      I don't think Bette Davis was that good.
      But I think it's partly because they made her use that Transatlantic accent instead of just using a natural voice like when she first started out.
      Her features are not very pretty but she was a decent actress.
      I can still remember when she was 80 on the Johnny Carson show and she actually believed that she might make another woman jealous.😂😂😂😂

      She was 73 when this movie was made. Good genes, some people just were lucky. Both my sister and older brother got their Grandfather's and his eldest daughter's, (our Mom's) genes. Myself, my younger brother and sister didn't get them, we're in awful shape and we did nothing different. We aren't all as fortunate as some are.

I have not watched one of her films that I can say I did not like, they all stand out no matter how old they are. I am not from the USA so not biased. First time seeing this movie. In my opinion, it’s one of her best performances. I remember the first movie I ever watched with Bette Davis. I don’t know how old I was, but the movie was on TV. I didn’t understand why it didn’t have colors in it. I was very young and I don’t remember very much about those years. But the movie affected me so emotionally and I think that’s why I remember it. It was “Whatever Happened To Baby Jane”. My mom was watching it, that’s how I came across it. I didn’t understand the real difference between a movie & real life. But this is the movie that I remember as being the first movie I ever watched. Over the years I have discovered why I react to certain things in certain ways. My memory of watching it and actually crying at some point, were very real to me. I hated that “Old Lady” and my heart was so sad for her sister in the wheelchair. I didn’t dare let my mom see that I was upset and especially I couldn’t let her see me cry.
    📌 Years later, through many years of counseling, I was told that the movie affected me as it had because I had a “kinship” with the Crawford character. I was physically and emotionally abused by my mom. I’m ok now. But I wanted to share that because of how my opinion and feelings towards Bette Davis (still didn’t know that was her actual name). I was very young.
    As I grew up & matured, of course I realized that she was only acting, her name wasn’t Jane, but I was still confused about her age. I had seen her being interviewed and she looked so much younger than in the movie 🤦🏻‍♀️. I still hadn’t matured enough to even “like” her and I refused to watch any other movies she was in (I still hadn’t dealt with my issues at that point). However once I started to heal, and started to actually watch other movies with her (if they were on TV by chance, I let myself enjoy her talent. But I started to respect her as not only an actress, but as a woman who stood up for herself and didn’t take 💩 from anyone, especially the movie studios that made the poor choice of going up against her. I learned that about her from her talk show interviews. I was so impressed by her ability of “take me or leave me! There are others who would love to have me in their movies”. I never thought that she was being egotistical. I thought that she knew her worth, no more. No less. And she wasn’t about to let anyone else decide what she was worth. I think she was one of the best actresses in the history of movies.
    PS: Crawford deserved to be treated that way in real life. If she could dish it out….

    ENCANTADORA PELÍCULA, MOSTRANDO LO IMPORTANTE QUE ES LA FAMILIA, Y LA UNIDAD, POR ENCIMA DE LAS DIFERENCIAS Y DE LAS TRANCAS DEL PASADO, NO DEJEN DE VERLA, TAMBIÉN LA ACTUACIÓN DE ESTA ACTRIS, BETTY DAVIS.

    I’ve watched this movie but don’t remember it was that long as indicated 3 hours!! Was it so? I loved it. It was pretty nice and reflected a real slice of life.

    • @vintageappliguy
      @vintageappliguy 11 месяцев назад

      It wasn't originally shown on TV in one three hour viewing, it was originally shown in one hour installments over the course of three nights so that is why you probably do not remember it to be as long as it really is!

    • @Lightsngear
      @Lightsngear 9 месяцев назад

      @@vintageappliguy it was shown over a TWO night period. Both airings in a TWO hour time slot!

      As lightsngear said, it was shown over TWO nights on TV in a 2 hour time slot. I know because I watched it back in 1981. All the commercials took up a half hour each night which is what drew it out to 2 hours both nights it was shown.

    • @retroguy9494

      Well, that's because of all the 'baggage' in her family. Everyone (except perhaps Grover) had some kind of axe to grind. Since Elizabeth was a senior member of the family (and technically became it's matriarch after her older brother George died) they all blamed her in some way.

    This is a 3 hour movie. Much of the acting is wooden; it's often as cloying as the worst of the Hallmark tear-jerkers; but I watched it till the end - just for Bette Davis. Of course this is why they put her in it.
