Our best decision when retiring here in the Philippines was moving out of the city to the countryside. We have a beautiful farm site, screens on the window (very important) It's peaceful, quiet, low cost of living, and distant neighbors so we don't hear them or their Dogs and chickens. We save lots of $$ on expenses that can be used for weekend excursions instead of paying high rent. We are not paying $17 a month BUT very reasonable. If we were still in the states our costs there would wipe out our pensions the first few days of the month. Here we almost can't spend it! Ive been living in the philippines province for over 4 years, from the uk so im used to cool weather. However, I find I mostly dont need aircon and a fan is enough. But here's a pro tip to make life comfortable during brownouts. Get a battery backup power station, either to run a mains fan, or more efficiently, a 12v fan like you see on truck dashboards. They're only 5 or 10 watts so really help to make the battery last. Also a 12v light, plus you can charge your phone too. The reason for 12v is so you dont get the efficiency loss using the inverter. Just make sure the battery has enough capacity for your needs. Mine's about 1kw hour.
My gosh that spider was huge! Have you experienced flying cockroaches? 😂 When I was little and used to go to my Lola's house in Cavite, there were nights when flying cocroaches would come out! I used to scream when they landed near or on me! 😂 I love Ampalaya. Quick story, years before we started dating, my husband has been asking me to go out with him. I lived in my 30+ acre homestead and one of the vegetables I was having a hard time growing on my homestead here in Texas was ampalaya. My husband got wind of this issue. He studied the vegetable and how to grow it in Texas and months later, he left a huge basket of ampalaya at my doorstep with a sweet note that if I have dinner with him, he'll grow more for me.❤ The rest is history😊 We're still growing ampalaya on our ranch and the kids love it. Yes when I was stationed in South Carolina. They're huge. What's really creepy is when they turn their heads and watch you. They called them palmetto bugs. Hello… Just want to interject this…. Ampalaya - in English is a type of a gourd called Bitter melon, and it holds true to its name if one does not know how to properly prepare it prior to cooking… 😊
As soon as I heard bitter vegetable that's very healthy, I knew it must be kerela, othrwise known as bitter melon. It's so horribly bitter in my mind but it's eaten a lot in India as it's very good for people with diabetes and blood pressure. Bro, treat that girl right, get her a better place to live. Those apartments are so cheap you wouldn't even feel the cost!
Hi chris, I just started to watch your page apartments, please let me know if iand only if you can see if there is any bottom floor apt or hose . The problem is I am in a wheelchair but in therapy. That's the reason for a first-floor please send or post a video if this is possible. Thank you in advance
For wheelchair access in the Cebu City area you're going to focus on two neighborhoods. One the Cebu Business Park and two the IT Park. There you should be able to find an apartment with wheelchair access. I would caution that the Philippines in general is not super wheelchair friendly and I do see a couple of guys in both of those neighborhoods who are in wheelchairs.
Ampalaya or Paliya in Bisaya is bitter gourd. A local vegetable good to control diabetes. Balamban is my father's hometown. It's cold at night and early mornings. Enjoy the slow pace of province lifestyle.
I would like to see some more places out in the providences that have more of a full kitchen full bathroom a little bit more western style if that is possible, but I love this video and it helps explain a lot
Thank you It’s still would like to see more places that you can rent in different areas of the providences their amenities and what they have to offer. I find this very interesting. I looked at Thailand as a place to go, but in the end, I decided it’s not for me. The Philippines was next on my list.
Hmmm... I can see that you are holding a selfie stick through the reflection on the window. But somehow it doesn't show on the video ? Did you remove it in post?
Wow, where is this? What name or barangay would I search to see a map? I don't mind living a bit away from a city. I can't stay here, but perhaps I could find what I need. I don't mind the small space, but I absolutely need some small very secure yard for my dog.
Ya its called 'bitter melon'. Got sick off of that when I ate in a lunch buffet. May have been from the day before...never again. Ya looked like a wolf spider, although it looks darker in color. We have them that size in Florida. Ya, Mary Roses pad looks like a good place to crash. Thanks for the video, Take Care, MaryRose and Chris...Jim
Hey Jim. Her place is ok. Works. I'd crash there. I'm hearing from others and thought this myself, the spider is a huntsman spider. Local to the area and everywhere. Harmless but teleporting fast.
Studio all day everyday. Needs a Murphy bed, or convertible futon couch, fridge, desk and two chairs voila. Eat out and laundry out you are a rich man - great job!
I spent 50k peso on brand new Chinese fridge microwave etc etc tv stero etc etc air conditioner etc etc and bamboo furniture,, mattress etc. 75 k second hand 4wD multi cab , 30k second hand XR 200 ! And if goes south pack the bike and what furniture you can get on a ferry and change provenance 🎲🩴🍻🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎
reitiring in the philippines is a nice idea in terms of being close to family and friends. But to consider safety , i donot think i will continue to have peace of mind.
Damm, are huntsman of that size common in philippines? Never seen one when i have been on vacation in philippines. The second room looks modern, have a proper shower, little bit small, but for 4k, not bad.
We regularly get those spiders ..they are very fast, cannot live them so close by though. Just part of the Philippines..my partner says there house spiders are the same size in the UK. On separate issue, it’s good to think about extra safety for your gf, thats why there are special houses just for ladies. Certainly a kitchen is a must ..I again personally would not rent rooms out to share as you’ll likely to get the bf’s of potential renters that can lead to problems…in many ways.
I have been to BGC and Makati. I liked it there more than I thought I would. I wouldn't want to live there as I feel like I'm still in the US but nice place for sure and ideal for the person who wants western living.
Currently in Makati, but flying into Cebu Tuesday. Should I decide to stay longer, I'll get something long-term, but I'm looking for hotel recommendations for about a week. Expense is not a concern. Any insights are appreciated.
If you’re interested in checking out Cebu City you could stay at the Seda hotel. The one either in the Business Park or IT would work. If you’re looking for upscale accommodations then go out to Lapu-Lapu and stay at one of the resorts out there. Neustar casino is another option as well as the Waterfront.
@@CarefreeChris Booked a room at Seda Ayala. Resorts are fine, but I want to be within walking distance of the mall. I'm traveling around SE Asia, narrowing the list of potential places to hang my hat, and I think this will offer a better opportunity to get the lay of the land, and a feel for the community.
Having a fridge is a necessity , cold drinks on a hot day will boost your morale. Be patient, I fiound a nice house for 6k with 2bd,shower water heater, water filtration, air con and fridge.
ampalaya I was told is bitter gourd. Wow can not believe they fit 4 people in that tiny room , jail cells are bigger. LOL. We have those spiders in the house all the time. Took me awhile to get used to those huge spiders since I am not a spider fan. I have not had a real shower in a really long time, use a tabo everyday. Also we have no AC in our house. The fan works well.
That's what I'm talking about, a nice little studio in the province for $100 or less. I just don't want to move there to be inside all the time. I am more of an outdoor guy so why waste $? That spider was defiantly an XL, lol. I want to find out what type they have there. I dispatched 5 Black Widows last night. Now those really get me on edge. I have been bitten twice before and the first time did not go well! Edit: That looks like a normal PH house spier, big but not harmful to humans, likes to dine on cockroaches, so an ally! Ironically the only two species there that are dangerous have been introduced, and are both of the Black Widow family. 🤦♂
@KevinVenturePhilippines You can look up 'pension houses' in Cebu and find some that are around the same price. Those type of dwellings are plentiful in the Philippines. Edit: to say; That place looked a lot nicer then most 'pension houses'
My girlfriend in palawan lives in a private room for 4K a month with no AC, it’s pretty unlivable in my opinion. I bought her a mattress too. Btw that is a cane spider; harmless. We have those in Hawaii too. But yes need a boarding house to crash out anytime brother
This is a great video sir I'm planning to move to the Philippines myself and I would like to be able to find a place like that to live for myself very nice places for that kind of money where exactly are you
Considering how cheap the rent is you could buy an AC and just leave it if you move too far away to take it with you. But the CR is more of a turn off for me in the cheaper places. Dont love the Asian style toilet/shower situation
hey bro great videos. i dont want to be mean but you can get much more views if people can see more clearly whats on the thumbnail. maybe zoomed in more? or a bigger face on the thumbnail? and bigger font? 😊
That huntsman spider is actually not nearly as big as they get…I lived in a house for a month in Puerto Galera with several of them…they are very quick and catch and eat cockroaches …disturbing it not dangerous
I reckon the apartment is cheap for only 5k a month and you got more privacy. By the way that ampalaya is called bitter melon in English my husband doesn't mind eating it.

Gas for the car is higher in europe:D
Hi Chris, I would be interested in making a consultation call about how to find an apartment like this...its a game changer to save this much money on rent. Planning to look for a place to rent in early 2025
It is definitely a game changer! We can do a call if you like. In most of my videos there should be a link
@@CarefreeChris thank you
Maybe share a room with 3 young Filipinas...
That would be interesting for sure:)
@@CarefreeChris I don't know, Chris... that guy may have just completely change my idea of "retirement"! Can you tell me what city this is in? Looked pretty good and I want to do some research on it. Thanks, just subscribed.
WHAT? THEN I COULD PAY MORE
@@remo1wodmnetwork9605 Think he is in 'Ormoc Philippines'
@@remo1wodmnetwork9605 Palompon Leyte. Really remote. Ormoc is a good option too if you don't mind remote
Hello… Just want to interject this…. Ampalaya - in English is a type of a gourd called Bitter melon, and it holds true to its name if one does not know how to properly prepare it prior to cooking… 😊
It's not to bad really
As soon as I heard bitter vegetable that's very healthy, I knew it must be kerela, othrwise known as bitter melon. It's so horribly bitter in my mind but it's eaten a lot in India as it's very good for people with diabetes and blood pressure. Bro, treat that girl right, get her a better place to live. Those apartments are so cheap you wouldn't even feel the cost!
You’re right, that’s exactly what it is-bitter melon. Wasn't that bad actually. Especially with eggs.
Ampalaya is otherwise known as bitter gourd. Not very popular in non-Asian.countries. Good for its fiber and ability to stabilize blood sugar levels..
Yeah it’s not to bad really
@@CarefreeChris i personally eat it even if I dont like the taste, any Filipkna can cook that bitterness and make their children love it.
Sir, which part of the Philippine province u r renting a apartment of usd 17.00 including water & electricity?
Those apartments are in Palompon Leyte
Provinces in general are pretty inexpensive
Amazing!!!❤❤❤❤
I know right. So inexpensive.
Wow, enjoy your stay in PH and hope you feel at home with your girlfriend, she's very shy 😊!
Thank you, I will
Ampalaya or Paliya in Bisaya is bitter gourd. A local vegetable good to control diabetes. Balamban is my father's hometown. It's cold at night and early mornings. Enjoy the slow pace of province lifestyle.
Yes. I’m loving it :-)
I would like to see some more places out in the providences that have more of a full kitchen full bathroom a little bit more western style if that is possible, but I love this video and it helps explain a lot
Noted and more to come. Might be more towards the beginning of the next year as I’ll be upgrading my place there in the provinces
Thank you
It’s still would like to see more places that you can rent in different areas of the providences their amenities and what they have to offer.
It's my camera. It's the Insta360 camera. Pretty incredible.
Wow, where is this? What name or barangay would I search to see a map? I don't mind living a bit away from a city. I can't stay here, but perhaps I could find what I need. I don't mind the small space, but I absolutely need some small very secure yard for my dog.
It'a in Palompon Leyte. Small little town of the coast. I dig it:)
Yeah, in the province it's 30-40% less from city's price range to rent accommodations. Good 👍 info
I like being out in some of these more remote areas
@@CarefreeChris ...Of course. Discover the whole area. "Let there be" Leyte man. Let there be light
HI CHRIS THIS IS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE,$17 DOLLARS PER MONTH THIS IS AMAZING FOR THAT PRICE CHEERS N HULALUIA
Yeah college life in a boarding house is super cheap
Incredible 😲
Small space but works as a crash pad
First apartment had Air con hole and socket, just need to drop another 5k for the air con.
Yep. Doable
Harmless but teleporting fast.
not sure how much my pension pays but I could live there as a backup plan for sure. Savings could go a long way maybe even buy a property to rent out.
Your money goes a long way here
Studio all day everyday. Needs a Murphy bed, or convertible futon couch, fridge, desk and two chairs voila. Eat out and laundry out you are a rich man - great job!
Right on. That’s the plan:)
Where was this studio? What city? I'm in dumaguete. Rents killing me. Lol
We were in Palompon Leyte. Really remote, near Ormoc
$17 per month!! That’s a rocking deal. A place like that would be 100 times that in So cal
So cheap
well in California, it is a omni Fu-kery all the way lol
Thanks for sharing ❤
You are so welcome:)
Looking very lean bro. Keep it up.
Feeling good brother:)
Hope you’re doing good there too
Can't wait until I'm kick back with a kind beautiful hearted Filipino
I hear ya
Great Video
Thanks for watching!
That sounds like a great way to live.
reitiring in the philippines is a nice idea in terms of being close to family and friends. But to consider safety , i donot think i will continue to have peace of mind.
I feel safer here than I do in United States
Damm, are huntsman of that size common in philippines? Never seen one when i have been on vacation in philippines.
The second room looks modern, have a proper shower, little bit small, but for 4k, not bad.
Yeah. They’re big and teleport fast
Her sister is going to be there with her
Those spiders are massive:)
@@CarefreeChris That’s perfect 👍
That would be considered a 4 bedroom (2 bunk beds) DORM. still very inexpensive, but its far from being an apartment.
Right. So inexpensive
¿ have u visited bgc , & how does it compare to cebu 4overall living
I have been to BGC and Makati. I liked it there more than I thought I would. I wouldn't want to live there as I feel like I'm still in the US but nice place for sure and ideal for the person who wants western living.
@@CarefreeChris agree , how u feel about iloilo overall ?
where are these apts? what area? I think u said cebu, but Im almost 70 so I cant hear ur vedio to go
Yeah, I’m currently in Cebu city.
These places, though are in Palompon Leyte.
Yesss much cheaper when you living in country side PH.
Absolutely. So incredibly inexpensive
Those big spiders are cool they eat all the bugs even mosquitoes. Very harmless.
I’m a fan. Had several tarantula species in the United States when I lived there.
My girl is from the mountain province and she says to ignore it so they can catch bugs
Yep exactly
Living like a pauper in the Province. Sounds like tons of fun.
It’s certainly an adventure:)
@@CarefreeChris I am sure haha. Wait until March and AC is a must. Especially with climate change .
Currently in Makati, but flying into Cebu Tuesday. Should I decide to stay longer, I'll get something long-term, but I'm looking for hotel recommendations for about a week. Expense is not a concern. Any insights are appreciated.
Come to Bohol and I’ll give you a tour.
@@CarefreeChris Thanks, Chris
Mactan cebu has the best resorts and hotels.
Nice man
ampalaya I was told is bitter gourd.
Nice man. I’m getting here:)
Can you put a bar-b-que grill on the patio?
lol for sure
I’m with you on every aspect of your comment here :-)
@KevinVenturePhilippines You can look up 'pension houses' in Cebu and find some that are around the same price.
I’m digging Palompon. Small town and folks are super friendly
This is a great video sir I'm planning to move to the Philippines myself and I would like to be able to find a place like that to live for myself very nice places for that kind of money where exactly are you
So this place is in the deep provinces in Palompon Leyte. I live in Cebu City which is a great place to start your Philippines journey
So how much in province is cost of living the things we take for granted here and in Philippines they just survive
So true. Our budget is so much more than the average Filipino.
IS THE MATRESS A SEALY POSTER PEDIC ??
lol I wish :)
they say davao is also a great city to visit & meet people.
¿ have u been their & whats your overall assessment of it
I'll be in Davao City for sure. On my list
@@CarefreeChris give us the scoop , will ya
I had a place called Camella Townhouse closed to Boracay n Closed in Timog beside GMA 7. Nobody lives atm since I’m living in the U.S

LOL The Large Spider! They Jump too so be careful or it may scar you for life. hahahaha
Those spiders are huge:)
Chris, have you done any videos on health insurance for expats? Thank you.
I have not but I'm using a local company called Maxicare
Where were these places?
It’s in Palompon Leyte
@@CarefreeChris I’m in a relationship with a woman in Tabunok Leyte and heading to meet her soon
Nice. I’m a big fan of Leyte
In which Philippines city you diid this vedio please ?
This is in Palompon Leyte
Considering how cheap the rent is you could buy an AC and just leave it if you move too far away to take it with you. But the CR is more of a turn off for me in the cheaper places. Dont love the Asian style toilet/shower situation
Yes exactly and some folks do that where they buy an AC
Is Leyte in any way better then other places in the Philippines in terms off less congestion/better roads/ better planned towns?
Yes absolutely Richard. Nothing but open roads brother. Check out some of my riding videos
This is the 1st vid I've seen of yours Kuya
what city are you in & where are these units ?
Thanks for watching, brother. I appreciate it. These apartments are in Palompon Leyte where my girl is at. I’m looking to live the part-time:)
What town are you in?
Right now I’m in Cebu City but this video was shot in Palompon Leyte
@@CarefreeChris so you are saying the rentals you were showing were in palompon ?
Yep exactly. I split my time between Cebu City and Palompon. This video was shot in Palompon Leyte.
We call them WOLF SPIDERS in Arizona. They are in the Tarantula family.
It's a huntsman spider. Really common for this region. Incredibly fast
Where is this?!!
That is in Palompon Leyte
With the money saved every month you could get a small ac and put it in that one room.
Absolutely
hey bro great videos. i dont want to be mean but you can get much more views if people can see more clearly whats on the thumbnail. maybe zoomed in more? or a bigger face on the thumbnail? and bigger font? 😊
Thanks for the tip
That huntsman spider is actually not nearly as big as they get…I lived in a house for a month in Puerto Galera with several of them…they are very quick and catch and eat cockroaches …disturbing it not dangerous
Yeah. Pretty spectacular. I'm a fan. I use to keep tarantulas in the US:)
I lived there for 9 months and still remember the massive amount of wires on those poles. Time moves slow there. enjoy yourself
So true. Gotta love it:)
Is the $68 apartment available?
We found all of these on Facebook Marketplace, so I’d recommend checking there if you’re interested.
@@CarefreeChris Thanks
I gotta admit, I’m scared of the bathrooms and showers 😮😮😮
You get used to them Hex
Can you imagine working in California on minimum wage but still earn enough to pay for your rent and utilities if you moved to that place.
Right. So expensive in the US nowadays
I reckon the apartment is cheap for only 5k a month and you got more privacy. By the way that ampalaya is called bitter melon in English my husband doesn't mind eating it.
I’m a fan. I just had some more today for breakfast :-)
That spider is so big, he needs to be paying monthly rent! 🤣🤣🤣
lol right:)
