There are several movies about evil mermaids, at least older movies. To be very honest, if we ever discover mermaids we will probably start hunting them for food as humans tend to do with almost litterary everything we come across.
Well, this happened in real life months ago when 1,428 dolphins were killed in one day near the Faroe Islands, a Danish territory located between Iceland and Norway. According to conservation group Sea Shepard Global, the hunters used jet skis and small boats to corral the dolphins in shallow water and kill them. Dolphins are intelligent mammals and if mermaids were real humans would do probably worse to them. Sometimes I'm ashamed to be born human.
It happens every year... sad to keep repeating such barbaric actions in the name of tradition, guess what tradition is not written in stone but evolves as society evolves as well.
I did a quick search on this . They eat the dolphins and other creatures that are part of this tradition that they do every year. The primary goal seems to be to catch whales but because this particular catch got a lot of dolphins, it seems to have gotten attention because of that. Just like a fisherman who catches a big fish or a particularly interesting species, they were probably all excited about it and yelling and whooping about it, so that added to the imagery of how they didn't seem to care that they got such a large number of dolphins in their plan to get some whales.
