This footage is priceless. what a revelation to see Bette Davis and her sister together.
So straightforward, authentic, a great star! Let's think about today's phony, incompetent actors...😢
Bette Davis was one of the greatest actresses. She was so open and honest in her interviews. There was nothing fake about her. She truly loved acting. As she always mentioned----she fought for good movie roles, the amount of money came later.....she was one of a kind.
Absolutely! I agree with you, she was the best. What I like about her the most is that she wasn't full of herself even tho she had a right for being such incredible actress. It's sad that Bette was betrayed by her own daughter when she wrote that book. B.D broke Bette's heart so much that Bette never spoke to her ever again.
She was a goddess, she still is...
She was so real! Not 1 fake thing about her. How refreshing when you see what so called talent we have today
They don't make them like that any more.
Foxy ur so Rite
I love it, when the host say to her, you're the star, you're the super star she respond "thank you" of course she is! Lol
“You’re Beyoncé” 😂
If Joan Crawford arrived I'm sure it would've been the end of the show.
I recall seeing this when it first aired - Better Davis was THE STAR no question about it! Incidentally, it's worth noting that there was another legend in that room (in the beginning of the show). The great fashion designer of countless Hollywood films - Edith Head. Miss Head had been Oscar nominated a jaw-dropping thirty-five times over her very long career - eight times a winner. One of her Oscar wins came from one of Bette's best pictures - "All About Eve," from 1950. It's not surprising that Bette would want to work with her again. Cheers and thanks for the great post!
The set was so awkward. Here, have a seat on half of this yellow chair (the other half is for your coat and purse) and we'll have your friends and family squat on a built-in laminate end table....!
LOL exactly!
Bette liked it the hard way.
Hahaha! This made me LOL. Seriously.. the idiot host like "ohh yes, just sit right here."
So cheap. And also so rushed, always, never allowing the distinguished guests enough time to say their piece. Who the hell produced this series?
very odd wasn't it?
I love Olivia de Havilland's voice
Me too...it was very soothing.
I love Bette Davis so so so much!!! Isn't she adorable😩💓
When I first saw Now, Voyager.....and saw Paul Henreid I had such a crush on him. I thought he was so handsome and loved his accent...such a great movie!!!
YES SIR.
the only person she really showed any emotion towards was Victor Buono...
When I see her face here, I find it almost unbelievable that she played all those great roles such as Regina Giddons, Queen Elizabeth I, Margo Channing et al: what a bloody GENIUS was Miss Bette Davis
She shot out of her chair when Victor came on stage
Pardon my French. But ain't nobody got anything on Bette Davis. Truly the Queen of Hollywood.
"Pardon my French" is a grandpa-ism for when he uses a swear word.
Wow I love this reunion so much! It’s almost impossible to think they actually did this! My most favourite is when Paul Henreid came and with his accent 🥰😍
Love Bette Davis never will get her likes again ,
Bette Davis was the best actress that Holywood ever exposed us to. Such amazing talent and most intelligent which makes her so beautiful.
Muchas gracias for posting this clip in it's complete form. The best part for me is when Victor Bouno comes out.
I bet that at least one old lady in the audience was whisked back in time to being a young girl again, buying movie star magazines with Bette Davis on the cover. 🥰
I enjoyed this immensely. Thank you. Bette didn’t like doing this, she hated it but went on with it anyway. A trooper. I love her she’s so genuine. Olivia looked like an angel in here. Well, Bette said she looked marvelous. 💖
Love the scene w Paul and the 2ciggarettes stands the test of time classic!
It's interesting that Bette's sister doesn't share her accent at all.
Bette no doubt took elocution lessons early on.
What type of "accent"?
Damn!! She was total class..won't see this again folks....
Rest In Peace, Bette and Olivia. Both of them were such amazing actresses.
This show should have been 1 hour, not one half hour...too rushed!
Paul Henreid seems like a genuinely fun loving person
He directed her in dead Ringer
She doesn't look too happy to be there
As a fellow Aries, I can attest to us not being great lovers of spontaneity, unless it's of our own making. Impulsive, yes, spontaneous...seldom.
Definitely not. Edith Head looked pretty ticked off too.
Can’t say I blame her
She’s always said she’s socially awkward when in groups lol
She looks like she always had 😂I adore her and believe this would be her happy❤
Wyler was the great love of Bette's life, so moving he'd come to this 💟
I remember this from when it first ran. And I will always remember how at minute 16 when Paul Heinreid is going to share a cigarette with Bette, she has to take a big drag from hers first. "Feud" said she smoked up to 100 cigarettes a day.
The Paul Henreid bit was charming.
12:35 Olivia 💖💖💖
I love all of Bette's movies. When I was a kid my mom and I watched all the movies with Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Olivia DeHavilland, etc. I still watch them if I can find a channel who still shows then. Bette does seem somewhat standoffish, but that's just her personality!!!
I think she was very polite despite the fact that their production meeting was suddenly interrupted by Ralph Edwards. She even made space for Edwards in the couch she was sitting on.
I love the old movies. I am glad we still have them. There was so much talent. A good movie could make a great Friday Night.
This is SUCH a treat!!
I like that Bette was pissed that work was interrupted by Ralph. And all through the show, it seems that she wishes she was back at work.
Could be -- although I've seen interviews where she said that as an old-school New Englander, she wasn't really demonstrative around most people in her personal life; she wasn't a big hugger or kisser, and she didn't show her feelings a lot. So maybe she's just being her usual reserved self here -- although she does seem to let her guard down a little for Olivia Olivia de Havilland.
What I find so amazing is that Oliva De Havilland is STILL alive at 102...and going strong by all accounts. Her interviews in her 90s show her strong and clear, amazing!
"I WHOLE HEARTEDLY AGREE WITH YOUR COMMENT THAT IS MOST CERTAINLY "AMAZING" THAT THE LOVELY#OLIVIA#De#HAVILLAND, IS STILL ALIVE, "AND" WELL.....AT 102....." ..AND.....FOR THIS I AM VERY GRATEFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!! #2018.....
Still beautiful too.
VR Show kyg
That's shocking to me. I had to look it up because I thought you were mistaken lol
To be fair, the 90s was almost 30 years ago so that's like saying Bob Hope was healthy and robust in the 60s. Of course he was it was a million years ago! However it truly is beautiful she's still alive.
I love Bette Davis
The thing I love most is how irritated Bette seems with Ralph when he first walks into the room.
And Edith Head sat there like "really bitch!?"
Her expression and the way she sat there holding those sketches killed me 😂😂😂
She was ready to light his ass up! Lol
This is pretty lame considering it's Bette Davis. Cheesy set, none of her children included, no mention of the Hollywood Canteen from WW2 and some of these people she barely had contact with, etc. And That is Her Life? Hardly-
"MY SENTIMENTS..EXACTLY". #????????????
Yeah -- an understudy, an old film editor whom shed never even met .. . I wonder why they couldn't or wouldn't rustle up any other family members, childhood friends or family acquaintances, early acting teachers and mentors, etc. . . . and she was very gracious in her appreciation of that Bette Davis imitator, but I thought she was horrible and insulting. (And yes, I agree -- someone from the Canteen days would have been wonderful to include.)
She was a very gracious star and very professional.
She doesn't like to hug people too much
I noticed that too, I wonder why she was like that. She didn't even hug her sister.
It was improper for ladies to do that back then
Thoroughly enjoyed...ty for posting.
Bette Davis was embarrassed by her sister.
I thought the same thing. She seemed to resent her being there. That's the vibe I got anyway.
I’m so happy I ran across this video, it made me smile.
That hairstyle makes Olivia de Havilland look like something from Star Trek!
I was thinking the same thing !
I could not stand Lesley Gore ! Know wonder he left her at that party !!!
Sheldon Helms
I think Olivia looks absolutely gorgeous.
@@sammyjo2852 ...She does look lovely.
That hair is FABULOUS!; just like she is!!
I first watched this on AMC in 1992 when AMC still aired classic films. It's very good to see this once again.
I enjoyed this! I've see all her movies and today I am still watching them. They are timeless and so is she. God rest her soul.
Nostalgia overload and how wonderful, deep breath cos so many are gone from the big screen and my family and friends. I so enjoyed this episode of This Is Your Life! Pain and sadness truly does make us grow strong if we can survive it.
regards
Hayden a survivor.
She looked really lovely here. Love those black gloves.
I think Edith Head sounded like a lovely person; she was famous for cooking authentic Mexican food.
Bette seemed genuinely moved--especially by the cast of friends who turned out for the occasion. Their enduring admiration for one another demonstrated a personal glimpse of Bette Davis that's usually overshadowed by her ferocious drive, artistic passion, and legend.
--"She did it the hard way...."
Betty....a real actress. No diva she. RIP
the impression was so good!!! and what amazing words she wrote about the former drug addict..sweet of her
...I don't think Bette was too keen having her cigarette taken away like that.
@@fool4singing She was pissed. I noticed.
A great artist is honored.
Oh gosh this is heaven to watch ❤️🥰
Hi Red glad you like it 👌
Is Olivia H the only person from this episode still living?
Bob Wagner is still here
@Linda Kilbride In the room with Bette and Edith Head.
Three years since you commented and she is still alive.
Olivia died 7/26/2020
@@cindybrown7181 and at the grand age of 104. What a long and elustrious life. She had seen alot of them come and go in that span of time. Would have loved to had just been able to sit with her for a couple hours over coffee and hear a few stories that made the history books in which she lived and was a part of.
(20:16)...Ralph Edwards put guest Jay Robinson's business on FULL BLAST. 😂😅🤣😅😂😅🤣😅😂. Bette was like...Oh REALLY Bitch, REALLYYYYY!?!?
Came across a mention of the occasion in Robert Wagner's memoir, _Pieces of My Heart._
Wagner recounts how she was fuming after the show, for having been tricked into being its subject. According to Wagner, she claimed never to have met Jay Robinson nor written the letter that he read on the show! Seems Robinson was the only person who took part in the event who didn't attend the after-show get-together at the Bel-Air Hotel, across the road from the TV studio, a possible indicator that there was indeed some substance to Miss Davis's claim. If you look back over the segment, it looks pretty obvious that she was somewhat non-responsive to the man.
The after-party was actually at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood (on Hollywood Blvd) not in Bel-Air which was miles from the studio. Also, I read that Davis was ok with doing the show because of how nIce Ralph was to her mother when she was the subject on This Is Your Life (she considered her appearance payback)
Eerie that Olivia is the only living person nowadays in that episode.
Danke Bette Davis We Love You Love Seeing Bette w Olivia Lovely Lovely Ladies Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte My Favorite MissCSA
How can you misspell Bette Davis' name in the title?
Lava1964.
Practice my dear, practice.
Martha Richert ❤️😂❤️
First time seeing this. Great to see all the amazing talents she worked with.
Davis always regarded William Wyler as the best and most talented director that she worked with; he helmed Jezebel, her second Oscar; The Little Foxes and The Letter. Davis said: If Willie had asked me to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge, I would have done it.
Love Bette Davis x
Multi-faceted character heavy weight actress. Stunning. It made me cry so much the way her characters hid their emotions to other characters in her films that didn't have a clue how intensely her character loved them, before she got older and sexist Hollywood type cast her wrongly as villains that were not layered or complex.
grand an logical women to the end .she did her way.
Me and a friend used to joke about Bette Davis and Crawford.I said Crawford was a sl*g who slept herself to the top. He was not in agreement. We are no longer friends. My mum and older sisters had the pleasure of seeing Ms Davis in her one woman show in the UK. I wish I could have seen it.
I'd be glad at the moment for a cigarette for sure all that attention & focus when she had other plans than this! ✨️So glad to see this love her, overwhelmed bless her heart love her willingness to be scary and ugly on screen back then huge. Whatta dame 🤗✨️🌟
She was a great actress!!! I wish she more starring roles in the mid 60s and 70s. All she got were crap roles towards the end so sad. she is Icon!!!
Tyler Hastings
She got a lot of TV work in the end, and much of it was pretty decent.
THE QUALITY OF THIS VIDEO IS FABULOUS. I HAVE THESE EPISODES FROM VHS & THEY DON'T TRANSFER VERY WELL AT ALL. HOW DID YOU MAKE THIS VIDEO?
I think Bette looks sexy at this point in her life 🤔
and olivia dehavilland is still alive as of Jan 2, 218 I believe
And as of February 15, 2019!
@@624radicalham ..AND as of July 7th, 2020. MY birthday is on July 9th by the way. LOL. Olivia is a fellow Cancer like myself. Actually, I believe the longest living man in the world was a Cancer as well.
She died 7/26/2020.
I especially liked the moment with William Wyler. IMO, she did her best pictures with him. While almost all of Davis’s performances were great, she had a tendency to go over the top. Wyler didn’t allow it. He made sure that she stayed true to the character, and her performances with him were unbeatable.
If that was an impromptu surprise for her, then why didn’t anyone wonder why there was a camera crew in the room with them
Olivias hairstyle is awful
What a waste of an amazing opportunity, it should've been at least twice as long. There must have been a whole slew of Hollywood stars that could have been wheeled out for this and where were her children?
Really no one from her early life, either -- neighbors, friends of the family, other relatives., A little surprising they found her understudy and even an old film editor whom she'd never met, while so few people who'd actually been close to her were there.
That chandelier candlier at 2:45 is everything 😍😃
Good golly! As of the date that I am typing this which is July 7th, 2020 at 9:45am in Toronto, Olivia De Havilland is 104 years old and STILL alive!!
Do you know the year this show was made? By the way I find it amazing that someone from Gone with the wind is still alive!
Isn't that fabulous! I've been watching all her movies and interviews the last few months (I have been a fan for years).
@@angelzap100 It makes sense, rather Oliva de Havilland than Oliva Newton John !
How do you assess her now after the recent immersion? What do you think of her as a human being? I recall that she and her sister were not on the best of terms.
Perhaps you don't pay any attention to the gossip and enjoy her acting.
She died yesterday, 7/26/2020.
@@cindybrown7181 😥
18:28 Barbara Heller imitating Joan Crawford's voice is simply priceless
A bit strange this ..................
Surely some one like Bette who's career spanned over 50 years at this point must of known a hell of alot of stars and people and all she had was those lot come on stage to greet her , was this show on a tight budget 😯😯😯
Where was her daughter ????
Wyler’s one of the great “Golden Age” directors, and Miss De Haviland another one of it’s great actresses and stars! Paul Henried very distinguished actor who went on to direct dozens of TV shows. No answer (or interest) for her daughter, but much prestige and talent present that night.
PS By this point she’d also outlived many of the stars she’d worked with such as Bogart, Howard and Errol Flynn.
The 1970s color schemes in the furniture and clothes were atrocious!
Now Voyager cigarettes were a character. They're ridiculous and part of the story
quite a turnout of big names
"I..KNOW.." #WTH?????????????
Lol!
She was a real trooper ! And I say that the way Betty Davis would say it!
Trooper? Betty? I love it, so innocent.
I was born this year .I can't believe I was live at this time in so excited.
They really missed a trick not getting Joan Crawford lol.
Can you imagine?!? What a hoot that would have been...
callum robertson I just spat out my martini at the image your comment conjured up! 😂🍸
JOAN would have never gone.
Muzik Queen
So Joan Crawford was a FALSE LEGEND? They were both drama queens and Hollywood divas, but Crawford was generally nicer to people (not necessarily to her kids, though) and had a lot more friends than Davis. Davis was a better actress though IMO.
bduhe219
Yeah, why would anyone expect her to? They were never friends and didn't work together except in that one movie.
I find watching these American versions of This is your life so cringe worthy.
I actually said the exact same thing to myself when I watched this tonight. I am a huge old-movie buff so I watched it all the way through anyway.
Edith Head's "mannerisms" after flowers were handed to Ms. Davis seemed like she was disappointed that it was not her and was playing it off.
Absolutelty the best. May she rip.
Huh? The book was "This n That."
None! "This 'n' That" came out in 1987, she died in 1989. She even promote it worldwide (at least in France: ruclips.net/video/IJXlDdXLMY4/видео.html). I don't know who wrote that but it is a huge mistake...
10:35 stop staring at herrrr he’s making her so uncomfortable, what is wrong with him??? No wonder she’s so annoyed the whole way through...
Bette is a great actress. I get why Davis had to be tough and aggressive in a dog eat dog business. Men do it everyday nobody blinks an eye. Demanding perfection from all. But, to see her here amongst friends and family her attitude was deplorable. Was she scolding her sister? It certainly looked like it. Davis wasn’t warm towards anyone. Davis made Olivia look foolish, Olivia was so happy to see Bette, Bette couldn’t care less. Bette was standoffish. People shouldn’t tolerate that behavior I don’t care how big a star you are
Imho really she may have been overwhelmed and joking w/her sister to vent for a second for fun
I wouldn't want to piss her of no noo
All about Eve,Whatever happened to baby Jane,The Nanny are my favourites of her.A true Lady is Bette Davis.
Ladies and gentlemen, last but not the least, please welcome Joan Crawford!!!
Omg I loved this! Thank you!
It's odd how smoking was such a thing in those days...that has certainly changed.
Loved her hair, loved her black gloves, but most of all we were treated to some of her smoking right on the show. Quite the expert: the corners of her mouth sort of turn down as she blows out strongly; she reinhales some smoke through her nose. Her imitator nailed the smoking too. Then, the reenactment of the final scene from Now Voyager with Paul -- what a treat!
Unfortunately I smoked 3 packs a day for 13 years. I quit 36 years ago when I had my son. I told him that he saved my life. My brother was a heavy smoker and never quit though I begged him to. He died of cancer at only 60.
@@angelzap100 I'm glad that you quit & are still with us. I smoked...never heavily unless social drinking, for about 28 years until I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Renal Carcinoma in 2018. The Cancer was discovered quite accidentally, while undergoing tests for another procedure. I had a slight relapse, but haven't smoked in about 2 years.
I still miss it sometimes, but not enough to start back. With smoking, you can never be quite certain, but it's almost always the Cancer culprit-no matter where it's found.
@@user-mj8nf2vp7q Thank you love. Stay well. 😊
@@angelhairlaser You too!
