I have a 12 year old coton. We live in Denmark, where they are a bit more common. She’s my first dog, and I love her so much, she’s like my child. She just has such a fun personality, and she just sneaks into everyone’s hearts, of whoever she meets.. ❤️
Yes, everything that was mentioned about the behavior was true. Also, his coat is super soft and he almost never sheds even though he's just a little puppy. We just recently bought our dog and he weighed 2 pounds when we got him. He is adorable and very charming. He loves to chase things and roll around. He is also a little vocal and it seems almost as if he can speak, so I talk to him often. He has been a joy to train so far. He is 4.5 months old and we've had him for about 6 weeks. Currently, he weighs 6 pounds. So far, Toby knows his name, heel, how to sit, lay down, and stand up on his hind legs upon command for a treat. He really is a very fast learner and he has a lot of energy. We have a lot of toys for him and he chases a ball that I've gotten also. Outside, he is easily distracted and very observant because he hasn't been out much beyond our courtyard until about 2 weeks ago when he got his rabies vaccine. Since then, we've been more active then ever! I've taken him jogging in the parks and I've been trying to work on his balance. He's learning so fast, so I want us to advance as best as we can. Thanks for the great video!
I have a Coton girl puppy. She is turning 1 yrs old on March 13th, tomorrow. She was a land shark biting on our ankles till about 4 months old, she can do many commands including dancing, loves to sit in my lap, runs super fast, greets with huge excitement when I come back home, and still kneebles on my hands to show affection. We had to get her shaved except long on the ears and tail, and she looks gorgeous. Couldn't keep her hair long. Despite brushing she kept getting matted. She is a sweet girl and brings us joy. ❤
I have a Coton and did a lot of research before getting one. I had a Bolognese (rarer than a Coton) so I knew about this Bichon. I have never heard a Coton called a "Coty." We refer to them as "Cotons." The info here for the most part is spot on. They are lovable, devoted, intelligent, people oriented, clownish, happy dogs. They have been bred for intelligence, playfulness and affection. This is a very good small dog for families with children (as long as dog is trained properly). They are very easy to train. They follow you EVERYWHERE. I would have Neighborhood Watch Meetings in my home with upwards of 15 people in my living room and my Coton loved it. My dog would greet each person. Even NON dog people were taken in with his affection. Neighborhood children would come by and ask if my dog could come out to play. The drawback with them being so loving is potential theft. I had 2 instances where my dog was nearly taken. Be mindful. Separation anxiety is not mentioned here. They will cry when you leave. I have a Yorkie and Affenpinscher who don't cry but my Coton does. The cost of a Coton is more like $2k. The breeders will grill you like a hamburger. We are cautious about who gets one. You may well be denied. We only want the best for our dogs. Expect to be put on a waiting list.
Thank you for taking time to write everything you experienced with your coton We are planning to get a coton How do you deal with its separation anxiety??
@@kranthikumarkondappagari1546 sounds kind weird but my mom would leave the tv on as like background nose for her and she would relax at home. It also helps that me and my parents do have a set schedule so it’s kinda like she knows when we have to leave and she knows we’ll be back. Lots of love lots of kisses and lots of toys!! And i think it’s really important to have them trained to leave them in the house alone with out a kennel that way they arnt stressed or locked up and they can just walk around the house and maybe chill on the couch waiting for u to come home :)
@@kranthikumarkondappagari1546 I just stay home with my baby, I know most people can't do that but this breed really needs a constant companion. We have a 9 year old black & white cotton, well mostly grey and white now. We live near Dallas, Texas U.S.A. She (Rosy) is such a goofball. She is the queen of the house and her brother and sister furbaby know it.
My precious dog was a stray, he was pre loved and I knew it immediately because he was trained and so smart. The very first thing that I thought about him was that he was 'clownish' he had a very odd personality. He is a wonderful dog, sweet, smart, well behaved, funny. He barked at a tree for the longest time. He loves cats and will not kill anything, not even a bug he has never growled at me. I love my Otis. I've had him since 2013. I searched for his previous owners but to no avail, that is how I discovered his breed. I really feel for the people that lost him. I know that he misses them. We take great care of him. We love him but acknowledge that he had someone before us that loved him. He had a scar from a collar. I live in Alabama. I wouldn't want to give him up but I would love to see him reunited with his original owners. I feel that his owners have died. Could be wrong but I'll take great care for anybody claiming him.
Collar scar does not sound like whoever had him treated him well. Probably a couple or family & someone did not want him so they drove a distance & dropped him off. Animals see things humans do not see so he was not just barking at the tree. Glad to see he has a great adopted owner!
I have a 3yo male. He’s got so much personality. Very lively, very proud when he walks, very vocal ( not necessarily barking). His most unique trait is spinning in circles before he poops, and when he wants something. Too funny! First time he did it I thought he was having a seizure 😮.
I have coton and i just love her! He's always so happy and waiting you at home etc! We had 2 options (1) Bichon Frise (2) Coton de tulear andlcukilty we chose the 2! Bichon frise is a lovely breed too!
My partner has a cotton and as someone who has always preferred bigger dogs she is the sweetest little baby ever they are such affectionate and amazing dogs 🥹❤️🐕 and after being introduced to this breed they are one of my favourites and we plan on getting more in the future ❤️🥰
I have a coton. He is taller than the ones in this video, though. He DOES have some health problems, but is still happy all the same. He is actually kind of scared of water. He is always happy and frisky, doesn’t chew anything, and is hypoallergenic. We named him Octane after all his energy. He is older and is grey and white. He is very attached to us and scratches the door when one of us leaves the house.
I love my Coton de tulear soo much. “Bella” is the easiest dog I’ve ever had. She just wants to be close to me all the time. NEVER demanding. I think she thinks she’s a herd dog for some reason and the family is her herd 😂:. She’s two years old and still bites my ankles to get me going. She gets upset if I move around too much and if family members are not United all the time. She is nervous around new people, especially men, but once she knows people, they become part of her herd ❤️. To this day, she’s been super healthy, unlike her French bulldog and Doberman siblings, who currently have a variety of health issues.
I have a male, all white coton who is 17 months old. The one feature he has displayed since day one is the need to be first at everything. He is very assertive and assumes he is preeminent in all things. So it makes him fair selfish. He is very sweet and loves to kiss. It is work keeping the eye area white. And there was no mention of their vocalizations. He makes lots of cute high pitched sounds all day. His name is Halo Augustus.
Our Coton, Ellie, fits your description: clownish, super friendly, walks on two legs, jumps straight up to your arms, is a Houdini escape artist! She is white and cinnamon in color and loves to swim in a pool or the lake. Her favorite pastime is getting bunnies out of bushes while walking on her leash. She watches them all day on her Pearce through the window. She doesn’t like be alone. She’s learned English commands very well. Pees on a puppy pad and pooes outside or right next to a potty.
I'd like to know from all of you about the dogs love of cats. My male Coton has nurtured kittens and has an absolute love of cats, so much so that he cannot bear it when the cat is out of food or water. It is one of the most touching things I've ever seen in my life.
My coton hates when i leave him alone , but when i get home Milo my coton starts jumping and stands on his back legs jumping and barking at the same time , I love him so much!
Most of the time you can get them for free here in Madagascar, and if you have to buy it is about 50$ . I have 2 as gift as the previous had so many of them .
Recently it was suggested to me that the dog I've adopted 3 years ago is actually coton. Mostly becouse of his fur and overall appearance. Yep, it's possible, but I still believe he's a mixed breed regardless, course he's too big and heavy according to coton standard. On top of that, he's quite a bully and excellent hunter...
Our Conte Passed Away at age 8. We are wondering if he wasn't Diabetic. Anyways Charlie loved his toys. He would gather every toy at night and put them in a Dog's Eye View.
I have 3 cotons , the mum and 2 siblings. My mother has the other 2 from the litter. The 2 younger ones are very cat like. Incredible balance can stop on a six pence. Sleep high up. Or behind something. Makes me think of their jungle days. Very intelligent. Nothing like any other dog l have owned. Far more advanced. The mum, she rings a service bell with her paw to go out. 2 rings.
Yes, at 4.5 months, Toby knows his name, sit, lay down, stand up and he's learning to heel upon command (although he often does anyway). He's super smart!
By mixing a Bichon with a Yorkie I got a similar type of dog, it's mentioned that the Coton is actually a Bichon-Terrier mix so.... That coat is not high maintenance, it's super high maintenance, really beware! Don't let it get wet and dry on its own always brush it dry or blow dry it or you'll end up in fur hell.
I have one.... she fits most of this description except she’s a stubborn lazy brat😭😭 gotta be careful Bc she will try to but ur finger. But with me and my family and everyone’s she’s close with she’s like a little cuddle bear. She definitely was full of energy, she’s 5 now and very LAZY haha
My best friend has this breed of dog and it likes to jump on me to lick my face, he also likes to stand oh his hind legs every time I hold his chew on top of him and when he does hold his chew toy he would look at me for sec basically thinking to stay put or to run and he only runs when I chase him he basically thinks that I wanna steal his chew toy and finally he likes to play tug of war
