gas block where it butts up agains. However, my new 15" rail hides it by about 1/2" : ( so not sure what Ill do.

So you apparently had to change the stock collar too. If I have to change collar too it doesn't exactly work stock. See what I mean? I'm just surprised you had to change the collar as well, so it is a sorta in my book. Hence why I bothered asking.
@AldoSchmedack sorry, I haven't watched the video in a while. The M4 style collar reflexes back over the M203 cut out. That cut out is too narrow to use a stock collar. If the barrel was thick enough, you could use a stock collar. But not on an M4 profile.
I ask because I have a DD S2W 18" heavy barrel and apparently it was machined wrong either deliberately (to avoid liability) or accidentally (messed up). The collar sits ahead 1.000" too far and I am gonna have to have a custom collar made for it. Was thinking I could try other collars but doubt I am gonna get that to work. The barrel bumps out at wrong spot that partial bit at wrong spot. Trying to figure out a fix but doubt it will work. And I don't want to mess with the barrel because it is already built, and is finished special for corrosion resistance. I am tempted to try a flash hider that Otter Creek makes vs the brake that Allen makes which I have already.
It is working good. I don't have a ton of 556 right now so I've been using my AKs. Once I get some I need to sight in the scope on this guy. As long as you have someone profile the barrel correctly it should work good.

The AEM4 is designed to fit on an M4 barrel with the specific M4 collar. It will not fit on a Mk12 barrel. The AEM2,3,4 are all setup for the M4 and the M4 specific collar.
I want to run my AEM5 on a 12.5" barrel. I have the mk12 collar but not the m4 collar. If I fill the gap between my collar and gas block with 2" long pvc pipe (so it extends my collar and backs it against my gas block) I get 8.5 turns on my AEM5 Suppressor. Do you think that will work?
You can use an M203-2003 launcher using the Knight RAS rail, allowing you to use a collar that blocks the M203 barrel relief.
I picked up an AEM 4 to run on a 12.5 with grenade launcher did not know the spike parts worked so well

How would you go about mounting one of these brakes on a 20” M16A2 barrel with a FSB? Would it just go on or would the barrel need to be reprofiled?
I have no idea. You should assume that it needs machine work. The brake would go on fine. But the collar needs fit.

It is working good. I don't have a ton of 556 right now so I've been using my AKs. Once I get some I need to sight in the scope on this guy. As long as you have someone profile the barrel correctly it should work good.

what is the difference between the AEM 4 and the AEM 5?
The AEM4 is designed to fit on an M4 barrel with the specific M4 collar. It will not fit on a Mk12 barrel. The AEM2,3,4 are all setup for the M4 and the M4 specific collar.
