- Former U.S. Ambassador Victor Manuel Rocha spent decades spying for Cuba. Before Rocha there was Ana Montes, a Pentagon analyst who spent 17 years spying for Cuba.

The Puerto Ricans I have known, have pride, they love their country and not happy with the way US treats them. I think that is the reason why they welcome Montes so warmly.

Polygraph? Polygraph results are highly debatable, and have been known to be manipulable by many. The interviewer might have well asked why didn't we give her a truth serum, or try The Lasso of Truth on her.

This troubles and saddens me. We imagine our values to be strong and self-evident. I do anyway. I find it so easy to be inspired by our freedoms, our adaptability, our history. For some people, however,, these values , these stories are down far on their lists. I don't get it. ..
It shouldn't be hard to understand when our gov and intel agencies don't exactly live up to our values and ideals. What if you came of age as a citizen of one of the numerous Latin American countries whose democratically elected leaders were overthrown by US funded coup d'etats led by repressive strongmen coimpliant to US policy interests. You'd have a very different impression of what US "freedom" means when it comes at the expense of your freedom. To the rest of the world the lasting impression would be the hypocrisy.

When the government is hiring people for these highly classified positions, you really have to look at the individual in their entirety. Now, these two people has obvious radical behaviors going back years and you still hired them. What did you expect? A little bit of discrimination goes a long way when you are hiring for these positions.
