Just finished replacing my 2021 ranger’s rear. A tip you may not have mentioned, you’ll need the rewind tool. With my experience you need to place the tool in the caliper and alternate between tightening the nut at the upper portion of the tool and then rotate the handle (counterclockwise for driver’s and clockwise for passenger). Do it a little at a time to completely compress the piston. The pads were tricky, as i had to insert them at almost a 80 degree angle and rotate them into place to make them sit in the bracket. If you’re replacing the rotor, mine was really stuck in there so i took a small 2x4 and placed it against the backside of the rotor and smacked it while rotating the rotor until it popped off. The hand brake does not need adjustment or touching, just make sure you support it so you dont stress the brake lines. Everything else is pretty much standard when it comes to doing brakes
Hey Tony, thanks for the video. I have a question for you. What rear tool is that to compress the caliper who makes it? Can I use a C clamp or channel locks? Thanks buddy appreciate your video.
Did you have to put your range into service rear brake mode to work on the rear brakes or did you just push the piston in with no problem I have a 2021 range XLT
If you have a manual handbrake, just have it released. If you have a electronic handbrake then you will have to put it into a service mode. There's no service mode on the manual release ones
I've changed brakes a few times on my Toyota vehicles and once on my wife's ford escape. Anything I should be aware of for doing the front of my 2021 Ranger? Any specialty tools other than the clamp to compress the brakes?
Front brakes were relatively simple. Piston uses a 13mm (iirc) socket and the hanger uses a 16mm. The hanger was a PITA to unscrew. The piston is a double piston design. I used channel locks and an old pad to compress both pistons simultaneously. I have a 2019 Ranger.
Yeah I'm wondering this too. I see you can't compress them like normal with the old brake pad and you need some specialty tool. What do you mean turning counter/clockwise?
@@aidenhernandez5296 I ended up loaning the caliper reset tool from AutoZone. The piston needs to be turned while it is pressed in, hence the notches on the face of the piston. The drivers side needs to be turned counter clockwise and the passenger clockwise.

COUNTER-clockwise on the driver's rear! you were our hero today.
Glad it helped I could find nothing online so had to share

Saved me so much time with rear driver side. Thank you!
Omg, counter on the rear driver side, saved me big time
Thanks for saving me some time and headache!
Did any fluid spill out of the MC reservoir from compressing the pistons? Should a little be removed till after completion?
Thank you for saving me a lot of time and headache.
Fucking legend. Thank you. Couldn't find any info on which direction the damn pistions are supposed to go. Worse goddamn brake design ever.

I have not done front brakes on mine yet but my understanding is there is nothing special about the front and they are not the twist in calipers

How did you compress the break caliper?

U BORROWED THE CALIPER RESET TOOL, NOT LOANING IT

Great video
THANK YOU
Back brake is drum design???
Ty
Very welcome hope it helped
PRETTY MUCH THE MOST USELESS VIDEO IVE EVER SEEN
