Since supp is stored as a variable with letters (VC) R automatically recognized it as a factor. However Dose is stored as a string variable since it is a number (1.0) so it must be declared as a factor. However you could still declare the supp as a factor. It wouldn’t hurt.

Can I ask why you don’t put factor(supp) as well as the factor(dose) ?
