The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Mad respect for him literally moving out of the way during the guitar solo and just making the eye contact with the band. He had such mad respect for the guys behind him and that’s such a big thing in my opinion.
Scott Moore practically invented rock and roll guitar playing
@@thezenitsufan1249 Sister Rosetta Tharpe I would say, but Scotty's playing definitely revolutionized the rockabilly sound
You can tell that by their smiles that they respected him. Works both ways.
@@thezenitsufan1249 That’s a very bold statement
@@matban9082 Yeah I was going to say Sister Rosetta Thorpe had been killing the electric guitar way before Scotty Moore. Both are legends though l

109% correct.
Elvis's sound back then was LITERALLY the fusion of white country with black rhythm and blues, REVELATORY and innovative.
But unfortunately, today's left-wing democrat party lies about everything, including elvis presley, simply because he was white.
I am 75 And believe me there never has been anyone with the charisma of Elvis
Topo Gigio had it too, but he was overexposed on The Ed Sullivan Show.
I am already 78 and I couldn't agree more. I was a fan of Elvis since 1954, when I was 11. I was proud having all single Elvis' records available at that time.
@@wingsflying43 I’m 78 also and I agree. My first 45 was Don’t Be Cruel.

I love Elvis but there are some other musicians who share the throne with him. They are just as big frankly speaking. They are just different but they are all parts of the whole thing with many edges. You know they are titans of music with many faces

It doesn’t matter what decade or year it is, this performance is simply electrifying. The incredible charisma of the King, the tasteful original sound of Scotty Moore’s guitar, the exciting rhythm of Bill and DJ. If you don’t get a sense of excitement from this, then you’re really missing out!
You're right. It doesn't matter what decade this is. He IS electrifying. We can appreciate the filming of this, and maybe some enhancement to bring out the best contrast. It's incredible, it's so old, and all comes out sparkling here.
@@SpeegBJ well said. It would be interesting to see what could be done with the original footage without making it look too clinical and digital.

Totally agree
one of the best Elvis performances I've ever seen, Among the 10 best rock performances
I would agree except this is just typical Elvis. Not even something special for him. Routine.
Elvis' performance of "Hound Dog" on The Milton Berle Show would have to rank as Number One. It was that performance - Elvis' first performance without a guitar in hand - that really launched Elvis. Teens loved him, adults did not.

I never paid too much attention to Elvis as I was growing up, but as I watch him now, I am as impressed with him as I have been with anyone. Decades and still Elvis is the king of rock
Elvis always had great players on stage with him that didn't get enough credit. Scotty Moore here and later James Burton in the '70s are two absolute legends, along with Elvis.
And he was so gorgeous. Along with his musical talent he was soooo good looking. Very handsome indeed!!
This is my favourite Elvis TV performance of the 1950s. He was having a lot of fun. I’m glad this full version has been released.
Elvis Presley was unique. He took R & B, Country, pop, and gospel, - and mixed them together like no one else had ever done. His first songs illustrates this, as he took a R & B song for the A side and a Country song for the B side. He did the same with his second single, but the B side was a cover of a 1950 [I’m sure it was 1950] pop song. It was different, very different.
I have seen some comments about Elvis “whitewashing blues.” He did not. What he did was to mix his influences together and make it his own - and he was the most successful, the most influential artist of all time.
While I like Arthur Crudap’s original version of That’s Alright more than Elvis’, I like his version of Good Rockin’ Tonight better than the original. And so it goes - it’s always a matter of personal taste.
Yes, Elvis was having fun. He was quite humorous. We see it in number of performances. Nice to see it was that way.
Well said, appreciate your comment
