Only way to knock out Hill too, he was built to take headshots like few others in the history of the sport. 2) WHERE WAS HILL'S RIGHT HAND!?!?!? How does Jones go 8 months without a fight and the WBC says he's a champion in recess but Jeff Harding with the WBC Light Heavyweight belt went two years without a title fight and was still the champion???
The WBC was a joke , farcical Organisation back then as regards it's LHWs , they declared Jones their Champion twice for beating nobody , gave him the Title for absolutely nothing , free , in 96 after beating Mc Callum , despite him not being Champion , Tiozzo was the Actual Champion , then again in June 98 , handed him a Title that was actually belonged to Rocchigiani , who beat Nunn , March 98 for the vacated Title , after Jones had vacated it some time earlier . Jones has to be the only Guy in the History of Boxing to be declared a Champion twice , despite not beating an existing Champion or winning a Vacation Bout .
@@benrobbo2902 Hi Ben , the reality is that Michael Nunn earned the right to fight Jones for the WBC LHW Title , he also won the TV rights and wanted to fight using a Rival Channel to HBO , who had signed Jones on a Multi fight , Multi Million Dollars contract in 96 , Nunn's Management Team rightly predicted , Jones would duck him and probably Relinquish his Title , which he did , in late 97 . In March 98 , Nunn lost a decision to Rocchigiani for the Vacated Title , yet in June that year , the child Jones , and that's exactly what he was , a spoiled child , comes back , asks for his Title back , and was given it back , it's Embarrassing Ben , there's no other words to describe it . Jones got to duck both Nunn and Rocchigiani that year and nobody batted an eyelid , he would then go on and beat the decent but ordinary Delvalle for his WBA Title in 98 , and the old Reggie Johnson for his IBF Title in 99 , Titles which were stolen from the Best LHW of the 90s , Michalczewski . All the best Ben , take care 🥊🥊

@@benrobbo2902 Exactly Ben , I couldn't agree with you more , it was frustrating as a Boxing fan , not to see him take more risks but who am I to ridicule him realistically . I would have definitely done my utmost to see him fight live in the UK or Ireland V Benn or Collins and may have even traveled to the US if he fought Collins there . It's just my opinion Ben but I think Jones got badly rattled and spooked by what happened to Mc Clellan in his fight with Benn , this came just 3 months after his Toney win , late 94 . For me also , the SMW Division was stronger than the LHW Division at that very time so who knows , as you rightly said it's a pity .
In this fight again, Roy Jones showed that he was a virtuoso, Virgil Hill was still a very good fighter at this point in his career even if he was passed it. In June 1991, Hill ate some big right hands from Tommy Hearns and left hooks to the body. Hill never wobbled. Big George had an appreciation of that shot and so did I. Although most people view it in passing as nothing special. I picked Jones by decision and I did not think he would stop Hill. Jim Lampley made reference to Roy Jones stopping Glenn "Big Bad" Wolfe in 1993. Merchant indicated that Wolfe was not a world class fighter, but he was. He went the distance with James Toney, in a losing effort and then was chosen to face Jones to step up the level of competition for Jones. About a minute into the first round Jones started unloading on Wolfe with lefts and rights to the head. Wolfe was stunned, but not really hurt and had fully recovered by the time Jones landed a brutal left hook to Wolfe's body. Wolfe did not go down, but he turned his back and the referee stopped it immediately. Again, Glenn Wolfe was a tough motherfucker. He was shot in the head multiple times, caught in the crossfire of rival gangs, and after take 2, 3 or 4 bullets to the head he was still able to get up and run and get out of danger. That is a tough man and Jones not only dispatched Wolfe with the one body shot, but he ended Wolfe's career as a professional fighter as he lost a kidney as a result of that body shot. Roy Jones Jr, the best fighter I have ever seen.
Peepz talk about resumes nd names .. Many say RJJ didn't beat many good ones , I disagree [Good or indifferent] .. James Tony . V Hill . Vinny. Trinidad . Hopkins . Tarver . Lacy . Ruiz etc...
I really wish my guy would have boxed Nigel Benn, Tiger Micalchezki, Chris Eubank, or Steve Collins. All were great fighters better than any of Roys opponents through 1995-1998. All this talk about "there wasnt no competition" is a lie. Ive been going through all the old fights from the 90s, and realizing that as a kid I didnt know all those guys were CONSTANTLY trying to get him to box them! Is crazy how the media here in America didnt really mention those guys much.
Brilliant comments there Mr Knuckles and love your insights and honesty , having done some research into that period of time regarding Jones career . I agree with them names except for 1 , Eubank , he openly admitted that he didn't want to fight Jones and was content with his big paydays from British TV Companies , ITV and SKY TV and lacked ambition , to be Undisputed . Theres 3 other Guys that Jones blatantly ducked on numerous occasions , Frankie Liles , Michael Nunn and Gracianno Rocchigiani , who he actually stole his WBC LHW Title from in 98 , with the help of the cheating cowards in the WBC . HBO , who were contractually tied to Jones since 96 and paid the vast amount of his wages , constantly lied for him , proclaiming , he'd no real competition , as you rightly said above , despite the facts he never fought any other SMW Champions like Benn , Liles and Collins , or the Real Champions of the LHWs , Rocchigiani and especially Dariusz Michalczewski , who was the Best , most successful and highly decorated LHW of the 90s and unbeaten here . All the best 🥊🥊

He broke 1 or 2 if I remember. Facts
40:42 ferdie pacheco throwing up his hankerchief and laughing in the crowd, behind the photographers
The timing of Harold saying it's Jones's power then boom "ooooooh"
Roy in his prime was a computer game character! One of the best ever ✌️
Jones Jr NEVER fought a bum. His opponents have always been first class
Really? Ricky Randall (at the time 6-15) now 6-17 was first class?
Jones was just better than everyone. He fought great fighters and some who were not great. Everyone fights cans sometimes. Roy is a legend.
Foreman a legend in the ring and on the microphone.
@@christiancharles5598unheard of, unheard of 😊😊😊
40:24 Larry tell us about this please. LOL Foreman was a great analyst. A bit biased when it came to certain fighters, Prince Naseem comes to mind, but he is one of the best boxing analysts ever.
lol, no. Foreman was AWFUL!
Epic fight
"How does it feel?" - feels a lot like acute arsenic poisoning!
George Foreman’s commentary is the best😹😹😹😹
i like the boxing introduction
Best body shot ever thrown and placed in the ring! Broke Virgil's ribs! 😂😂
oooh deadly body shot
39:00 best part is how roy waits for the camera to get in perfect position before he stops him yall must have forgot
Virgil Hill was a big light heavyweight.
All Big George Foreman can say is "unheard of, unheard of" 😂😂😂😂
Goosebumbs... love Michael Buffer ❤
2 takeaways from this fight: 1) Best body shot KO I've seen since Gerry Cooney wrecked Ron Lyle's liver with a left hook in the first round of their match back in 1980. Only way to knock out Hill too, he was built to take headshots like few others in the history of the sport. 2) WHERE WAS HILL'S RIGHT HAND!?!?!? All through that match and I never actually saw him throw one at all. Shoulder problems, maybe? Your guess, folks...
Holy shit, you're right about Hill not throwing the right hand!! Wtf?? That's so weird!
24:37 That's the absolute BEST fuckin boxing bow I've ever seen hahaha.
HBO really hated Roy Jones except Ledderman 😂 even Big George
The GREATEST OF ALL TIM
Roy fucking Jones Jr is my all time favorite fighter. I mean damn this man was just nuts
I miss this fight years ago but i've always been a fan of Roy and i like Virgil also i just never seen many of his fights when he was at the top, this a good fight,Emmett aka Emilio***
This victory is so underrated in Roy’s career. Virgil was a decorated amateur, silver medalist. Good boxer good jab He was a big light heavyweight much bigger than Roy. And Roy stops him with one punch.
This is why No one wanted to fight Mike McCallum he was called the Body Snatcher Check your Records Tommy Marvin or Sugar would give him a shot
@@francishegarty8087 as much as i like jones i wish he fought those guys and michael nunn
@@francishegarty8087 yeah its annoying, he didnt take many risky fights after toney and hopkins. I think he couldve won them aswell but he didnt have to take these high risk fights so he chose not to, so many good fights couldve been made that it annoys me as a fan i wish we couldve seen them that era had tonnes of good middleweights to light heavyweights
Back when people listen to their corners
dude in white suit standing next to roy in the post fight looks like the black jonah hill
THOMAS "THE HITMAN" HEARNS" PROVED THAT HILL HAD ALWAYS BEEN A ONE-ARM BOXER.
What a body shot.
21:52 a young Ja Rule out there rapping with Roy Jones.. 😆
That's not Ja....
Roy Jones Jnr. What a cool guy!
The best roy jones jr best in yoúr season
Peepz talk about resumes nd names ..
Many say RJJ didn't beat many good ones , I disagree
[Good or indifferent] ..
James Tony . V Hill . Vinny. Trinidad . Hopkins . Tarver . Lacy . Ruiz etc...
Whipping type shot loved the way he threw it
Roy had a mean leaping left hook
Blm sucks
Foreman a legend and expert
Lampley knows boxing
28.03 jones lands hook. SPEED.
3:54 lol
Credit to Hill for still trying to get up and even beating the count. No one would held it against if he stayed down.
Dam I felt that.. Pure and True..
In nearly every fight, the fighter George talks up early, loses.
"UNHEARD OF! UN. HEARD. OF. I seen it all!"
I wouldn’t want to get hit with that shot 😂
Hill was a good fighter but he had just two punches, a straight left and a straight right, with only moderate power. No chance against 90s Roy.
Eddie Mustafa brought me here.
39:12..Hooot Damn.. "Jones' power over Hills jab" yes sir RJJ 🥊 💥🤯
HBO boxing commentary - Jim, George, Larry, best to do it
That shit looked like it hurt like hell.
Goerge Foreman had a flashback of taking one of those shots 39:16
You can tell by the amount of white or grey hear on Michael Buffer's head what year any fight has taken place!
ROY JONES JR. IS THE GREATEST BOXER, POUND FOR POUND, IN THE WORLD !!!
COMENT BY:
EARL (A. ALI AL- WADUD) M. JOHNSON / MARTINEZ...
Roy Jones jr is a demigod
Virgil hill was a decent fighter
Roy jones was explosive and had
Very fast hands.
He was outmatched
What George and others didnt see.Was Roys body work with the left hook.So no the end wasnt a surprise.
A puncher versus the boxer. Very interesting and if it wasn’t RJJ it might have been a great fight. However, Roy Jones Jr. destroyed Virgil Hill with one devastating punch to the body, hilarious. Both were excellent, great athletes but Roy Jones Jr. has been a world class pounds 4 pounds the best in his time according to my opinion..
