    Jay Robinson's tribute was so touching, especially in 1971, when actors were hardly frank about substance-abuse problems. Bette was a gemstone for writing that letter---these are the thousands of "little" things about her, her biographers always forget to include in their books! They always "dish" ad nauseum about "Joan vs. Bette," the topic of which she must have gotten sick of hearing about sometimes but had the class not to complain. A great lady as well as the greatest actress!

    The part of Jay Robinson made my heart ache. He was so humble in this and appreciative of her love and support. So sad that he was watching The Robe in prison, but she helped him make a comeback in Bunny O'Hare.

    I ADORE they way she stands, hands on hips, legs firmly planted in that wide stance: so real, non-actressy, and refreshing ....class, courage, brains and talent in Hollywood of carbon copies, phony poses and imitation. Brava, Bette!

    This program aired in 1972. Bette's daughter BD Hyman is never mentioned or alluded to. This was years before the publication of "My Mother's Keeper" in 1985. During this time, and later, Bette was supporting BD and Jeremy Hyman financially and keeping their Ashdown farm running. There is no mention of her son in law or her grandchildren. There are also no close friends in this program. Sad. Bobby, her sister, and Bette had a difficult relationship. Bobby had severe emotional and mental health issues that plagued her all her life. She was not as strong as Bette and could not assert herself. She lived in Bette's shadow all of her life. Many of Bette's co-workers in the industry showed up for her. Bette was polite and a trouper and went through the motions with this show. However, there seems to be an undercurrent of sadness about her.

    Yes that's true. When Joan Crawford dropped out of the film presumably due to health issues Bette personally lobbied Olivia de Havilland to take the part. Olivia was hesitant at first because her role was the "heavy" but relented due to Bette. They were both great in Hush..Hush Sweet Charlotte.

    At 1:50 does anyone else have these words pop in to their mind when Jay Robinson walks out: "Doctor Shrinker, Doctor Shrinker, he's a madman with an evil mind. Doctor Shrinker, Doctor Shrinker, he's as crazy as you'll ever find."

    Lol! When Barbara just grabbed Bette's cigarette! That was so unexpected I felt a little uncomfortable after that. Although she did a really good job on impersonating her!

    I wish they would give the date of the show in order to place it in context. So many of those stars were still alive then but still young enough to appear on camera.

    Bette's reaction (i.e. boredom at times) was hilarious! I don't understand why they had Bette sit where she did, though...Everyone ended up sitting on the chesterfield arm...? I guess they didn't want the guests to get too comfortable but it was also right on top of Bette so she may have not liked that tight squeeze in her personal space.

  • @storybellz
    @storybellz 12 лет назад

    Yes, they also made Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte. But, I think the reason it was not mentioned is that Olivia was referring to the fact that it took 3 pictures before they became friends. So, presumably, by the time they did Hush... they were already friends.

    I don’t think she liked having her cigarette ripped from her hands, and not replaced; she watches as the host deposits into the ash tray the new cigarette the imitator brought with her. lol

    I agree the set was a joke and not befitting an actress of Davis's standing. The BBC did it (this is your life programme series) with far more class. Not sure what year this is but I guess early 70's - no show from Joan Crawford or any of the big names.

    @4MaryAnna well then what is the whole point of spreading lies about a subject? isn't it better to just say the truth? If you need fantasy, go buy one of Miss Davis dvds okay. ")
