Well, Optimus did lose faith in humanity between DOTM and AOE. Basically, the disbandment of NEST, the creation of Cemetery Wind, and the humans' betrayal, plus deaths of Autobots such as Leadfoot, Sideswipe, and Ratchet would probably be more than enough to justify his newfound bitterness.

It's a funny line, but it's actually what lost me in the last film. They turned Prime into a rage-filled killing machine.

I don't think it's Bay's fault cause after he finished DOTM, he actually didn't want to director anymore Transformer films afterwards, but because Hasbro and Paramount insisted he do 4 and 5, they gave him the money, and he agreed.
