Well I've only used 3 so far - rose kaolin, white Kaolin and bentonite (in combo with my pumice to make a kick ass degreasing mechanic soap that works like Dawn). I went on all the sites last night to find the French green, rhassoul, anything but it's sold out like, everywhere 😫
Amazon has it all in a pinch! I actually love this version of green as well. I had to come back to watch this, for a relesson on clays in soaps. I'm thinking of adding clay bars to my skin care line. I've had customers ask for facial bar soaps. So, I remembered you'd done this and wanted to see how much to add to a bar! Well, on certain clays Id think half that amount would work. It was great to have this video to have to come back too. Thanks for having the jazz out there to reflect upon! Jill
Thank you, I appreciate your content. I haven't made my first bar of soap although, I have got the pork & beef grease through the clarification process 7 times now and it's wrapped up and sitting in the freezer, waiting for the rest of the ingredients. I have a cousin with a microbrewery so I'll use one of his beers and I'd like to put a clay in it, too.
Thank you so much for making this video! I knew of Maybe 3 of the types of clay that you mentioned in addition to the activated charcoal but I didn't know about the rest of these. Rest of these. I really loved this video this was so informative and so helpful! I really appreciate everything that you do and how informative and thorough you are in all of your videos!
You have no idea how long ive been looking for a video like this. You answered all my clay questions. I can't thank you enough!! This was such an informative video and i can't wait to try out these other clays! Thankyou!!! Sending love and support!
Can I ask is there a clay I can use for my son who has try soaps for be o but he has sensitive skin at all I use melt and pour and would like to make him something plz thank u for ur time Tina 🥰
im surprised you didnt burn your hands washing with them after only 1 day of curing 3 weeks is safer...also do you have soft water or hard water? there is a HUGE difference in the lather and cleaning power.
Ha! That, my friend, is a very common misconception in the soaping world. Most soap is 100% safe to use within 24 hours after pouring - saponification (when the lye and the oils do their mixey mix thing) doesn’t take 3 weeks and is complete within a few hours or at most 2 days for a few recipes. The cure is not for safety, but for bar hardness as it’s losing its water weight. I did a number of videos on that, diving into the chemistry of it all - check them out for more info! :)
Hi, I have a question to ask regarding placing the soap in the oven. If you make a pound or loaf of soap, say one that is 10 bars or 42oz, and it is made in the morning, do you place it in the oven straight after it is poured or do you leave it until the end of the day and leave it in the oven overnight? If you do put it in the oven straight away, in the morning, how long for? 😊
Hi! I put it in the oven right away and leave it until the next day, adding more batches as the day progresses. Because we make so many batches of soap in a day, we have to reheat the oven multiple times throughout, and so the earliest batch of the day is the one that’s exposed to heat the longest.
Hi, I was just wondering, do you adjust your amount of oil or water when adding clay to your soap recipes? I have a 52oz wooden soap mould and I want to add white kaolin clay to 70% olive oil, 20% coconut oil, 10% castor oil. I am also wondering if this would be ok or too soft a soap to make as a first soap? 😊💜🧼Jennifer
Hey! I don’t adjust my water when adding clay - I tend to soap most of my soaps at 2x lye with between a 3-7% superfat. What you’re making is basically a bastille soap, which I LOVE and they don’t tend to take too long to harden and get out of the mold, especially if you add clay. Have fun!

Do you have any advice on the possibility of using clays as a mild exfoliant in a lotion bar?
great video love the infomation you passed along...what are the properties of french purple clay?
Thanks for all the useful information, now I know I can really play with the amounts of clay per recipe.
I just bought the French Green and the Rhassoul. I'm getting very excited for playing with clays.
I actually mixed my Rhassoul with Hemp oil and it worked much better.
Totally! Mixing clays with oils can absolutely help them incorporate better with the heavier clays.
Oh wow! 314 days! I have to catch up!! So many clay options! I can’t wait to experiment!

What’s the maximum temperature for hot 🥵 process soap to reach? Without burning the oils
Can pottery clay be used in soap making? I just wondered because kaolin specifically is quite plentiful. Thanks!
What an instructive and fun video. Thank you

Can I add these to melt and pour for natural color purposes? Mixing it with alcohol
You bet! You can use clays in melt and pour with either alcohol or glycerin, or directly into your melted base, depending on the type of Clay.
@@MrsSoapAndClay thank you. You are awesome!

I’m on such a huge fullers earth kick right now, I’m reformulating my mud mask line so it can take center stage. 😍
Such a cool video! Thanks! Do you notice soda ash with such a high amount of clay or do you usually cpop and do steep water discount?
I CPOP all of my soaps and very rarely do water discounts. Alcohol spritz, cover, oven, and we almost never get soda ash. :)

I remember you did a similar video earlier on the channel and was hoping you still had the bars so you could show us how the lather changed on a harder bar 😆😆😆. Anyways, what’s the deal with purple Brazilian clay?
Purple Brazilian will perform most like kaolin clay in a soap. Very similar clay, for sure, and great for basically all skin types!
could you use alcohol to mix the clay?
Will all of these work well with MP?
You can absolutely put clays in melt and pour! Some actually increase the lather as well. The lighter weight ones. :)
@@MrsSoapAndClay thank you so much. I just got some in today and I am excited to try it
Have you used Russian Blue Clay?
I sure have! Love it!
Great video thanks
When kaolin clay is used in cold process soap
When is it used? I mean, I use a tub load of it in all cold process recipes!
I wish you had scrapped each container to make one mixed clay bar 💯

Eggggcellent, pings finger tips together 🥰🤣
What if you have sensitive skin and acne?
Clays are great for both things! Just gotta be careful with which clays you choose.
@@MrsSoapAndClay What soap would you recommend for someone that has both?
Kaolin, red clays, and activated charcoal do well with both.
