I subscribed not just for the great review, but also I think it’s the first time in a RUclips video someone hasn’t told me to “smash” the like/subscribe button and instead informed of what the channel will offer.
I have the white version, we did experience the motor noise issue. I can best describe the issue as a clicking noise on low to mid range oscillation. I manged to troubleshoot this by taking the top off and manually rotating the small cog to just reset it in a way, the nosie then stopped and it hasn't returned. We have owned it for just under a year now and not yet replaced the filter, the fan info advises the filter is still good currently. I think it is a great solution for a small form factor fan and filter system, I live in the UK and it is doing a great job keeping us cool. Thumbs up from me, first Dyson purchase and would recommend.
Loved your review! I felt like I was watching a video from a channel that had 100.000 subscribers and a lot more views on the video with the quality of your review. As to the Pure Cool Me, I might get it if there is a good sale otherwise I think the weird noises and expensive filters are a bit too much off-putting
I got this today as well as dyson pure cool for our home. My daughter has allergies and wanted to see the air quality of our home. So far I’m liking them.
Pretty cool (pun intended) being here 1 year on and hearing you talking about this channel being new and having few subscribers. At the time of typing this you’re at 10K+ - great work Ben!
I bought this to place in my semi to help me with the pug hair and all the dust from living in my truck for 27 days a month. It works great and I’m very happy with it. But I like hearing the noise as it puts me to sleep. To me, this is well worth the money.

I have also had mine for about a year.It is a nice sleeper fan and it scrubs the air of many harmful particles and even has a detailed reader of the pollution level and parts per something with ranges showing you the quality of air.Just had to change the filters and it really took a lot of particles I would have breathed in while sleeping away.It also cleans a room of stale air.I also got the bigger model and my main reason was to clean the air silently
Got this same color i have at bedside table I won’t sleep without it now summer or winter i do speed 2 all winter and 3 during the summer love the smooth purified air dyson rocks.
Thanks Ben. Great review. Simplicity is key. Cool piece of kit. Bought this week for the bedside. Still having a play to set the inclination angles but all in all, so far so good!
I got one and found it to be excellent and cooled the air nicely, are you sure the odd noise was the motor? the noise issue I had was when it was rotating and made a grinding noise I fixed this really easily by wiping some beeswax on the top edge of the lower part of the fan, clever and nice looking.
I've been considering the AM06, but can't really justify the cost for a fan. I've been watching some fan reviews on RUclips, and most of them are either obvious marketing, or people just happy to show off their new luxury product. Thank you for doing some empirical comparisons!
Thanks for your comments. Yeah Dyson like to flood youtubers with free products to get the ‘oh wow look at this’ type coverage too. I paid my own money for these fans and am genuinely interested in what they offer as I do think their design has some genuine merit that goes some way to justifying the cost. :)
Sound comparison is like a prop plane vs a jet. I find the Dyson sound soothing that it's incredibly hard to sleep withough it so I usually take my HP07 with me on road trips for hotels since it's compact
Hey Ben! I would love to see more about this Raspberry Pi/HomeKit Feature you were talking about. I‘m searching for purifyers to cure my may-Fever symptoms and having the ability to apply it to HomeKit would make my inner geek even happier! Thanks for the very informative video, though!
With another hot spring and summer rapidly approaching this was really helpful Ben. I also see there are some non-Dyson filters available at about a third of the cost, although I suspect they're not as good.
It does rotate, on full power the fan is pretty serious but not as good as the AM06. It really works best at low power when it‘s nice and close to you and you just use it to keep the air flowing at you rather than trying to cool the room. Technically no fan can cool a room, the effect is felt on your skin. More details in this video: ruclips.net/video/vHDK5OdLkpk/видео.html
Yeah I do that with mine, It’s due its second replacement filter now and I’ve had it in July 2019. There are third party filters available now which I’ll check out on the next one.
Great Job with the video, I just bought this machine and I liked the little tips, or I guess information, otherwise I agree in what you say and that’s a good informative video, I wished to know more about the sleep mode, that’s one thing I haven’t figured out yet, why the time 30min-8h Is it before sleep mode kicks in? How long will it last and on what level will the fan go?
Great review, thank you. Same thing happened to me with the noise! I had to replace my first unit after a week of use, it was making a strange high-pitched metallic sound inside. I’ve had my replacement for over a month and *so far* thankfully it’s all fine. I use mine for sleeping, typically at 2/3 setting, and it’s relatively quiet and very pleasant. I wish the 1st setting was a little stronger though as it’s virtually silent but I feel like it doesn’t do anything at all. Overall I am pleased with the product but it’s definitely expensive for what it is. It’s a shame it doesn’t connect with the app as I would like to read up more about its purifying qualities, at the moment it feels like placebo.
Yeah app and data would be nice, I got one of those bigger ones too and am super impressed with all the data! With the Cool Me I’m pretty confident in the purification as long as you are in the airflow; I think it’s probably just a bit low volume of air to purify a whole room the way the big ones do. ruclips.net/video/eCMtocnuKTc/видео.html
Thank you. Really great review. What a breath of fresh air (ha). Quick question.. does the power level of the fan affect the 'strength' of the purification or are they unrelated? ie if I have it on level 1 air flow all the time, is it still working to full capacity on the purification? Thanks for your help!
Thanks for your comments! I’ve wondered this actually. Basically it’s just a filter so all the air that comes out comes through the filter. In theory it has the potential to filter more of your room’s air quicker if it’s running on higher speeds. Having said that I know they are keen to stress that this isn’t a device you’d use to purify a whole room’s air. I.e the goal is to just have the air that is flowing at you to be pure. Again though if the air flowing at you is moving quicker it seems logical to assume that it’s going to be denser and therefore ‘more pure’. All wild speculation of course! I think in reality the purified air even on low levels is so close to you that you’re going to be breathing in very pure air.
Could you rate the cooling aspect of it? Would it cool a oom on a hot summer's day (in the UK)? It seems to have no air-con mechanics so how does it cool?
During winter with heating on can you turn down the cool fan but still have clean air? I am thinking of getting one for all year use but also possibly to take with me when staying in hotel rooms.
Yeah I have it on level 1 by my bedside all year. Not enough to feel cooled by it but you can just feel the air so you know it’s the pure air you’re getting.
Nice review! How long did you use it before you had to change the filter? Daily? 24/7? An air flow meter would be awesome to measure the wind speeds of the different fans. Also, how many watts do each use? Thanks!
Thank you for this review. You have the black one and I was checking out a sale going on for this unit. Best Buy has $50 off but only for the white one. It's down to $299. But the black one would be $349. I think I like the black one so much that I'll pay the extra $$ for it. What concerned me most is the fact that you had to return so many of them.
No problem, thanks for the comment :) Yeah the returns were a bit nuts at the start. I did get it fairly early on after they released them so I wondered if I just kept getting ones from a bad batch or something! I mean they dealt with it no trouble at all, very fast swapping them over etc. I guess that's what the warrantee is there for. Yeah the black colour does look seriously cool. White is still good but the black has that silvery reflectivity to it which really sets it off.
Thank you for that review, it was exactly what I needed to know and answer questions that I was considering before my purchase. Only issue is now I've seen the black version, that's all I want and cant find it anyway. Darn it. :) Anyway, you've just earned a new subscriber
One day I'd love to! This comparison is for people who are interested in the differences in airflow characteristics between the non-purifying and the purifying fans. i.e what kind of compromise does the purification bring to the airflow. Thanks for your comment!
Thank you very much very useful review indeed well I ask you please to give me an advice for a 60 m² apartment for cooling and purifying which model as of your experience. Will you advise me to purchase? Kindly? Thank you very much
I'd get one of the bigger tower fans. But note no fan will cool a space - it can only cool you or at best promote cooler air into the room if placed near a window. See this for more details: ruclips.net/video/vHDK5OdLkpk/видео.html
Very nice video mate! Subscribed ✌🏼 I just bought the white model yesterday and will get it today. Lets see how it works in my room but I love the aesthetics.
I was looking to upgrade from the AM06. My room faces the sun all day and can get unbearably hot. Sounds like I might be better off just getting a turbo fan.
Yeah this one wont offer any more cooling power than the am06. Check this vid for some ideas on making the most of them ruclips.net/video/vHDK5OdLkpk/видео.html
If cooling is the goal get AM06 without a doubt. It pushes a huge amount air around and fast. Having said that, if there’s no window you won’t be encouraging any cooler air in so ultimately you’re still pushing hot air around. If you splash some water on your face you will find the airflow from the fan very cooling though.
You can put it on level 1 which is the tiniest of airflow - you’ll be getting purified air with very low cooling/fan effect. The filter will certainly block any kind of dust etc but you’ll need to be breathing in the air fairly directly as it’s not designed to purify all the air in a room like their bigger devices. (According to their documentation)
I’ve got DPO1 cool me fan it is 12 mths old but will not turn on where the numbers shoe there is a triangle with a question mark what can I do to reset the fan ?
Channels like you make me not wanna have my own channel. Had you not called out that you’re new I would’ve thought you had x100 more subscribers. I absolutely loved your style so +1. What mic do you use? I am excited to check our your other videos.
Very kind of you to say that! I use Rode ntg2 - with the rode a1- e interface into the Mac - biggest issue I have is buzzing from some kind of grounding or interference. It's great fun though so if you enjoy making videos go for it! I've been really blown away by the positivity and comments from the community here.
Ben Vallack thanks for the info. I don’t know much about mics but just trying to find a good affordable one. I just loved your overall style, types of things you pay attention to, angles you took in this video such as infrared-HK connection which made an huge impact for me, as well as making sure you don’t blah blah blah for 2 mins about random stuff. One minor personal feedback would be not to say “I’ll give you at the end” sounds a bit gotcha, just don’t tell me when, I’ll watch it I wanna know. Your work is too good to sound desperate, IMO. I just bought this in white out of an impulse buy at $200 and I needed some videos to tell me I didn’t waste money lol. It’s for babies room so not for desk but additional purifier impact. It’s always hot here so air is more polluted than general. I know you recommended this for all-season climates. Hope you’re still liking it. Keep it up.
I guess it could do so you’d want to keep an eye on it as I believe the warning is based on a timer that tracks its use. So it might be blocked up with dust but still saying it’s ok kind of thing. Sill if that’s the case I’d rather the filter took the hit than my lungs!
@@BenVallack yeah I guess so. I just bought one today. The video you did is the one I'm looking for and it made me decide to buy it after months of research. Thanks man
Jong Banaag you’re welcome. When I was in the research phase it hadn’t been out long so there wasn’t much out there apart from the obvious ‘dyson sent me this to review...’. - so figured I’d make this proper owner’s review video.
Thanks for your comment! Remember they don’t cool the actual air so there wouldn’t been a cooling process within a room. They provide cooling when the moving air passes over your skin. I.e moving air encourages more evaporation from your skin which cools you. The actual air temperature doesn’t change. Of course if you have an open window somewhere, a strategic fan position can encourage cooler air to be sucked in from outside which will help cool a room (assuming outside air is cooler than inside!). Apologies if you understood this already but thought I’d comment in case anyone else is unsure.
Great informative video! I was actually asking a question about the fan on another youtuber which was “ does it stop working if the filter needs changing( which can be expensive)” Youve answered that question! I like a lot of air on me and dont mind noise. Great video, im sure you will have a lot of views and subscriptions! The Am06 seems like a really good option! Hi from Canada 🇨🇦
@@TonyMontana-os8ri I assumed you meant you didn’t want it by your bed due to the way it looks. It wouldn’t work upside down due to the top needing gravity to stay seated.
I bought this and was very disappointed to find out it did not have Wi-fi connection and you cannot use the Dyson App as with all the others, replacement filters are also £50 which will probably last a year,
Yeah they are expensive toys for sure. There's another video on my channel that shows how to connect it to Siri/homekit with a raspberry pi if you're into a bit of light programming!
Yeah I wanted to do that - you can probably get some kind of meter display for your computer audio which might give you a good comparative reading from the audio in the video.
We got this for the toddler room ruclips.net/user/postUgkxdzUap46p9ViXhKZf5mK_bXOb89EHxTqq because of the bladeless feature. Actually has a lot more power than I thought it would. Can still feel the air moving well 6 feet away, which is farther than I would expect from a desk fan. My daughter dropped twice and still works. I haven't checked out how long it lasts on a charge yet, but the air output was still good for the few minutes it was unplugged. My daughter also likes the color lights feature, but I don't really care for it and can be annoying to go through all the options before it turns off. Overall, happy with the purchase, especially for the price
Yes very loud indeed! Can't really see the need for it at that level unless you are using it in a larger room but thats not really what it's designed for - it does work best when it's near you. i.e Desk or bedside.
Just put it on level 10 at my desk now - it's actually not too bad - certainly providing a lot of cooling effect! Nice to know it's there when it's this hot.
To be honest, the cheapo fan moves more air and has a more pleasant low pitch hum at lower setting than the higher pitch whine of the other 2 at equibalent air flow (higher setting) Because it moves more air, you can place the cheapo fan a bit further, reducing even further its noise. The other 2 sound like an AC compressor and I really don't like that sound. Certainly that's subjective, but I'd go with the normal fan.

Thanks so much - great to have you here!
They really do look awesome.
Amazing channel!
How long until filter needs to be replaced?
Room about 30m2
It does it based on time running, about a year.
But can you play doom on it?
I live on the third floor of an apartment with no A/C and no window! Please help! would you recommend the BP01 or the AM06 ?
If cooling is the goal get AM06 without a doubt. It pushes a huge amount air around and fast. Having said that, if there’s no window you won’t be encouraging any cooler air in so ultimately you’re still pushing hot air around. If you splash some water on your face you will find the airflow from the fan very cooling though.
Can u use the air purifier separate from the cooler. Does it help with pet dander an dust thanks
I have a really dusty room, would It help reduce the dust in the air??
If you want to clear a whole room I would go for something like this one ruclips.net/video/eCMtocnuKTc/видео.html
I’ve got DPO1 cool me fan it is 12 mths old but will not turn on where the numbers shoe there is a triangle with a question mark what can I do to reset the fan ?
Not sure sorry, give them a call, they should be able to help.
Keep it up.
Great feedback many thanks! yeah it's hot here at the moment so have it on level 3 today! Will be doing some more videos on using Dyson fans soon too.
I’m planning to get one but my room gets dusty not sure if it will diminish the filter much faster or not.
I’ve never seen it in this color. Do they have it in their website?
In the U.K. it’s only available direct from them yeah.
Ben Vallack I figured as much. Thanks.
Great Vid! I’m thinking buying one to cool my loft room.
@@BenVallack Thank you for your explanation! It helps!
i only need my room to cool down, just like what an air con does, does this thing do it?
Nope. This cools you not the room. See this video for details: ruclips.net/video/vHDK5OdLkpk/видео.html
Do you mean the turning Motor does noise ? Or the fan itself
The fault I had was the fan itself, i.e it did it even when not oscillating.
@@BenVallack I sent back mine itself once. It was on but it did nothing.
4:35 The ultimate battle.
thank you !
where you get the black one from ?
I think its an option only available direct from Dyson.
Thanks for your comments! Yeah I would say be careful hanging on with an old filter though - mine looked pretty gross! 😂
Hi - I got mine today and on straight forward plug and play shows an error message - not sure how to solve
Give them a call - their support is really good.
@@BenVallack thanks - been on hold for 40 mins now - guess its the situation we are in right now
Which country are you in out of interest? That's definitely not good!
@@BenVallack I am in London - just got through and had the worst customer service - told me to send it back :(
Uh thats a real shame - hopefully the replacement will resolve it!
Can I hang this on wall or ceiling??? Don’t like it sitting next to bed
Looks really nice on a bedside table. Have mine in the bedroom in the summer.
@@BenVallack I don’t think you read my question. I can see how it looks.
Great video. Some measurements of the dB levels would have been especially interesting with the comparisons you were running.
Mine is on my bedside table, level 1. Brilliant!
The cool me fan on speed 10 sounds like its about to take off
Yes very loud indeed!
Interestingly it's the fact I can have it at that power without it going in my eyes due to the focused airflow that it is it's real merit
At that price, smart features should be built in.
subscribing just for the jawline
I’m dubious of the build quality of Dyson items now since he moved the operation outside the U.K.. 🤔
Yeah I'd quite like to do a comparison after moving them so they all sound the same. In real life that low pitch hum does sound very annoying though!
Considering how pricey anything from Dyson is I'd expect a lot more
very nice. unlike dyson so many ads and fake acting.. and no comparison video
Had to swap it out twice ? That's a big alert ! Hmm.
Yeah net sure if thats still an issue or not these days. Good service though so if it sounds good in principle I think you're ok to give it a shot.
The motor making a strange noise is a bit of a put off, as I want to buy it once and not have to return it.
Its Ironic Dayson started business to kill the consumable vacuum cleaner bags and now they put that on their fans !
Lol yeah
