Great day out, and well documented!
I remember that old highway. It was definitely the only way to Gosford from Sydney. I haven’t been along there since the old family Xmas holiday drive to Umina 50 years ago as a kid. Bumper to bumper all the way with us kids giving it a lot of “are we there yet?!”😂
Thanks for the memories, and that ride may well be on my to do list next time I’m in Sydney!

Haha, it reminds me of the road to Port Macquarie. Where everyone is just trying not to be sick 🤢. Much nicer on a bike.

My family used to go up the Pacific Highway before the M1 was opened. Those roads were always slow packed during the holidays. Some memories. You should stop for a pie at Pie in the Sky next time.

Been to Pie a few times. Same as the one at Calga interchange. Cool old school roadhouses.

The ever present cyclists dilemma, what wear!! There is no right or wrong so long as you’re comfortable. 😳 looked like a great loop. 👍🏻

It’s real. Great to hit some new tarmac.

If you are pushed for time, turn right into Woy Woy Road and head for the ferry that way. If you aren’t and the legs are good head for the Scenic Road through MacMasters Beach and Killcare. Get the ferry back from Wagstaffe.

Ah i know that feeling about chasing the ferry. First time riding in Sydney, i decided to take this loop. Coming from Bali, i forgot to update my Garmin map, and end up having to look at my phone all the time for direction.
I arrived at Etalong beach at 2.30 PM, and then utterly devastated when they said that the ferry is not going to Palm beach anymore and i have to go to Patonga instead. I was super stressed because I got office dinner at 6 in CBD. Thankfuly I catched the ferry just when they about to depart, met a super helpful guy that told me that i can catch another ferry at Manly beach. He ended up show me the way, and I arrived just in time before my office dinner.
It was epic ride, 170 km, 2200m elev gain, 8 hours, and first time riding abroad 😆😆😆😆

Down here in the Yarra Valley most of my riding is done in sub 10° temps. 16° is heat stroke territory, lol. Enjoyed your vid on Peaks and this equally as good. Subbed.

Thanks Mark. Sounds like you have the english treatment down there. I guess it is all relative, you acclimate to what you have. Thanks for the sub, glad you are enjoying the content.

Great ride!! A ferry ride and a view of some stunning beaches is a great way to mix things up.. can you explain what voodoo you perform to get a free pass until midday from your wife and kids?? 9am is about the limit for me.. even then I’ve got some sucking up to do.. 😂

Haha voodoo. My wife does a lot of exercise too to it is an exchange system. But I couldn't get away with adventures like this every week. Sunday standard is 3h and as early as possible. The only problem is when 6h rides turn into 8h rides (e.g. my RNP adventure).

I remember when I went to the UK in 2019 in May. The temp never got above 10c. I was out on the bike looking like the Michelin Man with the amount of gear I had on. The locals stripped to skin suits. Was in one group who commented on the amount I was wearing. When I said I was from Australia, there were lots of I see,s. Sad thing is that I am from Yorkshire originaly, so have got pretty soft. The Fiend from the North over there which is a wind, straight off the Arctic. I get the feeling over there summer lasts about 3 days in July. Blink and you miss it.

Yeah I watch videos from @TheCyclingTattooist and see how rugged up they are, it's a different world. But it is all relative. In Queensland anything under 20 is a cold day 😜

That's an impressive loop. Have accidentally caught a ferry here in Melbourne. Decided to ride home on a more interesting route and didn't realise it included going on a super cute pedestrian/bike ferry. Debit card to the rescue.
Your bike adventures are inspiring me to get a better bike.

It was better than expected. The Patonga detour adds a lot of value (and a climb). Ferry loops make for a great adventure. Glad I am inspiring you to ride more!

Apologies for our Central Coast drivers!

I think there are pockets of aggressive drivers everywhere. Locals probably know the spots and steer clear, tourists go right into the lions den.
