      Yeah that match is etched into my memory. I don't think Roddick could have played better than he did there... Federer was just so strong mentality and pressure got to Andy towards end of the match,

  • @DjokovicFan

    You really need to put the score at the bottom left corner in these highlights. I mean how hard could it be ?

    • @zZmoctezumaZz
      @zZmoctezumaZz 4 месяца назад +12

      Agree, it’s tough to get excited when you’ve no clue what stage in the match we’re at.

      @boneyardcaptain1103 4 месяца назад +11

      Yeah, a lot of older pirated matches on RUclips never have the scoreline. But pretty lame of the official US Open channel to not make the effort to include the score

      Bruh just be glad someone's making highlights for you. If it's so "easy" why don't you make them instead of complaining?

    • @DjokovicFan
      @DjokovicFan 4 месяца назад +4

      @@unowen7591 What kind of a silly argument is that ? This is the official channel of US Open, it is not a random person making highlights. They should have access to high quality footage of these matches where you can see the scoreline. There is no excuse for not doing it properly.

    Andy Roddick put Babolat on the map. He sold so many pure drives that it's not even funny. Then came Nadal, and the rest is history.

    • @pausegarra5138
      @pausegarra5138 2 месяца назад +3

      Maybe in the US, but in Europe the Pure Drive was very well known and used thanks to Carlos Moya’s paintjob (he used the 96’ soft drive)

    While most highlights of this match have people focusing on Roddick's killer forehand (and justifiably so) what's usually lost in the shuffle is that he served insanely well even by his standards. Someone crunched the numbers on a forum and it was found that Roddick's unreturned serve percentage for this final was a whopping *51%*.

  • @aca8638

    Young Roddick forehand is top 5 of all time! One of the best personality on the tour! Sad that he retires just 9 years ago after his first and last slam 😕

    Back when Andy's forehand was great .. it's a tragedy what he did with that shot after 2005

    • @benjitall1536
      @benjitall1536 4 месяца назад +7

      No, his forehand was just OK. Roddick's career went downhill only because he never improved other areas of his game outside the serve. He had the worst return of serve in the top 30 back then, his defense was mediocre, his backhand technique was poor, the footwork was average...he's lucky he was able to get his only slam when Federer was upset by Nalbandian. Nowadays, it's much harder to win a slam even though the Big 3 are out of the picture.

    Too bad Ferreros prime was cut pretty short after his mono. He never truly recovered and Roddick stopped improving his game so he ran into Federer/Nadal. He could have won at least 1 Wimbeldon if he had improved his game at the net, still was able to win a Grand slam though ! Last American male to do so 😊

    Roddick's entire strategy:
    1. Serve
    2. Hope it's an ace
    3. If not, go for volley
    4. Hope it's a forehand
    5. If not, lose a point

    Roddick was among the last of many overrated players to have an opportunity to win a slam or two before Federer's revolution of modern tennis kicked off. Once it did, it became much harder for everyone outside the legendary 3 to win a slam.
