After 40 years or so of hauling this box set around...I'm going to finally solo play it. I love the concept, but like you stated, the combat seems crazy complicated. I'm going to try to run it as written first and then tweaked once I fully understand it. That's the plan for now. I wish there was more interest in this game.

Pretty sure this is based on the tarot described in the old Delta Green: Countdown book.

I think "Le Mat" looks like "The Fool" in a traditional Tarot deck, which is always numbered 0 (there are 22 Major Arcana in a traditional deck)

Great video! This game has always sparked my imagination. I bought it when it came out, but no one wanted to play it. I’ve carried it around with me this whole time. I’m finally going to play it solo. I can’t wait.

Sounds like your group has agreed upon how Darkness Points work at your table. Just as an FYI though, Darkness Points carry over between sessions according to Pg. 56 of the core rulebook!

Just stumbled across this years later, and had to make a note on the blanks: They're excellent for dry-erase markers, i.e. not for permanent use. I think that's the intent anyway.

I like this idea, plus it gets around people who don't like being broadcast or don't have good equipment for quality recording or decent internet access

Very nice. The source book is fantastic. Kind of feeling a little dated now lol. Why have I never checked to see if you had your own channel? I remember passing all this up at the time. It always interested me very highly. Just started getting into it about 8 months ago now. Happy to say Shadow over Providence was the first adventure I picked up after the starter set. Love the work you and Matt did. In print of course. I come from the area and am about 10 minutes away from Mr. Lovecraft's last residence, so the adventure was a definite no brainer. The 83' book was probably put into a couple of years of boxes. If there are no changes they won't reprint the book to change that. It was done a lot by TSR back then also. Really nice collectibles there.

I already own the Masks of Nyarlathotep handout box they made, and I knew I just had to get this one too, especially since I kickstarted the 40th Anniversary Classic set. I asolutely love that they gave The Haunting so much love and attention.

The 2nd edition Sourcebook for the 1920s is different to the 1st. They changed the skill system in the careers section so that it no longer lists the skill percentages per five year period, and simply listed the skill names. In my view, the 1st edition version is the better of the two.

That second edition 1" boxed set is a bit of a miss-mash, as you suspected. The color catalog you briefly referred to is from 85 or so. They wouldn't have included both catalogs in a single boxed set.

Hey, nice video. I have been a fan of MU pod and am getting into Modern Mythos as well. Also have the scenarios you wrote for Age of Cthulhu. That aside, as far as you 2nd edition box goes, it might be original first printing even with the spring 84 catalogue. The catalogues are printed in advance, and if this released in winter, they would be putting the next season's catalogue in there most likely which would have been spring. Also, reading the text in the new kickstarter, back then, those box sets were actually collated and shrink wrapped in the warehouse. So even if it was printed earlier, it depends on how many copies they had, and when that actual box set was shipped. They would most likely always put the current catalogue in the box, since they were building them as they were shipped. For example, and these are made up numbers, but if that first print was 5000 copies, and they sold 3000 copies right away, and it took them 6 months to sell the rest, it is very possible that that first edition sets sets sold at different times contained different catalogues. I could be totally wrong here, but is seems plausible. I'm sure others can correct me if I am wrong. Anyway, glad to see ya have a channel now, look forward to seeing more videos!

You had me at Basic Roleplaying System. I loved Privateers and Gentlemen from Fantasy Games Unlimited. It was deadly though. I ran once. One player's character went blind and deaf from injuries, the other died in surgery. Good times. I love boxed sets. Games having introductory adventures is key, I think. Nice overview of the product.
