  • There are big plans in the work for the City of Clearwater’s downtown area. The city has their vision and so does the Church of Scientology.

      Clearwater resident here. Didn't realize Scientology was down here till a few months after I got here. Went to downtown clearwater a couple weeks ago, hasn't changed one bit from this video. Ghost town with no-one down there other than church members getting on/off busses, and maybe a couple homeless people. Weird place, there is a reason I avoid it.

      No mysterious believes, just made up gobledeegook, the story being Hubbard was looking for an easy way to pilfer money. Of course, genuine established religions need money to exist.

    • @omgsolikevalleygirl
      @omgsolikevalleygirl 2 года назад

      it received tax exempt "religion status" by pressuring and blackmailing the IRS - for the organisation that legal status is enough to claim they are a "religion". The problem isn"t so much in the beliefs or the stories, but in the fact that vindictiveness, paranoia, totalitarian power-hunger and a lot of other the really unpleasant and abusive character traits are baked into the doctrine. There is always backdoors open to "destroy someone utterly", label people "suppressuve persons" and "fair game" to abuse in whatever way desired - but also within the organisation there is an abusive "ethics" program that punishes sustaining doubts about the organisation with forced labor and family idsconnection.
      Alltogether the planet wouid be nicer if it could just be dissolved.

    They own half the town? How is that not showing a desire to run things in the city? Call their bluff, and ask them to sell at least a quarter of their TAX EXEMPT properties.
    I have been on vacation once in Clearwater. I decided, after watching the HBO doc and conducting my own research, that I will not step foot there again. I don't know exactly what they own, and I feel like the revenue I spend goes to expanding their cult.

      @@DaveWard-xc7vd What's the difference between a main business and a side business for a church that is tax exempt? Why shouldn't they all pay taxes on income, in the first place? Church-State Separation keeps the state safe from religions that want to practice mind control and destroy free speech. Once churches start owning businesses they start abusing their power and collude with politicians against the public - those people who actually DO pay taxes.
      How is it fair for a church owned business that gets customers using roads, and police enforcement - paid for with OTHER people's taxes, to NOT pay taxes, themselves?

    The problem isn't Scientology. The problem is that freehold ownership itself, regardless of who owns the land, is an inherently rivalrous institution, a civil war.
    Make these titles leasehold, pay the rent out to the residents of Clearwater, and two things are likely to happen: (1) Nobody will any longer care if the Church continues to own the land, because they're being compensated, and (2) The church is not likely to want to continue holding so much productive land idle, since doing so will cause them to perpetually bleed money.

  • @nowankersallowed2115
    @nowankersallowed2115 4 года назад

    Good for you David.. at least your making attempts to clear the air ...science is important.. listening to the people of the area is important.
    I just hope that if the church continues it is with a freer approach to come and see what you are about without the enforcement that has seemingly been. This isn't just Scientology.. that's why I try and reiterate they are not the only church with these issues.
    I can see a lot of potential within Scientology if it's understood and clearly laid out what they are really about .. to have healthy relationship with the community definetly improves life for all involved.
    A willingness to make yourself accountable to the community and the leaders within governing bodies would certainly bring an ease I'm sure.
    To look at religious practices as a whole and the potential and very real threats and issues that can go with that I do believe is important..
    To acknowledge that the past is what it is and while that can't be changed .. changes can be made to the future of the way things are run.
    I actually don't believe Hubbard was all bad. That is being honest about that.
    For it to be understood about the scientific community .. it needs to continually be addressed about what they are about.. getting the local community involved where possible to get excited and see the everyday benefits of science..
    In such a place as this, social science, food science, environmental science, all have valid reasons to become excited about science because it can help improve and protect their environment..
    Science is exciting.. it is everyday practical application that people don't neccesarily think about yet use it.
    For those who believe in God the acknowledgement of the benefits of science isn't a sin at all. If working with the Christian churches to show yes we care and are willing to use science to help prove or disprove any biblical statement or claims made outside of that could be very beneficial.
    Archaeology and historical analysis is important within history anyway but also for the Christian people or Jewish people.
    I wasn't lying when I said I do love science. I just don't always understand the jargon..
    Showing how even in every day human interaction a scientific approach can help to address any issues because there had to be a biological reaction within interaction with another person.
    Science can help improve relationship and it can also help improve the sexual relationship when it's allowed to be discussed in a mature way. Both people in and out of churches can have difficulties in those areas.
    So long as it's willing participation and clearly stated what it's about.. what's expected on both sides, then it could be a very positive thing indeed.
    Personally I thank that I have been allowed to see the things I have and consider possiblity within that.
    That's why I am trying to be more respectful now because I have been allowed to have a right to speak freely.
    I don't believe I am an illogical person when treated with respect.
    I just don't like to be controlled.

      Scientology isn't based on Science, but the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard, a chrismatic, larger than life, prolific science fiction writer who was highly controversial. Parishoners pay in the $100,000s to rid themselves of the ghosts of traumatised aliens dropped into volcanos by an evil alien emperor billions of years ago, which they believe gives them super powers to control minds, heal themselves, or even kill with just their minds. They think psychology is evil and behind such horrors as the holocaust, as they dismissed Hubbard's "breakthoughs" as nonsense, they don't believe in college education (since they have all the answers), have used child labor, and those who leave are cut off from all friends and family.
