Please announce the arrival of the new bass-enhanced Hisenior Mega5est earphones. I just auditioned the original version, and they are probably the finest pair of headphones I have heard.
Wow, that was a trip down memory lane! I remember my first serious IEM was Shure's SE530, which had just been launched and supposedly dethroned the TF10 as the greatest IEM in the business. I liked it, but after a while I began to find it too mid-centric. Then Sennheiser's IE8 was released and, even though it was a single DD, everyone started saying that that one was the real deal, much better than the Shures. Bought one as well, but then it was the opposite: too V-shaped for me. I then got the chance to try a friend's old and outdated TF10s and it instantly clicked. It was easily my favorite, and the one I should have bought in the first place.
the longer i'm in this hobby, the more i appreciate single driver IEMs for their simplicity and the resulting versatility. if your favourite headphone amp also happens to be a very powerful one, you'd be soiling yourself every time you plug your favourite 32-ish ohm 105-ish db/mw IEM into it because your eardrums could be annihilated at 0.5% volume and your hands can't reliably twist the volume knob in such tiny increment. so you buy an impedence adaptor. that's where multi driver IEMs shit the bed - different drivers are impacted by the impedence plug differently. and your IEM ends up sounding absolutely atrocious because the tuning is completely out of wack. that's also why you never see multi driver IEMs being used in live performances - incompatible with impedence adaptor. you'll be giving yourself many more choises in headphone amps by going single driver. and there are good ones at almost any price range. you can start with moondrop's various sub $100 single driver models, then move onto etymotic er2/er4, then sennheiser ie300, ie600 and ie900.
@@fuffy442 the er4 family is certainly unique. and it was widely regarded as one of the best when it only had products from shure and westone to compete against. but when chi-fi entered the market, i can think of a few at its price range that i prefer. i understand er4 family's charm though. etymotic has the audacity to tune an IEM to what looks almost like the harman over-ear df-neutral target and make it work because their IEMs guarantees a good seal against any ear for no bass leak. you simply can't do the same bass roll-off on other IEMs. and i know a lot of full size headphone users find er4 pleasing because the tuning is very familiar to the fan favourite headphones like hd600/hd650/r70x etc. i can see it being the bridge attracting headphone enjoyers to try out IEMs. but yeah, if you are not fixiated on single driver IEM for headphone amp reasons as i explained in my original comment, i can think of several chi-fi IEMs at or slightly above er4's price range that are imo much better IEMs than it.
This brings to mind the hybrid shootout article on your old website. What great times those were for me... an easy video idea would be to go through all that again but with an updated spin on your view of them like this video. Would be pretty interesting and unique like this video compared to the landscape of iem/headphone reviews
Wait... no, the Ultimate ears Lineup back then was the Super.fi 3 which was a single armature, The Super.fi 5 EB which was DD+Armature, The Super.fi 5 pro which was dual armature, and the Triple.fi 10 which was triple armature, they were also sold under rebadged M-Audio (the monitor guys) as the IE10, IE20 and IE30. The common joke is whoever designed the shell has never seen a human ear and a common mod for the Super.fi 3, 5 Pro and TF10 Pro was to plug the cable with the R/L cables reversed and wearing them upside down since they fit better that way, Source: I owned a pair of triple.fi 10 pro, god they sucked comfort wise. Then came the Super.fi 4 which was a single Armature silver bullet one and then the Super.fi 5 2.0 which came out as part of a new "armature at 90 degrees" craze started by the Phonak PFE. and then came the UE900/S, the Super.fi 4, Super.fi 5 2.0 and UE900 were all made under logitech i believe. f... im old.
I still have super fi 5 pro's kicking about somewhere, I had a listen a while back and it's like dear god no what is this muddled mess. And to think we thought they sounded good back then, even with comply tips I couldn't get a comfortable fit. Funny enough I bought my first tribrids just the other day, THieAUDIO oracle mk3 and to me they're pretty darn sweet.
one day in the future when i have the money to buy a tiket from italy to singapore i will come to the hangout to listen some italian classic with the best possible audio quality, thanks for opening the world of hifi audio to me and save me from 300 $ logitech g-prox bluethoot headphones, your videos are really good
I remember when my headphone shop started selling the k3003 for $1200...Ended up selling about 6 over 2-3 years lol Bought a pair for $120 a couple years ago 😂
I would like to see a similar history lesson on tribrids, specifically DD + BA + EST ones. They seemed to be all the rage when they first came out and it felt like some companies *cough* Thieaudio *cough* were only making tribrids.
@@heyking8583I had them and the Space Travel really didn’t sound that great imo, easily beat by a Chu II or so. But the price for an ANC TWS Headset is amazing, though.
I saved so hard as a teenager for the 5EB and felt really disappointed. So many pure DD’s that out performed it in every reasonable way that matters to a lover of that sound signature
Great stuff.. wondering if you and your team could do a series for newbies on the terms and drivers and how it should [ feel ] , with contrast and as much description as possible. Nice video, please make one about sennheiser ie8. There was a lot of talk about it on the forums, but there are no FR graphics and there are no videos on RUclips. It was an icon for a long time
I have k3003 and with air vent mod and tips rolling it sounds absolutely amazing, very similar to ie200 situation. I have compared it with lots of kilo bucks iems during Can jam and I still prefer it. If those iems can worth 2000$ I see no reason why it didn't worth 1500$ back in the days, but I think AKG is the one who started the kilo bucks iem trend so I guess they are still the one to blame😂
Could you checkout the CVJ Assassin? It seems one of the overall best bang for buck packages for both gaming and music. Would love to see if it makes the cut.
Oh my word -- the super-fi 5-EB --> I hade two of them back in the day. The first one devoloped tin-corrosion at the connector and broke off after a year. Got a free replacement from the Apple-store (hence the second one). It was a (for me) eye-watering 329 euros. I loved it, but boy howdy was it a pain in the butt to get into your ears properly How things have changed (in the case of iems I only have planars at the moment)
the new driver I am actually the most excited to see progress is the XMEMS driver - I have them in an XMEMS + DD setup in the creative aurvana ace 2, which sound unbelievably good. Mids and treble are smooth with NO harshness up top, except the clarity is just unbelievably insane. But they suck ass at everything else a TWS should do. bad app. bad pairing. bad ANC. So I'm hoping to see what a competent TWS manufacturer can do with them. I'm also curious if they can be put into a wired IEM - but I think they have voltage requirements that don't quite work with the voltages of an audio jack or something, not sure.
I have a pair of ZS10 Pro and I have a single DD Titan S2. A decent single driver will blow away haphazerdly thrown together hybrids. There is no level of EQ that I can use on the ZS10 Pros that will match half the quality of the Titan S2. And that is saying something.
I had the K3003s which I bought as an upgrade to the Shure SE535. Got them used on eBay in like 2014/2015 for like $300 if I remember. Really did not like them very much at the time lol. They were just... boring. Better than the SE535s for sure but I wasn't a fan. Never could understand the MSRP that AKG was asking.
Hi Crin I bought your blue zero colab IEM but the cable is to short for me im a gamer.. plugging the zero in a cable extender Will make the Sound worse? Pls if you got the time answer me
I remember my first hybrid... 1more triple... Sent it back after 5 minutes of hearing then went for the Delta V2... Holly crap sounded so good, then came the master 4, decent sounding iem but it was flat and boring, I still have all of them.
Too bad my ears' skin can't bear IEMs, the passive sound isolation is greater than headphones. I tried everything I could. I bought an AKG K81DJ, the distortions are very low. Edit : I EQed it

Hybrid IEMs you say? Well what’s the gas mileage like?
GET OUT
Since it technically moves air that technically pushes you then technically you could say that iem is a transportation vehicle.
This level of cringe is criminal
Anywhere between 3,600-36,0000 hertz per hour?
But honestly, uranushertz 😏
