Something my hero, Peter Coyote, said a lot of years ago is one of those things that hit home and affected my life. Stewart Brand was on a book tour, concerned about how stiff he was in television interviews. Peter Coyote told him to shift his focus: "It's not what you do; it's what you do next." You don’t need to control the moment cause there’s always the next moment to compensate for it. It was a graphic lesson about how "sitting with whatever comes up" is the place to be.
Richard, thank you so much for having Peter Coyote on for this discussion. I have long been an admirer of his professional work and appreciate his social and political insights. I agree that we are truly nearing an existential moment in our nation's history perhaps in our global history. I'm definitely going to check out Bad Faith.
Fantastic interview and well worth the time but this is the common interview problem. How many will get the full message and listen for over an hour! I firmly believe most discussion points and details can be covered in 30 minutes. Even we, who are sympathetic and aligned with Peter's view, had to move on after 35 minutes. If moderators would clock and direct conversations, more would be said in less time.
And now here we are after the election and Trump won. I would love to hear what Peter has to say about the current situation. A lot of people voted against democracy. :(
French intervened because they resonated with the aspirations of the farers. So the The US exists because of aspirations of the few who were daring enough to revolt.
@@Michael-k8v3z That's a romantic way to characterize it. The French saw a way to get revenge after having lost the Seven Years War, the war we call the French Indian War. The US rebels did not have the power to overthrow British rule. They required French intervention. And let's face it our ancestors who fought in the War of Independence were scounderols and backstabbers. We teamed up with the French who had traditionally been our enemy. We fissioned off from the Great Britain. Our legal system still references English common law. We are basically republican Britain. Then we backstabbed them. Jefferson supported the French Revolution. That's how we said thank you.

Very engaging conversation. Thank you.

The US exists because the French intervened. This idea that a bunch of farmers beat the British Army is incorrect.

Why do you charge 99 cents for watching the film "Bad Faith"?
It's a token amount. Maybe they need to recoup expenses.
@@tracyrreed but if 10 million people watch it, they don't need 10 million dollars for recharging their batteries.
@@gmmaal7161 Do you really think 10 million people will watch it? They can always make it free once they have gotten what they need.
