+Cecilia Marie I am glad I was able to help. Thank you for taking the time to comment. Positive comments like this help me keep motivated and making more helpful videos. :-)
Thank you so much, this is literally the only video I found to actually explain what those mean, this was not even gone over in a commercial photography class I took years ago, so glad I found your video.
Very helpful. Believe it or not, I used it to understand the meaning of the different jpeg icons on my new Canon R5. I searched around a lot and could not find any good explanation of the difference between the jpeg icons with the jagged side and the one with the smooth side. Now I know that one is compressed and the other is not. Much appreciated!
Thank you for simplifying this for me! I know nothing about photography but bought a Canon T6 to take photos for my jewelry business and my daughter's vlog. Baby steps... lol!
Thank you for your quick, efficient and to the point video. I REALLY appreciated being able to get the information provided without alot of fluff:) I LOVE when that happens. Thanks a bunch for doing what you do.
Thanks for the tutorial. I was always intimidated by these settings so this was a breath of fresh air. Also many tutorials speak of shooting in raw but never show us how to get there, thanks! ;-)
Looking for a easy to understand tutorial for changing the settings on your Canon DSLR from Jpeg to RAW, or just want to understand the Jpeg quality options a little more. In this video I show you how to do just that and explain the difference in the Jpeg options listed in your Canon camera. #dslr #camera #photography #tutorial #tutorials #how_to #howto #beginners #photo #tips #techniques #learn #digital #canon #rebel #raw #jpeg #setup
Thanks for that...i am new to the picture world. Couldnt get cr2 or raw pics to open on my computer. It was such a hassle but thod really helped alot. Awesome tutorial!
Hi, thank you so much for this! I just had a question about changing the already shot jpeg images to raw - is there a way to do that? I still have all the images I need in higher resolutions on my camera. Please help! Thank you once again!
I’ve never shot in RAW before, but I read it’s recommended for pictures of snow. Thanks for making this so easy and quick. Do u rec RAW for snow pics? I do more landscape pics. Not into portrait but of course will do some for Christmas
Excellent video and demonstration on raw / jpeg choices and sizes. Here is my question---why do they continue to make cameras with jpeg? It seems so obsolete and pointless because the quality shot is in the raw function...
Many people like Sports, wildlife and journalist use Jpeg. Sports and Wildlife photogs use it because of the amount of photos that can fit into the cameras buffer. 30 raw vs 120 Jpeg for example. Journalist use it because they will not be retouching the photos and want it to be ready to send for publishing as soon as possible. Hope this helps.
Tks. Didn’t know what the jagged edge of the L was. Question: if I use the more compressed version of the Large file setting( the one with the jagged edge) in order to have more space on the card, can I improve the more compressed image quality by boosting the sharpness number in the picture profile?
Love it !! One question, my canon 700d when I select raw only shows that I can take only 3 photos …. Any suggestions about sd card??? I have 16gb and other with 32gb.. should I buy a 64 or 128?? Please help 😂
Thank you now I completely understand but my issue is after taking raw pictures it’s hard for me to print them and I hate doing manually convert any tips on that
I am working an event that I am required to shoot with a Filesize size set to around 1.5mb compressed JPEG. How do i make this adjustment in camera (Canon R6)
Hi I have a couple of Samsung mirrorless and I can shot 30 second 12920 X 1080 footage on Fine and the file size is around 50MB - if I try and use the canon dslr (Rebel 1200d) - the best I can get is well a lot bigger than 50MB - is there optimum settings on these canon dslrs to keep file size to a minimum
Love it my dude! Thanx, I haven’t read the manual, I’m so damn lazy! Argh! Woohoo, I can get RAW & JPEG with a single click?! 🥰 Just for that I’m subscribing! 😁👍
+Camera Noob I really need to look into getting some larger ones myself. I normally just get 32's, but I have one 64. I should get some 64's.. To paranoid to put all my eggs into one basket... :-)
+Joe's Photo & Video Channel I hear ya, I guess I don't need the large ones, but I once did get caught with a 16 and ran out of room. Was such a bummer.
Thank you... I have problem with my raw convertion, which after appears like a cropped negative image.. is it really the SD card that matters for this issue??
Jobert Espino Very good question. To shoot in RAW you can use any speed of SD card. The only aid a faster SD card will give is letting the camera empty the buffer faster. So no matter what the speed or size of your card, you can always shoot in RAW. Hope this helps..
I have looked EVERYWHERE to find a video explaining this. THANK YOU!!

I have a canon 80d..what do I do for the best image quality ? Raw or jpeg ??? Please help !
Always RAW, but you have to edit your photos in the computer. If you dont like to edit, stick with Jpeg.
I do edit on Photoshop...but thanks! Ill do RAW from now on!
very neat ! Thanks
+mahabubur rahman Thank you.

I searched this for a long while explaining this.
Very helpful. Thank you
Thank you! You helped a lot! 😉👏
Thank you. This really helped me.🙂
can you shoot both and then extract RAW from the camera only? or you separate them in LR?
When we use raw?
Nice video Joe. I never understood what that number in the ( ) was now I do. I use a 128 and 256 cards so mine is always at (9999).
+Camera Noob I really need to look into getting some larger ones myself. I normally just get 32's, but I have one 64. I should get some 64's.. To paranoid to put all my eggs into one basket... :-)

+Jobert Espino My apologies but do not understand your question. I use Adobe Lightroom to import all my RAW files off my SD Cards.
+Joe's Photo & Video Channel Sorry, I mean When shooting a Raw image does it reaquire a correct SD card? like what megabites/sec?
Jobert Espino Very good question. To shoot in RAW you can use any speed of SD card. The only aid a faster SD card will give is letting the camera empty the buffer faster. So no matter what the speed or size of your card, you can always shoot in RAW. Hope this helps..
