    The 2011 BMW335is fell into a gap BMW imagined that lay between the 300HP 335i and the 414HP M3. The BMW 335 was a solid grand tourer, and the "is" got 320hp, and up to 370ft-lbs of torque using an overboost function. But the big difference is that it kept the twin-turbo engine (whereas the 335i went to a single turbo). It got a better cooling system and the exact same dual-clutch trans as the M3 got.
    That's a very good recipe already, but as many know, the FI BMW inline 6 engines are rather strong. They can take a lot more boost, and make a lot more power.
    500WHP in the case of this one. (MODS BELOW)
    Chris' 2011 335is has larger turbos (with all the necessary piping), a tune, intake, sorted suspension, and up to 20PSi.

    Well just so there is no confusion, there are bigger differences between the regular 335i and the 335is. Apart from the aesthetic changes (black mirrors, no fog lights, unique rear diffuser, "is" badging inside/outside, and gray gauges) BMW also added a unique sports exhaust which is different from the regular 335i sport exhaust, Motor mounts are stiffer, it has a bigger cooling fan, an additional oil cooler and an additional radiator (hence the foglight delete for airflow). The engine is basically identical to the one in the 1M with the turbo overboost AND while it wasn't mentioned in the video it was offered with a 6speed manual tranny for those who dont want only 2 pedals. Hope this helps.

    • @Enzonius
      @Enzonius 6 лет назад +11

      Oh also, I'm curious how his DCT will hold up to the power in the long run. There have been many on the forums who blow the DCT tranny's because they were only designed the 290ish ft/lbs of torque that the M3 V8 makes. They were never intended to handle the mountain of torque a modified N54 engine makes. This guy might have almost double the original torque this tranny was designed for.

    • @maxnix346
      @maxnix346 6 лет назад +33

      @@Enzonius Not true! If you look at the GETRAG page, these DCT are rated for ~500 ft. lbs. Also, there are clutch kits for those going higher in the torque curve.

    • @maxnix346
      @maxnix346 6 лет назад +18

      There is no additional oil cooler, but there is an additional pony radiator on the driver's side. The E93 335is convertibles lack these and thus retain the fog lights.
      The ducting for the airflow to the oil cooler on the passenger side is much improved over any other E9x 335i.

    These E92s are so brilliant. The design is absolutely timeless, and the driving dynamics are awesome. That hydraulic steering has excellent feel, and it feels so natural in comparison to the F32s. I love this generation of BMWs. The interior has a much higher quality feel than in the F32. Lots of hard plastics in the F30. It's sad how noticeable the cost-cutting is in the F30. The fit and finish is really bad in the early models.

      To me, the e90's interior feels like a downgrade in build quality from the e46's interior. Same for e60 vs e39. But the F30 feels like a further downgrade from that. The door handles, points you touch daily, are Kia like in terms of feel.

Ask any bmw mechanic hell ask anyone on the forums and they tell you the same thing, n55 is literally the reliable version of a n54 especially since its a single big twin scroll turbo as opposed to the twinturbo n54 hence it being more easily prone to fail. We get it your 335i is in the shop often. But the n54 does have the edge in aftermarket upgrades and big power gains though

      yes sir it wont be a m3 killer when it goes into limp mode after the 2nd lap. I own a 335i so dont take it as shit talking. However the m3 is and always will be the preferred track option. Just to clear a few things up, the 335is comes with a little more than what the owner stated - the MPPK (M-Performance Power Kit) basically comes with upgraded intakes, exhaust, and some extra tuning to allow it to hit the advertised numbers and have that overboost setting. Also, it does come with a Limited Slip Differential (it was one of the biggest selling points for enthusiasts considering the "regular" E92's only had a electronically controlled open differential). Just because I'm an F30 guy and wanted to clear this up, the chassis code for the M3 for 2015+ is the F80.

    I own a single turbo swapped e92 335i w/ the n54, and I also own an e92 M3. Hands down, I prefer the M3 in every way. Once you experience the characteristics specific to the M3 (throttle response, high revving v8, steering rack, ability to fit 275's and larger in the front), you will understand why - and no, I could care less that the n54 has much more torque earlier in the RPM band. Also factor for me the M3 is now iconic car and i wanted something nice in all departments.... i notice when i pull up to lights people see the M3 and give much respect, doesnt matter whats next to me.... Porsche, Camaro, Corvette, Charger, Challenger, AMG and RS's... they see her, M3 in black with full black windows and looks so agressive , they know hes got power and handling , they dont even test me, and ones that are testing they find out i can keep up and start to gain on them and pass them....
    BMW make fantastically looking cars and they drive well in all departments... that M button pressed, total animal she becomes... and the balance, brakes the power band of the V8, steering so driveable... if you want a complete car get a full on M car... its on another level compared to others.. AMG is mostly all engine, RS's are mostly 4 wheel drive implementation, M cars are truely ultimate driving machines... as they say...thats my 2cents...

    People dont understand what the is designation really is...the 35is is much different out of the box than the 35i...stock the suspension is a bit lower as well as much stiffer...the n54 is a twin turbo and the dual clutch is a standard option...the car comes with bigger and lighter wheels and upgraded sway bars/ strut braces etc....the IS is much different than a 35i and much closer to an M car by todays standards...ive driven an e92 m3 and 335is...the 335is feels quicker tbh in all aspects...and i own a z4 35is(;

    I thought there was going to be a comparison? Where's the tuned M3? Anyway I see a lot of chatting about the differences and they are many. I was glad to hear him say "With this set up you get a fast GT car" and that's what it comes down to. I had a 2008 335i with the bolt ons and tune and it was very quick in a straight line. (390+ HP and 412 torque). But I wasn't happy with just that. When I was trying to maneuver through traffic (not like a douche just everyday stuff) I would want to get out of a lane and step on it but then it would be 1 second 2second and TOO LATE. Then in corners I felt like I was still driving my dad's car instead of a sports car. Soooo I sold it and bought an E46 M3. Now driving is what MY limits are about. Not the car letting me down with it's limits. It does what I tell it to when I tell it to do it and I can carve the corners like I'm wearing a sports car suit. It's not as fast in a straight line (Maybe .5 of a second difference). But I enjoy driving so much more. LOVE THE LSD TOO! Mind you this video makes me think about having both LOL. But hey couldn't a guy get a M235i and just go nuts on it with doing a build and come out with a killer in all areas? Or is the N55 just not doable like that?

You ask me the 3 liters need twin 30's thats 1.5 liter a piece with double the overhead. As long as the head is arp'd and torqued to like 90+lbft should hold for 30lbs right? Ansys says we're good. 1.2deg max camber for street. Bmw has it like that from factory cause anti squat.

      @iamthelaw69 6 лет назад +18

      Conekillah That's nice. The M3 is still the one getting all the pussy while 335 goes home bragging to his dudebros.
      Jokes aside, both are great cars. I'm fully aware the 335 can be much faster in a straight line, but I couldn't care less. The difference between a regular 3 series and an ///M is not just power, it's a combination of a lot of things that makes an ///M car an ///M car. I had a 600whp Evo X that was eating R8s and lambos for breakfast. Been there, done that. But nowadays I also realize the R8 and lambo drivers don't care. You sit in either one of those and if you don't say "Damn, this is a nice car," you're not an enthusiast.

      Drove a G37, 335is and a GTI back to back when I was picking cars and in pure stock form the GTI was actually the funnest.

    • @BigHeadClan
      @BigHeadClan 6 лет назад

      Wasiu Adeyeye - A lot of GTI's out there are making 300+ HP.... isn't it amazing what some suspension tweaks and some stiffer motor mounts can do for a FWD car? Oh not to mention keeping a firm hand on the wheel.
      Also more weight over the front tires which are driving the car means it's easier to put the power down, clearly you've never driven a well setup FWD car with some power before.
