I always feel like singers in alot of bands kind of put on airs or do a voice but to me him and barney from napalm death are among the ones that you feel that its just their anger and pain coming out like a primal scream. Not to get too hippyish. Hearing them gets me fucking pissed off but in a totally happy positive way if that makes sense. Like the feeling you get when listening to discharge.

Often I've heard Converge called one of the best bands making heavy music. It's really hard to classify them. Their technically not a metal band. They're more grounded in the hardcore scene. In a few interviews they've used the word 'punk' to describe the sound of some of their albums. Whatever they are, their awesome, I couldn't give a shit beyond that.
Most people don't get grind, it took me years to appreciate it. Now I listen it all the time, this is like a tasty mix of grind, sludge/doom and progressive, I love it

It's totally distorted and bent, but if you listen really closely you can hear a clarinet! Just amazing. They ask, "How is it done? What should we do?" And then they just make up their own rules. Just killer, one of the most interesting bands in America.

The music behind the band name and the album art is what kills me every time. It's hard to get used to this kind of music, sometimes you feel it's too much, too overwhelming, but that's art. Not just cool sounding name and album art. Maybe that's not your cup of tea, but you shouldn't say that it's unlistenable.

I wouldn't really put Converge's vocals in the same category as most "hardcore" bands. A lot of those vocalists do bullshit growly metal vocals, whereas Jacob's just screaming as hard as he can. That's what I love about these guys... they're mixing real hardcore and metal elements, instead of adhering to the bullshit "metal minus solos equals hardcore" formula that 99% of "hardcore" bands follow.
