  • Unboxing of the amazing props crafted by the H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society (HPLHS) for Chaosium's 40th anniversary Kickstarter publication of some of their classic core box sets and supplements.
Apologies for some of the poor sound quality. My son was helping me create this video, and he accidently placed his finger over the microphone a few times. Thank you for your understanding.

Very nice unboxing video Jon! For a minute I thought you were going to fumble your open envelope check.

I already own the Masks of Nyarlathotep handout box they made, and I knew I just had to get this one too, especially since I kickstarted the 40th Anniversary Classic set. I asolutely love that they gave The Haunting so much love and attention.

Hey Jon, it's Corey in KC. Glad to see the YT algorithm serve this vid up to me tonight. That set looks fantastic! Would love to play CoC in person with those more immersive props to go along with the scenarios! You can tell a lot of time and dedication went into all those pieces.

I believe what I read on the Kickstarter that this was the 2nd Edition. :)

Back in the day, after Chaosium published the 1st Edition Box Set, (which is the 2" thick box), they did next-to-nothing to support it. Then, in 1983 they published the 2nd Edition Box Set, (which is the thinner 1" thick box), which they did heavily support with lots of campaigns and adventure books afterwards. So, because the bulk of the material was originally published, (technically), to support the 2nd Edition, that's why the Kickstarter was described as a honorific for that edition. But it is actually both the 1st and 2nd Edition reprint.

@@JonHook, that is interesting I was looking at my pledge level, it must be a typo, it shows both of them as 2nd edition.

Yeah... it had a crazy fold with paper edges hidden by the sticker.

@@JonHook There is a handy "how to open..." pictorial sequence in the members Sanctorum section of the HPLHS site, so I guess it's not just you ;)
