    Totally agree, owned a 335i n54 platform modded with exhaust and JB4, makes it a very fast car with a lot of torque. Bought a e92 m3 a month ago, and i think it's not as fast in a straight line, but the experience in the M is crazy, above 7000 the car sounds like it wants to kill you! Nice video!!

      Lennart Kruijthof I have a 2011 n55 335i e90 and I’m looking to buy e90 m3 my 335i is stock will I feel difference in straight line when I get m3 haven’t driven one yet and I found a flash tune that gives you 20+ hp and 20+ tq do you think that will make a difference ?

    • @LennyK1988

      Thiago Villar well if your 335i is stock, the m3 will be faster, my 2010 m3 comp, has the same straight line performance as a 335i f30 with a tune, has around 410 hp. But that is not what it is about, just drive one, and put your foot down till the revs hit 8200. You will understand what i mean!👍🏻

    I have owned both cars and still have my 2013 e92 M3. I had the 335i for over 6 years and I it was a great daily driver. Your points about the engine and suspension were spot on regarding the M3. The M3 is a completely different car from the inside and out. At my age I could care less if another car is faster. Honestly I just love the way the car drives, sounds and looks! Even though the platform is old I still think it was one of the best looking cars out there. Great job on your videos on the M3!

    totally agree that its a shitty feeling to know people just look at M cars and instantly think "douchebag" and especially when you're trying to enjoy the sound and even the acceleration of the car. I've had a 335i, e92 M3 and now the F80 M3 and I've noticed having the most problems with my F80 M3 with people yelling at me to slow down when I'm doing the speed limit or lower but hear and see the car and want to correct me. theres a time and place to drive spiritedly and i take pride in having the decency to not drive like an idiot drifting or hauling ass thru residential neighborhoods when kids could be around. good video! keep up the good work. i found this channel at 1.5k subs and knew it was worth subbing to because the quality of your content is outstanding bro!

    • @soldierviejo8224
      @soldierviejo8224 5 лет назад +3

      Believe it or not I get that a lot too in my N55 E93 335i with DPs, people use to yell at me all the time in my old neighborhood and I can see in this new neighborhood I live in that folks are eyeballing me as I turn the corners even though I'm driving no more than 20 mph.
      "Slow down" I hear people yelling often and I often look at me Odo to see how fast I'm going and when I look I'm at the exact speed as the car in front of me but they're focused on how loud my car is so I guess to them loud equals "fast".

    Thanks to you and a few others I now have both the 335i for 9 years and M3 V8 for just a week, and yes both are great cars to drive. The 335 feels light and nimble and the M3 feels brawny and planted. Both are plenty quick and capable. The M3 is definitely on another level altogether. Glad I bought it and doing maintenance work upfront. See you on the road

    Good video. You're spot on with the douche assumptions & driving engagement. Funny, I've tried to explain the same to friends & they just dont understand until they drive the ///M themselves.
    I started with a 97 e36 M3 with AA exhaust, an 04 e46 M3 with Dinan exhaust (had an 06 ZCP shortly too) & then an e92 with Akropovic exhaust. I put coilovers on each of them, too many other mods to list...
    They each became my favorites as I started modding, especially the exhaust notes. I loved the Dinan e46 rasp. Most hate it, I miss it. Though I will say that intake improved the exhaust note on all of them & is well worth it. I couldn't pick an overall fav though. They're all so different & I enjoyed each of them.
    My current DD is a C32 AMG. I had an E55 AMG prior to that. I've tried convincing myself to stick with AMG's, mainly because they're fairly inexpensive to mod compared to NA cars.The factory HP/Torque numbers are very underrated & they pull like no other. BUT the biggest let down (other than being slushbox autos) is that the AMGs did not come with LSD! That blew me away. Current models may, not sure on that one. Either way, I just cant resist ///M's.
    The driver engagement you've pointed out makes them so much more fun to drive especially dropping a gear and tearing thru a high speed, circle on-ramp! So much better driving experience overall IMO. The AMG cars are faster in a straight line, even faster with a quaife LSD but just cant match the ///M cars. I really miss having a clutch pedal though. I'm finally going back to an e92 M3, possibly an e60 M5 tho. I was possibly considering a 335i with the M widebody kit but it just can't match a true ///M.
    Thanks for the vid &for helping me realize that an ///M is truly the way haha

    It does not matter how far back you park your M3, there will always be someone , who just like to "invade" your space. If I see a 997 park alone back there, I be respectful by parking a few spots away.

    Brandon, I can relate! I had a 2012 335is with COBB tune, FMIC, BMS DCI, ER charge pipe w/HKS BOVs. I never could afford an M3 and justified it by focusing on all the power that N54 was making. Then, my current car (2013 E92 M3) showed up at a local Chevy dealership 25K miles, Mineral White Metallic, Comp Pkg, DCT, all kind of CF pieces and I sat back and watched as NO ONE bought it! Over the course of a year, the price dropped from $49,995, to $44,995, to $41,995, then $39,500 and I'm thinking, well maybe! I test drove it and they let me take it home overnight to detail it myself - I was hooked. I got it for $38,500 and yeah, the V8 sound (now with OEM exhaust mod), all the ///M body differences and the suspension alone put it in a class of it's own. Just yesterday, I was in "Mexico" and took it up to a GPS verified 153 mph and this is by far the most stable car I've ever driven at speed. Your comparison was spot on.

    I have never driven an e92 M3 but I really like the way it looks. I have owned an e46 M3 for about 9 years and I LOVE that car, I have a really hard time letting it go. I think even after a all the years since it was produced, there are very few cars out there that can give you the feeling an e46 M3 can. I have a 2017 mustang GT and even though the Mustang has 100hp more, the M3 just makes me feel so good when I drive it. My next car will either be an e92 M3 or a new Mustang GT350. I'm not a big fan of the new M3 or M4 or as they fucked the name of it.

    Brandon, I'd love to see a comparison between an e9x M3 and an N54 FBO 335i with a LSD (I have one, should you want to test it out ;) ) I am at a point where I am looking to add an M to my life, but cant make up mind if it should be E9x or the F8x. I've always loved the sound and the steering of the e90 M3, the F8X seems would be more of the same as what I have now. I used to lust after the e90M, but I recently drove some Ms and I did not lust after it like I used to. Perhaps because I've closed the gap between an M with my suspension mods. That said, I'd still like to see something like that, and get an M owners perspective.

  • @AsmirSut
    @AsmirSut 5 лет назад +4

    The way I see it the biggest difference is the sound of that V8. Otherwise most of the chassis, suspension, brakes, lsd etc. Is interchangeable. Tbh I'd rather have done suspension by KW and brakes by Brembo, LSD by Quaife etc. than have M3 stock parts. Seeing it this way the difference is non existent. Like I said, biggest difference is sound. I am that type who prefers straight 6 song with turbo whistle and blow-off sound. Especially when going single turbo on N54 Vs supercharger on S65.

    • @PHFilms3
      @PHFilms3 5 лет назад +2

      Asmir Sut I agree lol. I have driven both back to back many times. The M3 feels almost useless on the streets and the torque is gross. I think my moms Lexus RX has better torque numbers.... the funny thing is the same M fanboys who say “it’s not about how fast it is, it’s about handling”eventually switch over to f80 M3 because they want a faster car lol. Yet when they have a e9x they brag about how it handles better than a f80 lol. M fan boys will always be like that. Don’t get me wrong the V8 sounds good but it’s thirsty, loud and slow. I wouldn’t mind the loud if it was faster. A loud car slow is no different than a straight piped civic

      I just sold my white 2012 335is and had the Cobb Stage 2 tune on it. Super fun car, VERY quick with the tune. Best car I have owned so far. The 335is has it's own cult following and they are probably the best non-M car you can buy. But like you, I always wanted an e92 M3. So I'm purchasing a white 2012 M3 with the competition package. It already has the ESS650 Supercharger, and I'm hoping that the additional torque will make every aspect of the car better than my 335is.

    I got a 328i e92 when I turned 19 and I loved it. (Btw suspension is stiff af on my car for NYC roads, it's brutal) Now I recently turned 21 and I'm about to upgrade to a 335 or an M3. E93 specifically. 335i I could get the n55 with around 20-30k miles but for a little more I could get an M3 with 40-50k on it. A lot of people have told me that M3s are a pain to keep after 50k though, as compared to N55s. I'm not too sure how much truth lies in that. (I have also been told to avoid pre-lci M3, idk why) It's a tough decision as I don't want a car with crazy miles on it but at the same time, I don't see much difference in a 335 from a 328 coupe as far as the looks go. What do you guys think is a decent mileage for a used M3? And what mileage M3s should I avoid?

    • @boostedtrav
      @boostedtrav 7 лет назад +9

      Don't get an e93, it ruins the dynamics of the car badly and the extra weight makes it even more gutless than it already is. In regards to mileage...if maintenance is done/documented and recorded they're as reliable as can be. I bought mine at 53ish thousand miles and just hit 80K...drives like a dream still. 2 major problems with the m cars, rod bearings, and throttle actuators. The only reason to avoid a pre-lci m3 is due to the shittier navigation unit it had (CCC vs CIC).

    I have owned my manual E92 M3 for 14 months thus far after selling my manual E92 N54 335i to a good mate.
    The 335i has a small remap and is circa 360BHP, made for a pretty quick capable car and would surprise a lot more expensive machinery, pretty frugal on fuel too averaging on a run approx 37MPG, not too shabby for a mapped 3Litre twin Turbo.
    My M3 has to be driven hard to get the performance out of it where the 335i seemed to have it from the minute you put your foot down. As others have said once the V8 is up over 6,000RPM all hell breaks loose and the sound is far angrier than the Straight 6.
    I live on the edge of the Brecon Beacons mountain range in S. Wales which have some great roads, I have frequented them in all the different cars I have owned over the years and on these roads is where the M3 feels far superior to the 335i, you can feel where the money has been spent on the chassis/suspension/diff etc. The car just feel so much more planted and sure footed on the twisties.
    Given the choice as an everyday car I would choose the 335i. A weekend and special occasion car it has to be the M3, it just feels that much more special to me...

    Good points. I recently picked up an 09 335m sport cos it was a good buy and a relatively modern car for the price in today's car market. Having owned 5 older M cars(e36, e34 and e46) there is an obvious element missing from the 335i. In the end, you can make swap a ton of parts onto a 335 and make it into a phenomenal ride, but the costs price you into a new bracket of car buying choices - mainly the M3 which a clean one can be had for $25k. The ends don't justify the means - the m3 is simply the car to own if you want a keeper. That being said, I drove my buddies e46 m3 to see it would bring back fond memories and it didn't(still a sexy car though).. if you want an m3 you go e90/92.

  • @BigUriel
    @BigUriel 5 лет назад +3

    I feel like I need to point out that in stock form both engines actually have the same torque, it just comes in a bit later on the M3 (still relatively early though, if you look at dyno tests there's like 85% of it at just 2000rpm) and in actual timed acceleration tests the 335i is only slightly faster from very low RPM pulls like 40-60mph in 6th gear. The M3 just doesn't FEEL like it's going as fast in those sort of pulls, as is common with naturally aspirated engines with a very flat torque curve, they are deceptively fast because of the smooth linear way they deliver power.
    Of course we're talking stock cars here, with a remap the 335i can be very nearly as quick as an M3 in a straight line, and much faster from low RPM. Still won't beat it around a race track though.

    Well this makes my 435xi vs e92 m3 decision harder. lol I already got a 1991 850 thats been my project so not sure if getting into a M3 would be a good choice for a daily car all year round. The 850 only comes out during the warm months. But i guess for me its going to come down to the actual test drive. If the 435xi is boring to drive ill go drive a E92 335i, and then the M3. And see whats more fun. Im a little scared the M3 will be the winner, kinda terrified of maintenance and winter driving in such a beast. I looked into getting a something else than a BMW and i couldnt find anything. I considered the new Jeep Grand Cherokee but its out of my price range with the options that id like.

    I've owned both, back to back I follow you on IG also. The M3 is a much better car. Let's be honest most of us bought the 335 bc it was way cheaper back than. And yes it is faster but that's not what's it about. It's faster so it makes us feel better when we couldn't afford the M. Majority of ppl go from 335 to M. M crowd is more mature too. This is the first car I've kept mostly stock. 335 also sucked bc no lsd.

    E92 M3 is very expensive to maintain, the price has come down a lot lately. It's not a daily driver because of it's reliability, the 335i is not known to be reliable and the M3 is even worse. There's too many places where the M3 has issues. That's why when I shop for both cars, the 335i is typically 1-3 owners at most where the M3 it is usually 2-4 owners. Mileage big different, M3 are usually sub 90k mis while the 335i usually 110k+

    To compare the 2 is like apples to oranges. I ordered and purchased my M3 E90 new, still have it. I have driven new 335i for a few months. During my M3 ownership. The boosted 335 has more torque. But driving experience between the two is incomparable. The 335 feels like a cheap sporty 3 series pure and simple, almost like a cardboard box on wheels. The M3 just exudes a higher quality build and a sports factor that the 335 can not even achieve after spending more than what the M3 costs originally from the factory. So I completely agree with you x2.

And easily run with or even away from some of my buddies with M3's. I'll take the 335i all day long over a gas guzzling overpriced M3. My 335i feels so much better to drive than the M3 a few of my buddies have.
