Keep diving, Chod. BOC's discography is diverse but solid. Unknown Tongue, Black Blade, In Thee, Shooting Shark...so many great tunes. Easily top ten favorite bands. They can hang with the big boys any day.

The music industry never gave them the credit they were due. But that's how it goes. I started listening to them in the seventies and they quickly became my favorite band of all time and they remain so till this day.
Give a listen to Nosferatu, Tenderloin, Vengeance (The Pact), Flaming Telepaths, I Love the Night, Morning Final to name just a few.

Well, they do have the "cult" in the name. Definitely a cult band with some mainstream notoriety, but kinda more well known among rock and metal geeks and musicians. But they are well known around the world.

Blue Öyster Cult's first album was released 50 years ago on Jan 16, 1972. If you're looking for another transition from rock, blues to jazzy and swing check out 'Before the Kiss, a Redcap' from their first album.

Cult was HUGE at the time. I saw this entire show on late night TV (luckily my buddy recorded it on an early VHS). We watched this show over & over. Check out the whole show!!! I've seen them live about 12 times. And was lucky to shake hands with many of the guys. Seen them in big venues & tiny clubs. Always a great show.

I love Allen's piano intro to this song...epic! Allen continues to revisit the piano theme throughout the song as a counter-point to the heavier guitars, drums and bass. A solid BOC classic tune. So many great moments, transitions and swells.

Don't know what brought you so deep in the BOC catalog, but thank you. Love to see deeper cuts get some attention! Listened to this as a teen and I just realized one of the lines Buck Dharma was playing was from "In the Hall of the Mountain King" at 05:17 in your video.

Those who remember the early days of MTV will remember that the official music video of “Joan Crawford” - Blue Öyster Cult was one of the first videos to be banned from the channel. Ironic as though the imagery was outside mainstream of the early 80s, it certainly was and is tame. ✅ it out!
BÖC has a most unique catalog, and the vibe of each album differs from the previous. You need to catch them touring USA & UK in ‘22 and ‘23 and celebrating their 50th anniversary! 🎉

The people who only know their 'radio hits' have missed out on years worth of great songs and albums. I can list countless songs I think you'd love. There are many. Alan Lanier (keyboards/guitar) is a secret weapon kind of musician in a band like BOC. He adds so much to the overall sound.

I don't believe any other reactor has done the studio versions of "The Red and The Black"1973 or "Harvester of Eyes"1974. Be the first. The drumming will get you in "The Red and The Black", and "Harvester of Eyes" IMO, is just one of their most original pieces.

The footage in the middle of this is from the music video, which was created as one of the first ever to air on the newly created MTV in 1981. However, it didn’t get much play because they thought it was too wierd and creepy. Which it definitely is, but in the best way possible lol.

Joan Crowford was a popular actress in the 1930s. Her adopted daughter is Christine who wrote a book Mommie Dearest about the abuse she suffered. The book was made into a movie. "No wire hangers!" ruclips.net/video/tUkE9qaVgmo/видео.html
It is great that you are taking a deeper dive, the only songs I remember listening to on the radio was "Don't Fear the Reaper" and "Burnin'For You"(which you haven't reacted to).

FYI BOC did become very big and would fill arenas. They also like to play in small clubs but they couldn't bill it as a Blue Oyster Cult show or else there'd be a mob outside. So when they wanted to play a tiny club or a bar they would play as "soft white underbelly." Nobody except a few die hard fans would find that listing and know what we were going for.

Chod, you keep on scoring with great BOC.. been a lifelong fan since 1975.. One thing that is cool about their early albums is how they meld 2 songs together seamlessly, like "Flaming Telepaths"/" Astronomy " or "Od'd On Life Itself"/"Hot Rails To Hell", which could only be reacted to as Vinyl versions only.. If you could pull that off, uninterrupted, that would be awesome.. a possible challenge exists there.. Thanks.

BOC has been underrated and maybe underappreciated by everyone in the music industry except for the diehard fans. I have seen them live many times over the years and dare anyone to find a better band that puts on a great stage show. Back in their heyday they were pretty popular, but after the Bouchard brothers (Albert and Joe) left, people started to slowly forget them. It's a damn shame because I would put them up there with all of the greats!

BOC were …..we’ll do it our way. The record company wanted to make them into a Rolling Stones America Band. They Bucked (no pun intended though it fits) the system and rolled their own dice. People as myself that love the band feel your feelings. They have something that is hard to describe….but if you get it…..it becomes part of you. Thx for sharing the love…..and Buck is another one of those underrated guitarists. Nice work.

It'd be awesome to see you react to their first three albums all the way through. You won't be disappointed. I have a theory that maybe they weren't recognized as much was because they were kind of weird as far as subject matter in their songs. Only thing I can think of especially as far as the R&R Hall of Fame is concerned.

Nope. This song kicks ass. The first three albums are my favorites, but this tune is in the upper tier of their catalogue to me. Especially this version. Eric's vocals are incredible. Imagine trying to speak for an entire section of a fanbase. Lots of people love this song.
