5:05 Juliette only survived because 'They're good in supply'. She only survived because Walker made arrangements for her to actually have a 'real', high quality, efficient hazmat suit. Also, maybe the fake images turn off simply because Juliette is no longer on her own silo grounds and she's thus outside of broadcast range.
I honestly think the scene cut back to the real environment because she was out of range. Something from the silo broadcast that image and once she got past the tree, which nobody else had that broadcast signal was out of range.
The thing I keep puzzling over is that so many elements we see seem to contradict each other. For example: The silo is massive and obviously built for habitation and well-designed in advance. It's not like this is just some repurposed missile silo that people took shelter in at a moment's notice during a catastrophe, and it couldn't have been built overnight. But the apparent conditions outside the silo certainly imply the aftermath of nuclear war or some similar calamity. If the calamity was unexpected, then they couldn't have devised the silo to escape it, because it would have taken too long; the calamity would have killed them before they could build it. So... that means they knew the calamity was coming, either because they had forewarning of it or because the makers of the silo also triggered the calamity. If they had forewarning, and they just built/sheltered in the silo to survive (with no ulterior motives), then it's hard to imagine why they would do things like deliberately suppress/erase their own history, deliberately restrict technologies like video cameras, etc. So it seems most likely to me that the makers of the silo created the conditions outside (whether they're worldwide or more local). And the only rationale I can think of for making the residents of the silo think they're the only people there are (i.e., not telling them of the other silos), forget their history, suppress technology, etc. is that this is all some kind of experiment. Perhaps each silo houses a population built around different rules and constraints, just to see how people react to them. A sort of lab for discovering the best ways to control and manipulate a population, maybe?
Great ideas here. The "experiment" theory is a strong one, IMO because, as you laid out, it speaks to motives better than any other that I've come across so far. I'm sure most of us are eager to learn about the exact conditions of the other Silos because it will fill in some of the massive gaps in story related to the origins of the Silo. Until then, when you look at what we're given, so much of it doesn't add up if the official story is true. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me.
This is my own theory too. I was thinking why the separation of the silos are so crucial? If they meant for sheer survival than they should be able to trade and talk to each other, not to mention avoid inbreeding. The only explanation i could think of that they are control groups to each other. And since the "control room" has newer tech than the rest of the silo, someone must have interviene somehow.
@@zsukocsisnegal4276 tbh I think the separation of the silos is to avoid one thing going wrong wiping out the entire population Something like "don't put all your eggs in one basket" So, even if one o the silos went through infighting, an epidemic or whatever, it wouldn't wipe out everybody

Theres more 18 silos or more, suggested by the 18 numbered harddrive with all the blue prints of thier silo, plus the keychain that lit up numbered 18 with the special key.
I think an irradiated/poisonous paradise can absolutely happen, plants and animals have a much better chance to adapt to it, and not every toxin deadly to us is deadly to them. Protect people from a beautyfull but deadly hell is a great idea. Reminds me of the second quartell quell from hunger games, the arena was the most beautyfull place ever, but everything was deadly, flowers? Poison. Water? Poison. Butterflies? Murderflies
I believe the only reason Bernard went into the server room was to see what Jules could through her visor and to see how far she would make it . And possibly to notify other silos that he had a runner. The hologram quit when Jules went over the hill because she was out of range of the servers transmission and with that being said she could then see all the other silos and that’s what Bernard meant… That’s what he meant when he said “she knows” Bernard new Jules knew it was for sure a hologram when she was trying to place the badge on sheriff Becker. Even though Jules knew that the image that she was viewing through her visor was fake from the start. I believe, Bernard lost connection with what he could see through Jules visor when she made it to the entry point of silo 18. So Bernard thinks she’s probably dead because of all the dead bodies and the carnage that she had to navigate through and he possibly saw the doors that were barricading her out. There is no way of knowing how long Bernard couldn’t seen the feed from Jules helmet. Myself? I think it died as soon as Jewels got to the entryway of silo 17.
the Silo seems to borrow somewhat from the Matrix series. Juliette seems to be following the same path as Neo and Bernard seems to be similar to a cross between Agent Smith and the Architect. The set up of the silo is the system of control and the occasional cleanings and uprisings are a means of population control with a dollop of eugenics mixed in. the question is, if the silos were built to enable humanity to survive an apocalypse, then why are there multiple silos so close to each other. Prudence would suggest that the silos should be widely separated so that a natural disaster that happens at one, doesn’t take out the others. also consider that when a cleaner goes outside that they are doused in a toxic substance that causes the suit failure.
Thank you so much for making a theory vid on this! I only watched the series because of your previous vids and I was waiting. Lol stalker!!!! It’s a good thing tho 😂
the creator guy who answered questions on Twitter said the cafe glitch was just the writers teasing the viewers and he wasn't too fond of it being put in the show. also Jul said the next season was going to get wet so I imagine she figures out how to get back into her silio via the secret tunnel
The large metal door may have led to other active or inactive silos based on power generation, but it was closed and flooded for unknown reasons over 200 years ago. It possible connected to the other silo.
I believe that the tunnel in the depths of silo 18 possibly connect to silo 17 and the reason that in the depths 18 it is flooded is because silo 17 is flooded. Just my thoughts…
Spoiler…. The solo was being watched by people outside the silo. That is why turning off cameras so risky. They let the relics out to see how people behaved and to give reason to send people out to clean. The image in the suit was to guarantee they would want the others to see and wipe the lens. The tape saved her from the gas on the way out. Outside won’t be safe for a while. All silos not meant to survive.
This video is not for those people. Anyone who read the books and is satisfied in assuming they know what will happen, wouldn't be too interested in watching a video on theories.
The gas that’s released when they open the airlock is argon to push the bad air back and not let it rush in. Common decon chamber procedure. But there is a caveat to it that you did well to pick up on. The suits are designed to end people but in the sense that they’re made purposefully to fail exactly when they do. The video is solely broadcast to the cleaner with the express purpose of motivating them to clean the sensors. They weren’t supposed to find the video so much as the code used to create the overlay. Once they reveal why they can’t go outside, it’ll open up so many possibilities, the number of possible theories will multiply exponentially ✌️
Depends on where the signal comes from. We don't exactly know the source, only the timing. It might not come directly from Silo 18, but some other point. It could also be localized to the suit, but Bernard has the ability to kill the feed via the server. Other theories suggest he was attempting doing the very opposite; trying to keep her paradise ARG up, but she was out of reach before he could do so.
I somehow missed the significance of that rush to the server room. Good eye. I got impatient and read the plot synopsis of the books on Wikipedia, but the TV series might go in a different direction.
Hey, Rendall! Yeah, I think the general theory works, if that scene and its timing means what it suggests. There are other theories that read it differently, speculating that he was trying to keep the augmented reality up on her visor, but she went out range of the signal by that time. Who knows? Right now, this one seems plausible enough.

Look, you are complicating this: The false image in the helmet was designed to inspire and give false hope to the cleaner before their death. This in turn would inspire the cleaner to clean one last time. Because the tapes were replaced, and Julie made it past the tree, this false hope was shattered after walking away from the signal range revealing the actual world and the other silos. She was not meant to see these Silos. Bernard is managing Silo number 18. Most likely warning other Silo managers about a her walking around. What I like to know is, where did that Hard drive with a number 18 come from.
According to the books - the area around the silo field is kept desolate by the cloud of nanites Silo 1 keeps releasing to ensure the illusion of a wasteland is maintained.

I'd have read them by now, if not for these videos. I don't want to spoil the mystery while I'm making them, but you can bet I'm buying the set as soon as the last season airs.
when Juliette got out and she looked at the tree, I kept chanting to myself "please don't let the birds fly by" because then I'd know the utopian version was a lie... and it was! There is no way a flock of birds always fly by whenever someone is sent to clean lol
Not when they turn the power back on but when they first turn it off it shows the people if the cafeteria and on the display there is the tree and green. So is the display in their helmets or outside in general. I think they are in a huge experimental dome
I don't have a theory. I have a comment about one apparent design flaw of the entite silo system. They should have built the silo system so that each lead/shadow would be in direct communication with their counterparts. This way, they can counsel each other in order to problem solve and share information. Even a silo going dark would be valuable information so that every other silo would know how to recognize it ahead of time and correct it as quietly as possible.
Chernobyl is a prime example of what happens over time in a radiated area. Plants, animals and soil are toxic, but surviving. What’s unreal is over 150+ years later, because of rains & winds, trees, grass, etc. would have regrown over everything. Including the Cityscape in the background. Yet she sees nothing but barren ground from nuclear blasts. Story telling at its worst. As for Juliet, the proper tape sealed her suit from air borne contamination. And now we know they can communicate with the 1st silo which is connected to all silos. Based on the drawings, my guess is all the silos connect to the 1st silo by the tunnel. The other issue in the writing & story telling is the depth of the silos. There would be pressure differences going that deep. Especially in water. That’s very deep for an air hose to pump air. The air pump would have to be massive. But it’s a story to entertain, so realism is trash. In real life, mechanics would hold all the power since they literally control the power. Shut it off, and the rest would panic in the dark. They would simply demand “management” be removed or “retired” by the people above if they want power.
Im leaning towards a long game experiment... Premise, surviving WW3... Imagine building all the silos in an area secluded enough to Bomb the whole area around it to subject it to radioactive conditions indefinitely. Perhaps Australia. Holston died with his helmet off, poison atmosphere cause of a calamity, unlikely. Radiation however... Underneath, water likely an aquifer able to supply experiment indefinitely... The giant doorway mentioned and the tunnel shown in the maps off the harddrive, probably leads to the other silos... Some things to wonder about? Did the other silos have rebellions, pacts, and limitations on technologies as well like the magnification, and no transportation my mechanical means... The generational gaps in technology between the silo, and the listeners is pretty wide to... Everyone had machintosh commodore PCs from the 80-90s and IT had access to closer to more modern surveillance technology and the means to deploy the systems covertly... The relics do present issues, but if its all an experiment being monitored from say china, US or wherever, the goal is gonna be control and maintaining population... Theres probably more firewalls of knowledge above bernard and while he probably has communication to higher authorities, he probably doesnt have access to the other silos... An experiment would probably keep them insulated from knowimg about the other to keep the data derived contained from correlated factors... on some level there maybe information related back and forth, but compartmentalizing everything as much as possible would be desired from an observational standpoint... My intrest in the show came from a realization that most people just accept the way things are and there are far less of us who question things beyond what everyone else just accepts... At some point a rebellion will happen and those who submit will always be slaves to there own acceptance regardless of who come out in the end. History doesnt repeat, it Rhymes and Karma isnt a bi+ch, its a mirror IMHO... Cant wait for season 2..😉
My guess is that that gas just before she goes out is not poison it's a solvent for the tape so that the glue breakdown and make the suite open to real bad air. Because I think she is still in the silo and needs to get out of the Dome to really be out. What do you guys think
the white gas that is pumped in pressure chamber before the silo exit door is a posionous gas, 1. the judicial low quality heat tape permits that exit chamber white gas poision inside the cleaners suit giving - 15 min before the cleaner dies out of poisonous gas, thats how houston and his wife dies 2. the martha heat tape[ that was switched by her wife in the 1Oth episode] prevents the exit chamber white posion to get in the juliette's suit and so she survives. 3. the atomosphere out side Silo is okay and breathable , only barren land, without water but there is plenty of water underground, so the land outside can be cultivated 4. the suit helmet projection is just to get cleaner exited, clean the camera lens and move forward walking. so the people watching in silo see the sad video story that earth atmosphere poision is what killing them without creating a doubt about exit chamber white gas poison. 5. incentive for Silo governement is they are the defacto rulers and power holders without any work to do, if people escape then the goverment people will have to work without any privileges, power and free sandwiches. just kidding 5. Bernard belongs to ruling class who are permitted to produce max children n rule [curious people are prohibited from having childrens, they are threat to the illusion], Bernard mentions IT dept decides where the power is distributed[meaning the resources of silo are distributed like large houses, good food, booz, premium jobs] and as he opens and stares at the big room with lights in the end of 1Oth episode is a hibernation chamber , where the capitalist who funded to build the silos are sleeping [aka the founders]. there incentive is they are ruler of the silo of 1O,OOO people. thats it like the "Fallout" series capitalist. now Bernard will wake up few of them from hibernation to crush the new n upcoming rebillion as Juliette survived.
7:34 You talk about when they turn on the power but never talk about when they turned off the power the graan landscape popped up for a sec!!!!!! It does still fit in with the theory you say after but it seems no one is talking about this!!
Ok, hear me out, the silo, is actually inside a bigger silo, which in turn is inside an even bigger silo, all of which failed, leaving this "tiny" silo all that is left.
I still dont understand why elevators and magnifying glasses are forbidden in the silos? Why is that? Even if the world is actually apocalyptic, why are those things so strictly illegal to build
Elevators are banned to make the silo seem bigger. Being stuck forever in a bunker that takes several days to cross is better than spending your life somewhere where you can reach any place in minutes. Also, breaks up the population into several smaller communities.
What I don’t understand is why they show a barren land and dead bodies vision to the people inside the silo from the screens and once they step outside they show another vision with trees and birds?? SOMEONE EXPLAIN PLEASE MY BRAIN HURTS
I thought it was to get people to clean the cameras to show the people inside the silo that is beautiful and clean outside. There is no other incentive to get people thrown out to clean them.
What created the craters in the first place... 😀. Why there's so many😀.. Would I finally see some Ferguson skin😀... Now that's she's outside😀. It's breathable outside. No nead need for stupid hazmat😀. I demand skin😀

@@nautilusfiles wouldn't that make it another fallout then?
This is my own theory too. I was thinking why the separation of the silos are so crucial? If they meant for sheer survival than they should be able to trade and talk to each other, not to mention avoid inbreeding. The only explanation i could think of that they are control groups to each other.
And since the "control room" has newer tech than the rest of the silo, someone must have interviene somehow.
@@zsukocsisnegal4276 tbh I think the separation of the silos is to avoid one thing going wrong wiping out the entire population
Something like "don't put all your eggs in one basket"
So, even if one o the silos went through infighting, an epidemic or whatever, it wouldn't wipe out everybody
guys do you know about the Metro game series.İn metro exodus computer game, people lives in tunnels and many years they think they are alone and they are the only one who survived. Then main character arthur shows up,learns the truth. The truth is;there is other peoples, communites who is survived, but the mans on the top doesnt wanna learn people this truth.I think its familiar what is happening in Silo too. There is absouletly other peoples and communites, and the mans on the top doesnt want people to learn this fact.
Theres more 18 silos or more, suggested by the 18 numbered harddrive with all the blue prints of thier silo, plus the keychain that lit up numbered 18 with the special key.
Remember how the key chain glowed? What do you think caused that ?
@@Gretasmale probably just a emergency thing, every other silo leader gets alerted to an issue that needs their collective resolution(i assume)
Or maybe the VR projection just stops when you walk away from the sensor? You ever walk off with a Bluetooth speaker?
I think an irradiated/poisonous paradise can absolutely happen, plants and animals have a much better chance to adapt to it, and not every toxin deadly to us is deadly to them. Protect people from a beautyfull but deadly hell is a great idea. Reminds me of the second quartell quell from hunger games, the arena was the most beautyfull place ever, but everything was deadly, flowers? Poison. Water? Poison. Butterflies? Murderflies
The spray is so suspect
I'm surprised that people who have read the books have not spoiled this thread. The speculation is fun.
Another thing that needs to be examined is the ban on microscope magnification.
It still could be safe outside. The better tape used could have protected from the gas in the decontamination chamber.
the Silo seems to borrow somewhat from the Matrix series.
Could be silos all over the world
Thank you so much for making a theory vid on this! I only watched the series because of your previous vids and I was waiting. Lol stalker!!!! It’s a good thing tho 😂
Thanks, Starr. Glad you enjoyed it! There's a lot more of that coming soon :)
the creator guy who answered questions on Twitter said the cafe glitch was just the writers teasing the viewers and he wasn't too fond of it being put in the show.
also Jul said the next season was going to get wet so I imagine she figures out how to get back into her silio via the secret tunnel
So no one is gonna mention the “big metal door” at the bottom connects the silos?
Having theories about a popular book adaptation can be fun but a lot of people you explain your theory to will know the answers.
This video is not for those people. Anyone who read the books and is satisfied in assuming they know what will happen, wouldn't be too interested in watching a video on theories.
I'm having fun watching people's theorys , it like reading the books again.@@nautilusfiles
The Nautilus strikes again!
If the feed in her helmet of the dystopia is fake wouldn't the connection drop eventually as she walks further from the silo?
Depends on where the signal comes from. We don't exactly know the source, only the timing. It might not come directly from Silo 18, but some other point. It could also be localized to the suit, but Bernard has the ability to kill the feed via the server. Other theories suggest he was attempting doing the very opposite; trying to keep her paradise ARG up, but she was out of reach before he could do so.
Depends if it is wifi or Bluetooth
I somehow missed the significance of that rush to the server room. Good eye. I got impatient and read the plot synopsis of the books on Wikipedia, but the TV series might go in a different direction.
Hey, Rendall! Yeah, I think the general theory works, if that scene and its timing means what it suggests. There are other theories that read it differently, speculating that he was trying to keep the augmented reality up on her visor, but she went out range of the signal by that time. Who knows? Right now, this one seems plausible enough.
The Apple seeds are used to make poison to kill them in the suit.
Great video! 6:25 😂!
Hey, Eva!😊That was one of the greatest laughs I've ever heard. It just had to be in the video!
can't wait for s2. hopefully it answers a lot of the questions. great video 💙 would you ever consider making Snowpiercer (the show) videos even though we're a couple of seasons in?
Thanks! I haven't seen the TV series, so I can't say for sure but if I like it, I will consider it. I wish I had time to get to all the shows I want to talk about lol
@@nautilusfiles ty for even considering it, but absolutely no pressure. I'll take any content you make even shows I havent seen. I appreciate ur channel so much, its the best thing I stumbled on this year and I cant wait to see which other videos are in ur list!!!
Look, you are complicating this:
The false image in the helmet was designed to inspire and give false hope to the cleaner before their death.
8:07 it happens before not after they fix the generator you even have the wrong clip. When they Turned off the power the Display shows green pretty flowers right before it goes dark
but no one in the series ever mentions it
I couldn’t wait and read the books 📚 and had to find out. The nice thing with the books and TV, the TV is different than show.
Gotta be some knowledge inside the silo…who’s manufacturing the holo-display helmets?
Not when they turn the power back on but when they first turn it off it shows the people if the cafeteria and on the display there is the tree and green. So is the display in their helmets or outside in general. I think they are in a huge experimental dome
If you are enjoying having this be a question do NOT read the books yet. unless you begin with the older versions of the Silo saga titled WOOL.
All I can say is, this is in the book. Hugh Howey's work is extraordinary and, as he describes it himself, very dense prose.
Isn't this based on the books?
i think maybe he changed it so she would come back and be living proof that the outside is not safe
What do you guys think
the white gas that is pumped in pressure chamber before the silo exit door is a posionous gas, 1. the judicial low quality heat tape permits that exit chamber white gas poision inside the cleaners suit giving - 15 min before the cleaner dies out of poisonous gas, thats how houston and his wife dies
2. the martha heat tape[ that was switched by her wife in the 1Oth episode] prevents the exit chamber white posion to get in the juliette's suit and so she survives.
3. the atomosphere out side Silo is okay and breathable , only barren land, without water but there is plenty of water underground, so the land outside can be cultivated
4. the suit helmet projection is just to get cleaner exited, clean the camera lens and move forward walking. so the people watching in silo see the sad video story that earth atmosphere poision is what killing them without creating a doubt about exit chamber white gas poison.
5. incentive for Silo governement is they are the defacto rulers and power holders without any work to do, if people escape then the goverment people will have to work without any privileges, power and free sandwiches.
just kidding
I think it's nanomachines, son.🙃

I still dont understand why elevators and magnifying glasses are forbidden in the silos? Why is that? Even if the world is actually apocalyptic, why are those things so strictly illegal to build

Elevators are banned to make the silo seem bigger. Being stuck forever in a bunker that takes several days to cross is better than spending your life somewhere where you can reach any place in minutes. Also, breaks up the population into several smaller communities.

In 2345, Juliette makes her journey from Silo 18 to Silo 17. Victor convinced Thurman and Erskine to implement Operation Fifty: destroy human civilization before weaponized nanobots did so, leaving the occupants of the Silos as the only surviving humans while Earth's surface is thoroughly cleansed by benign nanobots. Donald uncovers that only one Silo out of all 50 is going to be permitted to resettle the world, since Thurman wants to guarantee that no knowledge of nanotechnology or nuclear weapons persists; on E-Day in 2550, the fortunate Silo will be selected by a computer algorithm evaluating numerous variables, and the others will be terminated. Donald decides to avert this so that all Silos live.
Everything goes to the bottom which in this case is the mines so what are they mining for and what do they do with “unneeded” resources one theory is the “leader” of each silo controls it to mine for people who live on the outside and maybe it’s a economic/population control or political even, some sort of world order
I also think there are people living outside

They're on a spaceship. It's always a spaceship in these scenarios. Even when it's not.
Why is no one talking about, where the steam is coming from that powers the generator, it's a plot hole, or something the writers never delved into

So, where did that rabbit come from?
Erasing history, artifacts, etc. is what Israel is doing right now, BTW.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hey, GG! Oh, we're going to get into spaceship theory soon. It's a good one. Yeah, the existence of the rabbit and the importance of relics in the story are the only bits that are hard to work out, if it were true. The emphasis on "preservation" in certain lines of dialogue give off "bomb shelter" vibes. It's just as likely that they are in some kind of larger vessel, with a canopy or "sky box" that fakes the dystopian vista lol. It just seems odd that they [Bernie] are so hard-up to keep everyone inside when that shouldn't really require a while lot of arm twisting, given the circumstance. There's a greater ruse afoot!
Also, 100% about the use of the same playbook being used IRL.
Wrong. Israel is defending itself against a murderous people who want all Jews killed. Those same people want all non-Muslims converted or murdered. Get real. Remember who destroyed priceless historical sites and artifacts in Egypt and Syria?
What a nice catch on the rabbit! It reminded me of the name of Juliette and what a big deal is when someone knows Romeo and Juliet. I think Jules's mom named her after an ancient love story because her flamekeeper spirit!
What I don't like in the spaceship theory is that sometimes there are no stars, that suggests me that they have clouds. You can't travel so fast that sometimes you have a sky full of stars and next day its totally empty because of the lack of stars
