You know, this doesn't look too bad by the standards of something in an Alpha state. Why do people release things in this condition when if they actually finished it people may actually enjoy it?

Well, yeah. It's more of a question of why people choose to release garbage given the opportunity rather than make it playable. It can't be cost effective because nobody aside from a few people who watch videos like this will buy it.
i think most creators don´t see the flaws they make in a game trough bias to their own product.
In a perfect world, a game like this would be bare bones with some content that's well polished and undeniably fun but short, and sales would fund more small pieces of polished content until interest wains and it becomes a standalone. But in our world Devs get ambitious and set unrelistic goals, money becomes a problem and without a publisher or producer backing the project they release half finished products hoping their dream game could still survive, those devs get to see something they had genuine hope in get it's shit kicked out. But all sorts of things could be the cause, man power is another issue if there team is unskilled, so much can go wrong in making games, and I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they weren't just looking to make money, a passionless project can go worse than an unfunded one, but usually I look at these and just feel sad for the one guy who worked on it and dared to hope this would be the new cool sci-fi MMO he always wanted as a kid.

you're totally right, I bet this is one dude who liked mass effect, convinced a pair of friends from college and without any planning started this game... maybe at the end they(if there's a team) realized that the amount of work needed was beyond their available time and skills, just doing one city block and a bunch of weird ships from their school notebooks

You can really tell the developer put A LOT of effort into this. A lot of effort that was put towards making minimal effort rip offs of other games, and then combining them into one SUPER game. 10/10 literally the most playable and immersive experience on the market.

Just bought this game. Played on the Vive and i was simply blown away. VR glitch fest. At the core it's actually a fun game, just garbage. Please play this in VR.
