I had the DS version growing up, and I LOVED it! They don’t tell you about the boost trick in that version, so I discovered it on my own and I felt like a GOD! It’s a shame to see so many people hating on the DS version’s soundtrack though

I remembered beating Wizpig the first time, WITHOUT understanding the boost trick from the Strategy Guide from Nintendo Power. It was one of the greatest feeling wins I had as a kid. Also you didn't mention all of the other cool stuff you could unlock like extra characters, Trophy Races, Minigames and the Space tracks and second Wizpig race.
I remember playing the DS version of this game when I was a kid and having a hard time beating the final boss. But unlike you, I didn't use the internet to find out how to beat the him. I just kept doing the challenging him until I eventually beat him.
So the thing with Wizpig. Out of complete fucking boredom, this guy conquered his own planet and molded it into a massive amusement park: Future Funland, the final area of the game, and decides it would be awesome if he did the same to Earth. Timber wasn't having that, so he called most of the other original racers to his island to stop him. Including Drumstick, who went ahead to fight Wizpig alone like a goober, lost, and got turned into a frog.
This is one of the best games I've ever played. Both the original and the remake are top-tier kart racers. The only (commercial) rival Mario Kart will ever have.
Funnily enough I had an NES and N64, but skipped the SNES in-between (I know, my loss) But yeah, I loved Diddy Kong Racing! Super fun game, and I remember my friend beating all the time trials to unlock T.T. the clock as a racer. Now I need to go binge the sound track.
Friendly advice to everyone who wants to try Diddy kong racing for the first time: Don't choose Krunch for the Adventure mode. He is considered by fans to be the worst racer in the game and easily D tier from S to D. I won't stop you from trying and if you have, more power to you. But for your first playthrough, do not use Krunch.
I hope Nintendo can “Shake hands with Rare” for a full HD remake of Donkey Kong 64 (and this game getting a good remake [Not the bad DS remake] or a sequel would be cool too)
You should play the DS remake. It adds more courses and new characters. If you beat all the courses' time trials you get the clock character Tick Tock which has max stats for racing
It's been a hot minute since I played this game. Maybe next playthrough I'll try the DS version. I recently hacked my 3DS so perfect time to emulate it

Okay ditty Kong racing lore is basicallya teenage house party. The tiger's parents went out on vacation and told the tiger don't be hosting races or wreck the island while we are gone. So the tiger does just that and challenges wizpig to a race. The tiger loses and the pig alien wizard gets control of the island. So the tiger asks for help from the cock who is supposedto be the best racer around(hidden frog cock character) who loses and is turned into a frog. Slso the tiger calls up his friends and is like hey I need your help. So the rest of the cast (bango,conker,ditty, the mouse,ect) come to help. But the Kremlins see ditty Kong racing off and sends someone after them to see what's going on but desides to help ditty and the tiger to race. Then the beat the wizpig and get control of the island before the tiger's parents return. -source the instruction booklet
