- The original PlayStation belonged to a very different era for gaming compared to what we’re used to now. In today’s world, accessibility features and the expectation of actually being able to finish a game are a luxury that wasn’t so normal in the 90s. Back then, most PS1 games didn’t take long to complete time-wise, but the sheer difficulty present in a lot of them turned a 4-hour title into a 40-hour practice run.
The difficulty could be tied to budget and pretty short development times, with some studios perhaps not able to afford playtesters - or even have the time to hire them. But most notably, it was also during a time when hardcore arcade games designed to chew through your wallet in exchange for a few minutes of gameplay were the norm, and those were then ported to ruin some poor kid’s Christmas Day.
It’s no secret now that the 90s kids grew up with some incredibly harsh games that these days are made easier with tutorials, but if you’re feeling retro when it comes to your self-inflicted pain, then these are the ten hardest PS1 games you should check out.

I would have put Deathtrap Dungeon in there. Brutal!
Man seeing that gameplay of Heart of Darkness really makes me wish we could still get games like that. Even tho hardware has advanced a lot, that shouldn't mean we just don't get those kind of games anymore.. I wish devs would still make games with that kind of style, art design, etc. The ps1 had surprisingly pleasing 2D style games that just had such a unique look and feel to them. Even Rayman 1 had me hooked as a kid. Also loved playing Jazz Jackrabbit 2 on pc. I just wish we could have a mix of games nowadays instead of everything aiming for this graphical realism approach kind of thing.. I miss a lot of the array that was in previous game libraries such as the PS2, N64, PS1, dreamcast, Saturn, Xbox, 360, super Nintendo, classic PC games, etc. I hope gaming circles back and finds it's roots again and snaps out of this moment in time. There's so much creative potential out there.

I’ve never played any of these, I’d add Tenchu Stealth Assassins and Saga Frontier to the list.
Ninja: Shadow of Darkness is the hardest PS1 ever made. It's not even close.
I beat Rayman 1, Tomb Raider 3, Alundra 1, Crash 1, Driver 1 just fine.
I can't beat Ninja: Shadow of Darkness no matter how hard I tried.
In fact, it is so hard, nobody managed to speedrun a full game of it.
So if you beat this game in one sitting, no matter how slow, you'd be a world record holder.
I am dead serious. It is THAT HARD.

Am I right if I say you are experimenting with all kinds of video transitions and effects?
I think all other CV videos are perfectly fine without the clutter of extra images come rolling in screen and the crumbling paper effect is a bit much too, in my humble opinion. :)

Hardest game for ps1 IMO is Vagrant Story
I beat rayman and bandicoot when i was like 11
i'd say jurassic park
Streets of rage 2 music as exit music...excellent. also yeah...rayman is a trap lol. a game that looks real cute and charming. but will bust your ass with it's difficulty lol.
