Oxytricha

Oxytricha is a single-celled critter, swimming around in ponds and munching on algae. Despite its microscopic size, it boasts a complex internal life. Unlike most single-celled organisms, Oxytricha has a surprisingly complex genome, chopped up into thousands of tiny chromosomes. One of the interesting features of its DNA is a modification called 6mA, which is also being studied in humans to understand its potential role in health and disease.
