Nice, a Penske truck that isn't stuck under the 11 Foot 8 Inch bridge :D
It's 12'4" now and still takes a nibble now and again.
LMBO!! :-D
You forgot the "+8"
It's been raised and is now the 11foot8+8 bridge. 12'4" is still enough to scrape the top of typical box trucks; but not to can-opener them. Bigger trucks could still be destroyed; but semi drivers who know what they're doing will have a GPS that knows not to send them under low bridges. Which means we'll probably see a SWIFT trailer get destroyed there at some point...
Don't fear, Penske has trucks that are high enough to hit eben an 11 Foot 8+8 Inch bridge ;-)
It's nice to see smaller jobs like this to remind people that not every scene is catastrophic.
The home made side puller was a fantastic idea ! As a retired first responder I appreciate your dedication to safety ! Thank you Ron for outstanding videos !
when I first started driving my dad told me to always beware around U haul trucks because many of them are being operated by folks who have no experience. Good advice I would say. Have a blessed day and be safe.
Hi, recently found your site with its videos. i like the way you film everything and your attitude for the victims is top class. as an ex European driver based in the UK, i am glad to say i never had to be 'recovered' in all my 55 years of driving heavy trucks. i'm 75 now and retired. keep up the good work.
I'm a simple man. I see a Ron Pratt video, I click watch.
Ron.... I am a prolific viewer. I comment occasionally.. towing was always a dream job of mine.. but I physical challenges from birth prevented it. So your channel has always given me a birds eye view of the job.. thank you God Bless, be safe, and keep them coming.
This happens all the time at one of our offices. The driveway goes up a hill at an an angle and we inform anyone making deliveries that they need to approach and enter the driveway southbound or they will get stuck. Inevitably, someone tries to enter northbound and in making the tighter than 90 degree turn into the driveway, their DOT bumper or lift gate always hits the pavement and will put them into the exact same stuck situation as happened here. Lots of gouges in the roadway from previous incidents, but nobody seems to notice and take heed of our instructions....
Thats just ridiculous! You'd think people would geta hint, especially delivery drivers lol.
There's nothing like having the right tools and knowing what you are doing to make a job look simple!
Keep safe Ron.
Those of us with large RVs are aware of dips at the end of a drive. I have never gotten stuck but have dragged a hitch once or twice. In the old days, they use to hook a tow truck onto the back, lift, and pull forward to un-stick them. I've seen it done a few times but you have to have room to move forward. The ability to side-pull is a game changer.
Years ago I had the exact problem. I simply removed air from the front tires then had the driver roll back about 2' then aired it up with my onboard compressor. Within 10 minutes the driver was on his way. I always look for the simplest safest solution first.
Ron to the rescue. Your home made Side Puller again proved to be a valuable piece of equipment to make for an easy job for you. Thanks for sharing.
They need to give a mini-course in "Manuvering a straight truck" when they rent one to a newbie. One rule is "GO SLOW" - especially if it looks like you're running out of ground (or any) clearance. Another is "Bring a spotter" - and use him/her whenever it looks like anything is sketchy.
Last rule is "If all else fails, Call Ron at Midwest Trucks", he'll get you out of a jam with a smile.
Nicely done, and extra points for the handy moveable fairlead.
Have a good one!
Would take Ron a while to get to me, over in Sweden :)
With the right tools on the truck and between the ears, you make it look easy Ron.
It never ceases to amaze me how much these rollbacks are capable of doing! I was thinking the truck would have tipped over, in the absence of outriggers to help stabilize it.
Oh, gracious. I remember my father doing that with a U-Haul truck in Raleigh about 30 years ago. My grandmother's driveway was just about like that, except a little steeper and it was a busy four-lane road. When the bumper started to scrape, he made the mistake of gunning the engine a bit, and one of the wheels ended up about a foot off the ground.
RON HELLO, Going straight in that grade created that problem, But Midwest Truck, saved the day, now if he can remember go up on an angle, then you will be back, now 20;31hours as I am watching this God Bless, stay safe & well out there in MO, We are still on lockdown , need a trip, shape up beard, but they are STILL CLOSED, here, but I must say, both COSTCO & my SHOP-RITE supermarket are getting MOST stock in them now. Cheers From NJ, USA🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I love the fact that I got to see you use the homemade side puller. I remember commenting that you should build one some time last year or so. That was one of the best things I welded up using stuff from Harbor Freight and it made the job so much easier, especially when you work on major highways and expressways and you don't have to shut down a lane to do a recovery. Stay safe Ron.
Funny ron had the exact same call today a lift gate stuck on the pavemont from a box truck entering a driveway,i love how guys will beat the truck instead of waiting for a pull
Amazing......the video is 21 minutes old and over 2000 of us just sitting around waiting with our coffee for Ron to post a video.🤗
That side puller you invented was right smart! Truly it is something pretty ingenious!
The side puller is handier than pockets on a shirt!
Ron, I always appreciate how you show "everyone" respect. Always impressed how strong those wire ropes are.
I've been watching the college kids with their rental trucks moving at my building. You have no idea how I want to get up and go outside and say, let me back it and park it for you. Several have come close to hitting other vehicles.
I drive tractor trailer When you see these rental trucks coming down the road U run the other way Scary ass drivers
i have wanted to say that to one of the delivery drivers that brings produce to the resturant i work at. i have licence for driving commercial trucks.
I'll back it in $20 a pop
Thomas Telling hello, here in NJ, your car drivers license , covers you to 18.000lbs, STRAIGHT BODY, NOT TRACTOR TRAILERS,. CHEERS FROM NJ 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thomas Telling. Quite an accomplishment.
I like that stake pocket winch mount idea. The best ideas come from experience and are very simple.
Ron, Just make sure you patent/license it so you get paid for your great idea!
Its already been done, Ron just made is own.... And I dont blame him, its pretty simple.
It makes a change seeing a Penske truck NOT having it`s roof ripped off under the 11ft 8` bridge lol
A nice little job too keep you on your toes, each job big or small needs different ideas & brain power and that is the fun part of the job never the same.
yorkie pudd it’s a nice change isn’t it
The first row in towing is a great rule for driving, whenever I park my car I think "How will I get out of here"
Another thing to think about. If you can back in, you can always pull out. The reverse may not always be true. Especially for a vehicle towing something.
I drove a car without reverse for awhile, so every turn was planned with "how will I get out of here," Ever parking spot, drive way, and just anywhere. Hills were always the easiest because if I planned correctly, I had gravity reverse.
I love the urgency with which you do everything. Inspiring. Exhausting.
How neat is that! Experience shows right there, no fuss and has a side pull setup...so cool.
Sometimes the simple calls are interesting too. Another welcome distraction as we sit home. Thank you Mr Pratt.
It's been years since I've rented a moving van. I didn't know that they rented units with air brakes these days. As always, be safe and God bless.
I noticed that. I think, but don't know for sure, that you have to have a CDL (or other special license, depending on what state) to drive a truck with air brakes. That makes me think it's not just two guys renting a truck to move, but that's what they looked like. Maybe you can drive a rental truck under 26,000 in Missouri with air brakes with no CDL.
On the Ryder trucks I e rented, it’s air assisted hydraulic brakes so no CDL required.
I have recently invested in some collapsible traffic cones and I highly recommend them organization of the rig the great space savers!
And God bless!
That little side puller contraption you made is awesome. Enjoy your videos, stay safe!!!
What a smart and innovative invention you made. I am impressed Ron. That was an easy job with no overhead wires or rain. Loved watching. From the state of Georgia.
Poor guy. Just trying to get his stuff. Not even thinking that a hill would sabatage his day. At least towman Ron was able to remove one more worry from his move. As a mover(& tow recovery recovery fan) I say thanks to you and the tow brotherhood for all the work you do.
That's also a a neat creative way to get some side pulling action with a rollback.
Been watching and subscribed a long time now. Really enjoy the front row seat to all the recoverys. Blessings. Peace. Joy. ... And safe travels to you.
You need to get a patent on that side puller. That is an amazing tool. Great work on it. Protect that invention. Great pull out. Without your tool it could of taken longer. You are truly excellant!💯
Ron this is the best set up I have seen in any recovery. Simple set up equals amazing results. You are so bright I bet your parents call you son. 😆
I plan on getting CDLs and considered trying to get a wrecker and training to respond to accidents until I learned my state will not let wreckers have sirens and horns. I love watching your channel and always find your work to be very interesting.
The winch on any off-road vehicle could have unstuck the box truck! I wonder why nobody thought to do that? Good thing Ron has had years of experience, and a home made side puller handy! :D
I like how methodical you are even on the bigger jobs when you finish with a tool you don’t put it down for a sec it goes right back where it’s suppose to. Good way not to lose anything
Glad to finally get a really good view of the side puller in action. I can see why it is so handy.
Hello Ron, yet again another video showing how professional you are. Great job. Thanks for sharing and you, your family and staff continue to stay safe 😷.
Just discovered the channel and this seemed like the last thing I’d be into, but I’m obsessed with watching your vids man😂 you seem a good guy and great worker. Cool to see the different types of work forces out there. Keep it up!
You should watch the code 3 response videos he does. I've watched 75% of Ron's videos. Just sit down, and watch them all day. Pretty relaxing ngl
Ron Pratt is probably the most respectful, humble and professional man that I have even seen in his profession. Welcome to the team. :-)
I like Ron's channel best of the tow channels I've come across because he explains everything he's doing, and he's accepting of his non-religious viewers too. If this is the first of his videos you've seen you will see what I mean when he has to respond to some serious accident.
I really like that side pull attachment. A lot better than a simple redirect off the deck. Perhaps Miller should look into adding that as an option. A suggestion for a design mod - make the top of the frame with the top roller a gate. That would eliminate removing the roller and feeding the end of the cable through, just open the gate, drop in the cable anywhere along its length and close the gate.
Its always a good way to start the morning with a Ron Pratt video. Keep up the good work and stay as safe as you can out there.
I'd love to live in the same state as you. I'd get in trouble tho, because I'd be calling you all the time, no emergencies; to just hang out. You're a good man.
I worked at a loading dock and when I got a job where we basically free unloaded out in front of the building I spent a lot of time getting people angled up properly. We had hill in front of the place and plenty of narrow turns, many times we just parked them in the street and made the cars go around, When I didn't catch the drivers in time though they'd use the GPS and you could follow the trail of destruction, tree limbs, basketball hoops, mailboxes. Country living!
This homemade side puller attachment you created is a great invention
Love the way you preserve the critical angle into the winch drum. That side puller is an AWESOME tool for a rollback.
A Penske not stuck under an 11 foot 8 is the same as a FedEx not being involved in an Interstate pile up. Yet another good video Ron.
This brings back memories from the 90s when I got my rental truck stuck in the same way.
Yeah when u got in that straight pull position I knew u were gonna box yourself in. Glad u noticed quickly. I like that homemade side pull attachment. God Bless
That chain to help the cable/wire rope spool right also keeps the side puller from ripping out the pocket on the bed of rollback.
Short and sweet easy pull with the side puller hope you your family and the Midwest crew have a good day and weekend keep staying safe out there
Love the way you don't rush but you don't waste any time either.
Thanks Ron. Your videos save my sanity during this covid mess. Always a job well done. God Bless!
Watched another channel with a similar ‘tator to yours, Ron. Had my heart in my mouth all the way through as their safety protocols were non-existent. Not for the faint hearted so I’ll stick with you guys!!
Good job on your side job winch fairlead. Glad you used the snatch block to not put to much on the side roller of the fairlead. I had a coworker who tried to pull a F350 dually out putting the winch cable about 50 to 60 degrees on the right side roller causing the metal the roller is pinned through to being bent causing the retainer clip to break. The side rollers are really not designed to carry a bunch of weight .
I love you videos keep up the good work all the way from Scotland uk
abnormally easy compared to many I have seen from you :)
best wishes
stay blessed
“Ain’t no mountain high enough,
Ain’t no valley deep enough,
Ain’t no pavement strong enough
To keep me from-a-pullin’ this truck!”
I love the geometry of Ron's sets.
My dad did same thing with a 26’ U-Haul truck. We had to have towed out. My friend driveway is like that little hill, I didn’t get stuck or scrap the road with a 18’ Penske truck but was close plus I backed into the driveway from angle.
Every job is different, which is probably why you enjoy doing this and we enjoy watching. Would a centre line painted up the tippy truck bed make it easier to get the winch cable lined-up for a straight pull? Another gorgeous sunny day here in Edinburgh, and just in time for being a bit less locked-down.
I've been asking for a video or answer to the advantages of a side puller. Good example. Thank ya.
Way to go Ron. I love your homemade Gadget. It did an awesome job. God bless you and your family
Good job Ron! Fast and efficient.
Love those ones where it takes ya longer to set up.than do the pull!!
Enjoy your videos; this was the most straightforward of any of the others I have watched. I am trying to figure out how this would get any downvotes(currently 29); guess there will always be haters.
Another great job done by you Ron.your the best in any situation.
Just open yard sale and watching another great video from Ron. That one was a easy recovery, need them once in a while. 👍👍
Another job well done. I thoght for sure you would need the peat 1524 to get just a bit if lift on it, but hey the roll back with the side puller worked GREAT.
4:28 My rollback brings all the boys to the yard...
Hey Ron I think it would be super helpful to everyone watching if you could let us know what people should expect to pay if they need to hire someone for one of the jobs you are doing. I know you always respect the customers privacy so you couldn't tell us exactly what you charged, but people getting a rough idea of some of these more common tow jobs costs could save people from getting ripped off. Love the videos man, keep it up.
Pricing is usually from, "Oh that's not bad" to " Oh my God, I'll need to rob a bank". Seriously, many times the pricing depends on the vehicle being towed, how far away it is and what needs to be done to recover it. A simple quick pull in my area runs about $100.00 with no more than a 20 mile round trip. However if you need a big wrecker the price goes way up quick. One place I know get's $500.00 just to start the engine and move the wrecker. Then it's so much a mile and charges for each piece of equipment like straps/chains/bags used.
May be a silly job for Ron but I am thinking about the driver, how frustrating moments he might've gone through. And hatsoff for the quick remedial approach.
Ron you certainly get some crazy call outs, what looks simple in the beginning always turns into a bit of a teaser....💖🇦🇺Australia
Good Afternoon My Good Friend Ron Pratt Sir & God Bless You & All Of You're Whole Family This Afternoon From You're Good Friend Timbo White
That's a nice homemade side pull attachment, GREAT VIDEO Thanks William Orange county, ca.
Would've been a good job for the In The Ditch SP9000 SidePuller, it'd be cool if Ron took a look at it and gave his thoughts. It'd make a nice addition to the fleet!
Anyone else notice at the beginning of the video the spot where he's pulled a car and a motorcycle out of that little creek? Seem to remember a lot of mud there once.
All mud and a really long reach.
That side puller is pretty resourceful.
Nice! Love the guide roller attachment idea.
That is a pretty neat idea you had Ron. And it worked like a charm. God bless, my friend.
Approach and depart angles. We don't think of them enough.
I did that with a 53 ft trailer once.
There is a new subdivision in my town. Driveways are longer and steeper the your job. Fire chief said the fire trucks will hang the rear bumper on road going up to a fire call.
I like all your videos very educational. Thank you and God bless
Always leave yourself an out! That goes for pulling anything large too. I pull a 45 foot 5th wheel RV. When driving into someplace like a parking lot or campground, I'm not just looking for how to get in, but how I'm going to get out the next day.
I had to come down to the wrecking yard like 2:30am or so .rookie move droped a car with no room to get out also he didn't send bed all the way out. He was stuck. Once the car was off loaded his edge of bed was higher than the bumper . Lol with the use of the jack was my go to tool. Master Ron once again .got to create one for jerr dan aluminum bed I have 3/4 in rails ?
Love the videos Ron. Slow down Ron give yourself more thinking time, more haste less speed. I noticed you didn't chock wheels or check brakes before you went under truck. be safe my friend
when setting up the chains , no need as the truck wasn't going anywhere ... but yeah when breaking down the gear
All the setup work for 10 seconds of actual pulling, but that's what it takes to do things right. Nice easy one for ya today. ;)
Nice , Always a pleasure watching your videos ,Thanks Ron
I've done that with the RV. The ass swings up and down as much as it does side to side. In my case, it was the drop foot on the trailer -- so unbolt it and I can go again; that last bolt gets a little iffy. :-)
It's a short video but such an important lesson for everyone.
Hey Ron I love your modified fairlead, try putting a bevel on the tip so you don't have to fuss so much putting it back especially if it's dark and messy. Just a thought... Love your videos
Thanks Ron
For intelligent entertainment
11:13 Got a little rocking motion there Ron! Keep up the good work and stay safe 👍
There's a slope like that about 100 yards from a local mini storage that people think they can turn rental trucks around in.
I make a lot of money in that spot.
90% preparation, 10% doing.
A nice easy job! No mud, no trees, no Armco or wires or overheads!
You make it look easy, Ron!
You needed one of those Staples Office buttons that say "That Was Easy" when you push it, on this run.
