    A United 757 (N507UA) has finished it's passenger life (1990-2013) and has been converted into a freighter. A full repaint is required. It takes about 10-14 days. 757-222(SF) N770FD with PW2037 engines.

    Watching the hangar floor and sheet plastic etc I wonder how many hundreds of pounds of oversprayed coatings are involved in this process...

    Do they spray aircraft stripper on to the plane to remove the old paint?

    The initial section that is green, is that a completely new section for a loading door? Or do they weld a loading door into the existing section?

    • @mcdonnellsinc
      @mcdonnellsinc 3 года назад +4

      the green section is the prefabricated main cargo door with structural reinforcements for the crown and lower forward and aft floor sections. it is "spliced" (drilled and riveted) to the original skin. the original skin where the new door is, was cut off and scraped.

    No wonder United pilots quit United and went to FedEx, they were 757 pilots.

      outside?....how do they secure them?

    • @danielhawley6817
      @danielhawley6817 3 года назад +1

      It's essentially a metal (aluminum) version of the plexiglas window and since it's won't be removed again, it's riveted in place. The plug is bigger than the hole, no worry about it coming loose or blowing out. The 777 and 767 freighters were/are built with no window, lighter and no maintenance.

      I think at the airframe modification stage they replace the glass with aluminum and pretend the window was never there
