I have owned 6 Tacomas now. People will all say I will never buy a 4cyl turbo...Toyota has been making 4 cylinder turbos for decades.. I have a 24 Tacoma manual..The transmissions are made by Aisin not Toyota and it's about 15 of them out of about 100k sold. I think this 24 is the best one I have owned out of all of them..See what Ford or Chev does if your transmissions goes. We all know Toyota stands by what they sell and will take care of us if something goes wrong..
I own a 4 cyl turbo in a mazda and I am ready to go back to NA. I don't like the lag. I drive it in manual mode to have better control of it. Of course, tough luck for me unless I go EV since NA is on its way out.
Just like the Grand Highlander and Tundra and that’s the reason why Toyota is consistently #2 in dealership experience just behind Lexus and after all, Toyotas goal was to always make their customers happy and stress free
Everything gets replaced from every brand under warranty.... You pay out of pocket otherwise. Toyota doesn't comp free transmissions outside of warranty or a massive failure on their part, like recent developments. All of these companies cut costs and features, raise prices and pass nothing off to us.
Awesome video. Thank you. I now have owned both. Surprised to see the hood of the GX moving up and down waiving caused by the wind at freeway speed. Other than that super happy with the GX, on the 1958, I couldn’t get over the engine sound and transition from hybrid to gasoline.
I talked to someone recently who just retired from TMC and worked closely with Koji Sato. Toyota is working on some real challenges right now. And it is trying to turn around an aircraft carrier in terms of the way the corporation thinks and plans their products. It may be ~4-5 years before these changes are implemented. A different company now. Yet Toyota is somewhat reluctant to change.
David, Hino's Hamura plant was the manufacturing base for the world renowned T100 pickup as well as the cult favourite FJ Cruiser. They have also built countless Prados over the years. As such I am confident they will do a satisfactory job on the new Land Cruiser. 🤩
Thanks for the exterior overview of both vehicles, nice to see how they compare. Not having the tools you have to measure gaps and thicknesses, what other things are you inspecting in a vehicle on the lot before purchasing. I'd love hearing about your procedures, what's important to look for and any tips you may have prior to purchase. Thanks!
The gold truck needs more colors to achieve that color as a base. So it comes out measuring thicker. Paint thickness would mean nothing. What you want to know is how thick the Clear coat is.
It is indeed nice that they build them in Japan (agreed) That said, the issue is if you want the more affordable (and frankly better looking model, IMHO) it is the Toyota But.... you can't get that without a hybrid. I am sure there are future costs associated with the hybrid and that is a shame. These vehicles are supposed to be used for more rugged situations and as such I would think luxury price and luxury qualities are not in alignment with proposed usage. I've been waiting decades for Toyota to allow the USA to have a Prado and this is disappointing to say the least. Note: I had an 80's 4Runner with 4 cyl and while underpowered the Toyota 4 cylinder really should not be a huge concern. That said, function and durability should be the top priority and I think they are losing their way with many of these newer models.
I wish Toyota would made a round headlight LC with the V6 and a flat cargo floor. I’d buy that in a minute. Otherwise, too many compromises across the board with all the new tnga-f vehicles.
The LC is lovely and I wish I could own one. I am not very hopeful but still waiting for news about the smaller version of the LC, if we will ever get it here in North America. But I must admit that the GX is just awesome looking. I believe this is the most attractive truck Lexus has designed to date. Unfortunately again, both are way beyond my budget here in Canada.
Given the excellent reputation of previous Toyota vehicles built at the Hino Hamura plant, I would not hesitate to buy a 2024 Land Cruiser that was built there.
hamura produced the legendary Hilux pick ups till mid 2000...last pick ups made in japan..EVERYONE knows the Hilux pedigree...they last 2.000.000 kms and then you just need to change the water pump and they are ready for other million...damn the good old days
What a load of rubbish, I have owned 3 Hilux vehicles , one engine spun a big end bearing at 100 000 km. Serviced every 5000 km. They break down just like any other brand.
David in Toyotas defect statement they say that some of the V35 engines are different and place different pressures on the main bearing. Do you think they changed design while in production? Would you have an opinion as to if this debris issue or a design change, or both. I found the July 2 24 document confusing. Do you think that the V35 engines outside of the recall are ok, or will the recall be expanded. As an engineer, your thoughts would be great to hear. I don't expect that this would be answered, and I wish Toyota would be clearer. I have a 23 LX 600 with a March 23 build date, which is outside the recall. So far, over 11k miles, the vehicle has been above excellent. I'm glad that Toyota is addressing the issue as they are, but the ambiguity of the document puzzles me. Of course, I am not an engineer, so I pose it to you. Great channel, great information.
Toyota made these vehicles more complicated for what they are. My 2022 Toyota Corolla SE 2.0 Dynamic Force Engine is none turbo and still can out perform and leave Toyota's V6 twin turbo hybrid battery 🪫 boost engine in the dust. The engines are to complicated for what they are
The roof dents have been reported by several people with that roof rack (on all the First Editions and an option on other trims) -- seems like it's a port install issue.
I'm okay with any plant as long as it's in Japan (J VIN) or Sweden (Y VIN). Unfortunate you found the dent on the roof after you took delivery. You'll only find small damage like that after detailing. Will be very expensive in labor to remove the headliner for PDR.
Unfortunately, seems like your LC 250 is less than perfect. Toyota build quality/reliability has taken a real hit this year (2024). Hopefully, they are figuring it out. Dont trade in that V8 GX 460 just yet!
I have been driving Toyotas for decades. My 2019 4 runner is the best vehicle I have owned. I love the looks of the newer generation of vehicles they are making, but I am like some on here that believe that Toyota is overthinking these days with their engines. They have had such a rock solid reputation with reliability, the main reason I have been buying Toyotas. Evolution in the industry is inevitable. But a total reversal in thinking really is risky for those of us who go to Toyota because we know what we are getting. Now I don’t.
Can you check the gaps in the enginee and transmissions? Could be more interested. Other think, compare cheap interior plastic. And at the end, this comparison of two carefully selected cars does not reflect those offered in showrooms.
All modern water-based paints have orange peel, the difference is in the wave size and consistency of the waviness. On top of that, most orange peel looks OK if there is sufficient clear coat which provides gloss and "depth." Most Japanese brands tend to have somewhat thin clear coats, which results in less visual depth in the paint and also a faster fading time when left to age in the sun. Oil-based paints went out of style in the 90s, and even back then most mainstream brands had already abandoned them.
The ones I've owned in the past (the one I own today) and the ones I've inspected at dealerships, all suffer from huge body panel misalignments, especially at the whole tailgate. Not to mention the cheap and flimsy plastics everywhere. Regarding reliability, I'd say it's better due to self-suggestion, as toyota owners do more preventive maintenance intervals (like changing the transmission ATF despite the brand saying it's not necessary).
There should be a difference, no? Regardless of where they are built they are different vehicles. David I like u but I’m not sure about this video. Should be comparing LC to LC from the different plants. I’ve had both Lexus and Toyotas. And they are different. As they should be.
Yes, the intent here is really a Toyota vs. Lexus comparison, rather than a Hamura vs. Tahara comparison. Lexus production lines employs more intensive processes and stricter training, and technicians generally don't cross with Toyota lines even in the same plant.
I have the new first edition. Love the power and comfort. Best new toyota I have bought in 20 years. The look is more sporty than the gx but both look awaesome.
Hi Mr. David, I love your videos but I feel , like the majority of your audience, that we are priced out of most of you vehicles reviews. Excellent content but irrelevant for thousands of us. Where are the reviews on Corollas?
I was at the Toyota dealership this week to check out the new land cruiser, and I was shocked how the exterior windows seal where the doors meet each other are so floppy and not even secured properly such a shame of quality from Toyota
Trick to find out where it’s made before you buy Check the Vin number if it contain “K” is from Hamura instead if its “5” then is from Tahara JTEABFAJ0RK000000-Hamura JTEABFAJ0R5000000-Tahara Hope this help
Being that these vehicles are so new and close cousins, I think this is a great comparison. I appreciate your detailed analysis.
I have owned 6 Tacomas now. People will all say I will never buy a 4cyl turbo...Toyota has been making 4 cylinder turbos for decades.. Aisin is owned by Toyota lol
Great comparison David‼️ 13:47
Awesome video. Thank you.

David I just picked up the same Landcruiser first edition, same color built at Hamura. No dings on mine.
Toyota is straying from their path and is losing their heritage to corporate greed. It will be years before I buy a new Toyota.
David, Hino's Hamura plant was the manufacturing base for the world renowned T100 pickup as well as the cult favourite FJ Cruiser. They have also built countless Prados over the years.
As such I am confident they will do a satisfactory job on the new Land Cruiser. 🤩
didnt they also build the lx-600's that the engines have been blowing up?
No, the LX600 and Land Cruiser 300 series are both built at Yoshiwara plant and the engines are built at Tahara plant.
I prefer the Lexus, with the six cylinder motor and more rear cargo space, thanks for this information.
I think most people will, I however prefer the Land Cruiser interior has a better layout with buttons and the Power generator anywhere you go
Thanks for the exterior overview of both vehicles, nice to see how they compare. I would love to see you do a build quality / fit and finish overview of the new Tacoma and Tundra.
Mexico vs Texas/California
Is the sheetmetal the same? Every toyota I've ever owned gets dented so easily. If you just look at the thing too hard it gets dented.
Sounds like yer kinda clumzy
Is there any reason why the tailgate panel gaps are always wider in general?
It is indeed nice that they build them in Japan (agreed) That said, the issue is if you want the more affordable (and frankly better looking model, IMHO) it is the Toyota But.... you can't get that without a hybrid. I am sure there are future costs associated with the hybrid and that is a shame. I much prefer the iconic look of LC. Lexus is nice and more luxurious and better warranty but the LC has the vintage look and history.
I wish Toyota would made a round headlight LC with the V6 and a flat cargo floor. I’d buy that in a minute. Otherwise, too many compromises across the board with all the new tnga-f vehicles.
Would like to see an analysis/comparison of interior build quality.
Toyota/ Lexus number 1. Amazing
Just want an updated 70 series for North America. Fix the rear track and sent them to the North West Market US and CA.
Love the LC.
I can't get past the front end of the Lexus. The oversized and bulky eyesore always reminds me of the family Truckster in the "Vacation" movie
Given the excellent reputation of previous Toyota vehicles built at the Hino Hamura plant, I would not hesitate to buy a 2024 Land Cruiser that was built there.

Is the gx a bigger vehicle?
So if mine has a number ”1” in the eleventh position of the VIN, what plant was it built?
How do I know the factory that built my landcruiser based on the code on the name tag?
Mazda is getting better these days!
Just underrated car. People don't know how good Mazda car is.
And Mazda is only 1/8 of Toyota, Own 3 Mazdas, Great cars. Great Company
More GX 550vids please
Confused : first statement : “ don’t believe LC is factory defect “. Second statement re: the GX “ think LC is a factory defect “ 👀❔
I would return the Land Cruiser. I wouldn’t want to a brand new vehicle that needs to be worked over and fixed.
What is the device name which he use to measure the paint thickness ?
R&D thickness gauge
Twin brothers, different Dad.
Also Toyota Alphard And Lexus LM 350

Toyota/Lexus quality has plummet on most of there new models
I'm still waiting for the real Land Cruiser.
LC 300 diesel!
You mean the 300 which has the V6 turbo diesel that apparently has a ton of problems?
You mean the Station Wagon
Can you check the gaps in the enginee and transmissions? Could be more interested. Other think, compare cheap interior plastic. And at the end, this comparison of two carefully selected cars does not reflect those offered in showrooms.
He’s comparing build Q based on factory. Stop being an a$$
That’s terrible David that your brand new vehicle came with dents. Personally I wouldn’t have taken it
You should have gone with v6 in every aspect better
David, good video. Question: my 2022 GX has a decent amount of orange peel on the doors. Why is that? Thanks.
All modern water-based paints have orange peel, the difference is in the wave size and consistency of the waviness. @@canto_v12 thanks
check them after 300,000 miles please
We’ve had four Hondas, and the paint/clear coat quality has been horrible.
Honda is famous for fast-fading paint. But their mechanicals are usually good.

Not true. Build Q per factory is common…car style shouldn’t be the problem.

Circular lights not attractive.
Trick to find out where it’s made before you buy

JTEABFAJ0RK000000-Hamura
JTEABFAJ0R5000000-Tahara
Hope this help
I'm staying away from all new designs for a long time
Okay Boomer. Time to go back to bed.
lexus is a lot of better
Y'all need to avoid Turbos
Just test drive cars in different territories ,the quality is not of interest that much whichever plant
My gx550 OT+ has idle issue. Took it to the dealer and they said, “it’s all normal.” Do you have any ideal what’s causing vibration during idle?
