    Thank you for your honest review. It's sad to see that companies think it's okay to take advantage of people struggling with mental illness by charging them hundreds of dollars a month for services. Most people with this illness are not employed and almost certainly would not be able to afford this, even with the assistance that you say they provide to people who are low income. I work full time and there's no way I could afford it. But I guess it's good to know that this option is out there.

    Hi Lauren,
    I’m wondering if you could do a video on the differences between schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. You use the two interchangeably but there are notable differences so I’m curious if you could talk about some of the differences and your specific diagnosis.

      It's taken me along time to accept that I'm schizophrenic. I use to get these really grandiose and expansive ideas that would lift my spirits, so much that I would exalt in the euphoria of it. I thought this was mania. I've found that it stems from early childhood trauma and like a intravenous drug user I loved the effect it generated. It has taken a number of years to identify. I think it has its roots in depersonalization disorder. It was confusing times and the more I tried to substantiate that the more pronounced my psychosis became. I was trying to make a abstract idea into something that was tangible. I was trying to give body to a phenomenon . I was the mouse in my very own experiment. I've come to learn that sugar, caffeine and nicotine exacerbate these anomalies in my thought processes and that is where I start to reference back to those grandiose and expansive conspiracy theories I formulated in the acute phase.
      I've found relief by keeping it as simple as that and leaving the technical details to the professionals. I developed a little trust in their assessments even though I don't have a real strong connection with them. It's maddening trying to analyse symptoms.
      That's basically how I've recovered. If I decompensation I believe enough in myself to asked to be reassessed. A little of my experience over the last 13years. Peace

    I'm really happy that you made this review ♥ I personally use Better Help, and I think that it's a really good fit for me - at least in times of crisis. When I function better, I need therapy much less frequently - but when things are rough, my Borderline Personality Disorder kicks up and I really need a therapist I can count on at any time when that happens, and that's when that platform comes in REALLY handy. For me, it was really worth it - and if any of you can afford it, I definitely recommend it!

    I work for BetterHelp it’s cheaper than what you pay 💰 for an office. I also work in a group practice. However, it might not be a good fit for those who need in person sessions and a higher level of care.

    • @louisedery1049
      @louisedery1049 3 года назад

      Not sure what type of "higher level of care" you can get in an office? I think (since I am a therapist and have done both) I provide a higher level of care at Better Help. Why? Because in an office setting I can only communicate with my clients when they come in for their appointment or if they leave me a message at my office and I can call them back when I have time. At Better Help, I have access to my client 24/7. I am being compensated to do that and it is refreshing for a company to recognize that I should get paid for all my contact and it is at my deaccession based on my client's needs. I can do the same things for my clients/patients on Better Help and more than I could ever do in an office setting. I can call 911, get them to a hospital, contact their emergency contact if needed. I can have them check in once, twice or more a day if I am concerned for them. If they go to the hospital I am on their phone if I need to be. The level of care at Better Help is whatever the therapist believes is in the best interest of the client. Its a great way to provide treatment for the client/patient.

    Normally I wouldn't really like this set up, but in COVID times it is often the only way to get therapy. My in person therapist has had to shift over to video visits. Insurance coverage in the US, as always, will be a problem. The shorter more frequent contacts might be nice, as well as having multiple ways to reach out to them.

    I'm curious whether they contacted you first and there was an arrangement for you to promote their service before you used it. I'm not doubting your experience on the platform. However, what you described (changing therapists repeatedly) takes weeks at least, and that costs money many people can't afford to waste. A service of this type should be good from the beginning.

    This sounds more like just having someone to have a conversation with. Do therapists on Better Help actually help your mental issues? Do they actually do certain things to help? Or just listen to your problems with basic responses?

    • @louisedery1049
      @louisedery1049 3 года назад

      They are licensed therapists, so what do you think? The point of them being there is to help. When she said "canned responses" I find that odd. Where would they get these "canned responses" to regurgitate at the client? Maybe it appeasers that way to her because she is looking for some other response?

      A lot of people with insurance have extremely high copays for mental health services and end up paying for there sessions and usually they are limited to 8 sometimes less. The problem in the USA is the insurance companies make it difficult to use insurance for mental health and don't cover much of the costs :(

    It's at best a gamble. The therapist might be invested in your well-being, if you're lucky; the company is not. First of all, they exploit therapists as well. Check their feedback on Glassdoor and Indeed.com. That is no accident; it's their business model. There are people who were matched with good therapists, and then there are the rest, who only got canned responses and cancelled video sessions. This company poses as affordable and thus targets people who can't afford traditional therapy. And half the time they are ripped off.

    My new sister in law has your condition. I never really thought about until Vice showed the life of one of their employees. Love of his life he is saying. The last sister in law treated me and my mother like crap, she was negligent, abusive at times to the kids, but supposedly mental problems free. I will take the schizophrenia over 16 years+ of emotional abuse. Seems like a darling to me. I am dealing with what may be bipolar, but I am not sure. I have had trouble keeping a job for 15 years, and i tend to hibernate. I didnt think much of it until I watched Spiraling Out and the Queens Gambit, that it may be something else. I don't typically lash out, I hibernate and cry myself to sleep. So, I am going to see how this is, how Better Help is.
