    I have one too.. and your right, it is by far the best cup of coffee you could make. I have the electric 12 cup counter top and use it daily. Started with an older West Bend metal pot years ago, but always felt like the coffee had a tin taste. Got this 60's-70's Corning pot, an the taste is amazing. No tin taste. But than you wouldn't get that from glass. This thing has been a workhorse for at least 25 years, and still going. Cleans easy with no coffee stains. Aluminum still shiny.. even the little orange light still works. Some people don't get it. They trade off GREAT coffee for quick drip makers. But the reality is drip takes about 6 minutes per pot, and brewed-perked takes 10 to 11. Drip coffee is nothing more than black hot water as the water passes over the grinds once, where brewed coffee slowly perks to a particular temperature. Great video. Thanks for sharing!

      FYI Thought I would see what others are using. I fill mine with water to the top number, using a coffee scoop, I put in 3-4 scoops of coffee & then time it, once I SMELL that good aroma, it 'perks' another 5=10 minutes. P: I do not use a filter, the coffee grounds 'do not' come out into the coffee.

    I just brought up my dad moms old Corning ware pot. I remember them using it when my aunt and uncle came over to play cards. I would be the designated waitress. What I can’t remember is how much coffee to use. I don’t want a bitter coffee but a smooth cup of coffee like they used to do.

    If your willing to wait for the best way to make coffee, the percolator is it. Better than the automatic drip, and better than the Keurig coffee maker. Automatic drip coffee makers became more popular than the percolators because they would make the coffee faster and did not need as much cleaning after each usage as the percolators did. And when they where made a good 5 years after that they became cheaper to buy than the percolator pots.

    Why the corningware electric percolator makes "perfect" coffee? Corning is science. In order to get a percolator to work one must boil coffee which is to hot. How does corning deal with this issue? Pyroceram and an electric system designed to operate just at boiling. Pyroceram maintains its temp much better then any metal pot which helps keep the brewing process below boiling while still boiling water. Let's walk through the process from perspective of water. As the water hits the boiling temp it is pushed up through a valve process. It just reaches the temp and is sent upward. When it touches the glass top the temp is reduced and then it hits the metal lid which again reduces the temp before it drips over coffee grounds at the optimal temp. After the water drips through back down it is cooled even more by the more constant temp regulated by the insulator, pyroceram, rather then the conductive metal pots which raise the temp of the water much to quickly due to contact with the heating elemant. If you notice the brewing process of an electric corning percolater you will notice when the red light turns on and brewing stops there are no extra spurts of boiling water because the pyroceram and the glass top keep water under boiling.

    Once it starts perking; How long do you let it perk for before you remove the percolator from the heat and let it set? ( I've let it perk for 8 minutes or so before I remove it from the heat... So far; So Good? Or should I go for 9 minutes?? ....Help!!)

    Probably the thumbs down are a result of the fact that this model has been recalled for the handle falling off and is dangerous to use. Please support the bottom with a pot holder when picking it up. You don't want the scalding pot smashing at your feet. Its known to happen with this model when the glue fails and the handle slides off.

    Just bought one of these and tried perking coffee in it and it doesn't taste the same as in my stainless Farberware stove top pot. I used the same amount of water (measured it in the Farberware pot and poured it into the Corningware one), ground the same amount of coffee and put that in the basket. Perked it for the same amount of time everything and it was awful. Can someone help me so that I can get great coffee out of this pot. I love it! My parents used to perk with this same pot, they loved it. I would like to love it to! i have checked on the internet and found one place that gave a step by step instructions which was almost step by step what I did. I tried it twice, second time wasn't so bad, but not like my Farberware perked coffee. Please help! Thank you!

      52cardsup Hi. Try watching my other video on using a Pyrex coffee pot - it applies to this one too. For example, If you make 6 cups (follow the lines on the inside), use 6 tablespoons of ground coffee. Don't boil the coffee and perk for 5-7 minutes max.

    • @52cardsup
      @52cardsup 7 лет назад

      producedinLA ~ Thank you! I watched your other video. We grind our beans every time we make coffee. I use a Hario hand grinder and go just above the 2 cup mark. It looks like it is 4 Tbsps and we go with water to the 6 cup line, which in the Corning ware measures at the 7 cup line. I am just going to have to work with it and see what I can come up with. What a shame, having to make coffee! Thank you for your response and help! Happy Perking! :-)
