IMO, when we go into recession, tech stocks like Tesla and defense will do good as a sector considering what's going on in the world but always do your own research, or speak to a valid advisor before investing your money
Agreed, I've always delegated my excesses to a professional, ever since suffering major portfolio steep-down amid rona-outbreak in late 2019. As of today, I'm semi-retired with barely 25% short of my $1m retirement goal after subsequent investments, and only work 7.5 hours a week.

Even the most superficial analysis during Tesla's stock price retreat in Q4 2022 and January 2023 would have easily revealed:
- the fundamentals of the company, its balance sheet, its growth, its IP, were intact. Nothing fundamental was driving the retreat.
- Elon was very publicly selling enormous quantities of Tesla stock to buy Twitter.
So: the underlying value of the company was sound. As soon as Elon stopped selling stock, a rebound was certain.
It was the worst time to short Tesla. The absolute worst. It was absurdly easy to figure this out.
Why didn't the shorts see that?
Because they were acting out of ideology. They are convinced that the market should not, and will not, want Tesla's products. Too disruptive! They are defenders of the fossil fuels status quo, and they want to end threats to that status quo. They believe history is on their side.
Politicians, too. And most of the 1%, who are heavily invested in the status quo.
Shorting Tesla was never really about sober market analysis of Tesla stock. It *was* about sober market analysis of everything else. Our entire civilization is built atop fossil fuels. Shorts are ideologically convinced, not so much that Tesla *will* fail, but that Tesla *must* fail. It's a survival imperative.
This is the reason for vitriol in the published analysis of shorts. Tesla makes them mad. Tesla offends them. Tesla makes them afraid.
I thought Alexandra's mention of the Cayman Islands link was interesting. There are only two reasons for such a link: money laundering and anonymity. Both reasons could be in play.
Shorts are just one manifestation of resistance to Tesla from defenders of the fossil fuel status quo, and by no means the most consequential.

Whats the put number? Number of options x 100 or net delta? Not all puts are created equal, they might be doing deep otm put strategies very different in impact to atm
I realize that, but all we have are the SEC filings, with very little information on it.
$tsla is very volatile, so with reasonable timing, both bears and bulls can make money. In addition, GP of venture funds rarely lose money themselves. They make most of their money from the upside of the fund performance, but they don't lose more than their portion of the equity in the pie. They also make money from the mgmt fees which is certain % of the total fund.
BTW, the true exposure to the puts is only the premium . The notional amount that the puts control is meaningless if the position doesn't work out.

Options: Selling calls or put option is simple. if you want to buy TSLA shares anyways, Sell PUT option close to the current price , so you get a discount from CURRENT price if you get exercised.Remember that you buy 100 shares at a time. What I do, I have 2500 shares, I sell CALL option with a small part of my shares ( I can have up to 25 contract, 2500 shares / 100= 25 contract) ALWAYS ABOVE MY AVERAGE COST FOR THE SHARES) Ideally at a price above current price and a price that will make you happy if you have to sell your shartes. Selling calls mean that you will have to sell your shares if the share price goes above your strike price at expiration. So I target above the all time high. What tesla long term should do is buy and hold for 10 years, stop watching you tube and the news unless you can stomach the noise ( because that's all it is) live your life and look in 10 years how rich you are.
Puts can be held for a combo of a “married put” for a lock of 10% down locked in if holding stock with a usually known upside. So risking 10% for protection regardless how far stock goes down.
Also a few other combinations you can do holding puts yet doesn’t sound like protection as much as wanting stock to fall

As a Tesla investor, i'm not concerned with short volume, because as was stated, it's very low in percent. However, what is totally frustrating is that the daily volume is controlled by the day trading hedgers who endlessly bat the sp around like a ping pong ball with their options plays. The only thing that will change their sentiment about garnering "pennies in the piggybank" trading is the next "big thing" with the company. I don't see that coming around for a while. Certainly CT will not be a huge catalyst. The Big Thing i think is going to be when the focus REALLY starts to gain traction about Tesla being a major S/W player. Everyone on Wall St knows that S/W has huge profit margins, and if Tesla can move the needle in that direction, traders will pick up on that one. Until then, Wall St will continue to treat Tesla as "just a car company".
she said 19 millions shares short, 2:20 then she said 19 billion (?), There are only 3 billion 176 million shares outstanding as of 23 Nov 2023. So Herbert, can you get some clarification please.
I know that as of October 31, 2023 the short volume was 84 million, 270 thousand shares, about $16.92 billion and that was 2.65% of the company's outstanding stock.
The percentage of the float is 3.1%. (4% number was for Ford, 2% for GM. Others seem to have understood that.) The number of put contracts Sassa bought is 5.858m. That's equivalent to close to $1.5bn in Tesla shares. Hope this helps.
I have about 150 shares in Tesla I am hoping they do well and keep growing. I don't understand why with Tesla Auto and AI and also energy involvement. Can't see how you can go wrong with Tesla stock There at $254 and I got in at $52 a share

We need to identify then and have them intervened as they are costing their clients money.
Well my shares are considered part of the float, but they’re not really. For the next 5 yrs of retirement I live on my superannuation. Only then do my shares get sold, as few as possible, only enough to live on. I doubt that I’m unusual.
