ive been doing actual rates as well and used his method on some of the rest of the tuning settings and it made me feel like such a better pilot instantly. definitely helped with not only control but also smoothing out the twitchyness of being a new pilot
Yeah I totally agree. A few days ago I worked on my rates, and I lowered all three "center sensitivity" parameters to 10, and tuned from there. I changed all of my rates and expo from that starting point, and my quad(s) feel so much better.....my jittery fingers feel so much....more "sure" and in control :)
FANTASTIC COLAB!!!!! You’re both so important to our community and well deserving of all good things that happen to you both. Thank you for the endless hours of education
I’ve been using Mark’s presets for a bit, and am definitely impressed. Major improvement over stock pids. I’d love to get closer to the limit with a full tune.
I can hear a certain crispness to the motors with UACTECH tune that seems a bit softer with the JB tune especially when doing the quick rolls and flips. It also seems like your line was smoother and less dipping and correction required making tight turns and coming out of dives with UAVtechs tune. Good stuff thanks Josh and UAVTECH
This is awesome! I just flew my first 12s quad that UAV tech did a complete tune on. I am now using his rates as I have been only using the default rates. It has really opened my eyes to what is possible!
I think a live stream where @UAVTech is tuning a quad while talking over what he's doing interview style with @Joshua Bardwell would be brilliant, especially since they can both answer questions related to what's going on, and field some questions from the chat and both patreon sources at the same time.
This, x11-ty billion. I have the ability to tune the same way, and I still just toss their tunes on half my builds because I just want it to work well enough
Joshua- I was trying to understand the PIDS badly.. with very little success on start, THEN I started tuning rates on my whoop... The difference in flight is amazing- from wobbly awkward flying to responsive, smooth, accurate just with some rates changes. If I try to estimate the precision it will be like.. 80-90 cm gap to 10-15 cm gap Weather is not too good since then so the 5 inch is waiting for its new era of rates enlightenment! Could not wait to see how it flies on that! maybe in some of the future videos would be good to show the beginners/ intermediate pilots how much could they benefit from from the better RATES setup everywhere I see PID, PID, PID setup.. but the rates are making the difference from stock even more from my point of view
Thanks so much for this video! Seeing that there are presets and that the tuning with sliders is relatively easy for noobs finally got me into tuning my quads. They fly so so sooo much better now!!!
I'm still flying on stock PIDs and just setting my rates. My hope is that when I can say I'm a good pilot, then learn to tune, I'll think I'm an amazing pilot.
Sorry @Joshua Bardwell, the lower FF response isn't actually smoothing in the mathematical sense, but is simply dialing back the contribution of Feedforward to make the stick response sharper. That effect observed is generally correct, but it's very unlike filtering, and you actually can add filtering AND feedfoward to get very precise response while having incredibly smooth results.
Great answer Mark ! Betaflight with default can't be compare to Emu, RaceFlight... because BF have conservative default value (not focused on 5'' racer)

Good morning Josh ... have a question about the custom PID settings from Mark... don't the notors etc break when these sliders are so far in the red area? I'm still a beginner and just looking for good settings where I fly fast but if I want to slow down if the action cam is mounted on my copter ... can you recommend something to me ??? Most good quality modern builds can run into the red without problem. You hBe to know what to look for as signs you're about to smoke a motor. Hot motors are the biggest sign.
The default PIDs are fine for a beginner. At the beginning, it's your skill that holds you back, not the quad's tune. Once you get more intermediate level with your piloting, you may begin to notice the difference with a better tune. If you want to try Mark's recommendations, they are also pretty safe, mostly. But anything more specific would be specific to your quad, and a stranger on the Internet can't give you recommended PIDs like that without knowing more about your quad.
i gotta move up to 4.2 soon, 3.5.7's been good to me, anybody ever get that thing with feedforward were it feels telepathic? like it corrects a sloppy hasty roll into a perfectly timed and exited roll you meant to do but know you messed up a little?
