Marantz makes some great amps!
I've been using the "little brother" PM5005 amp & matching CD5005 CD player from Marantz for several years now. I couldn't be happier with the sound.
The 6007 is a great amp! I have been pleasantly entertained with this amps performance. I have gone through a few Denons, ChiFi Class D, Rotel, Pre amps and Power Amps and even previous Marantz to this model and again the 6007 has a great sound. For me it’s a very easy amp to settle on. I also, as many others have found, think it has a nicely balanced sound so I don’t find myself getting sick of any particular frequency ahead of any other. I find it a very ‘set and forget’ amp which just makes living a little more easy in getting on with the day. Looks very classy in silver and again does not let me down as soon as it opens its mouth, if you get my drift. Currently the 6007 can be had for £299 December 2023 here in the UK and that really is a bargain!
I love the way you review the peoducts. It feels continuous, engaging, and, of course, honest reviews .
Thanks, and God bless you
Wow, this is one of the best sounds I have ever heard on a youtube, test, and review channel! I also like your setup!
If so, stick for yoyr audio with you computer!
I have this amp & the matching cd player. I have no regrets. I also have the long covid too, not nice 3 months on.hope you get better soon. Music gets me through the days.
Amazing review
I have 6005 since 2015 and enjoying the music
The audible differences between 6005, 6006 and 6007 are minimal.
Also had a receiver from yamaha, when I used marantz amp for the first time, my loudspeakers played for the first time. People don't want to admit that entry level receivers are really only for surround sound.
Own the PM6006 and matching CD player. Couldn't be happier with both units and only one remote needed!
Same here, very pleased as bass is perfect without subwoofer
I really enjoyed your review. The topic of of AVR vs stereo integrated amp has is hotter than ever. Of course a dedicated 2 channel sounds better! The amplifier section is dedicated to just the two channels. Then, your Marantz has a bigger transformer and it is a toroidal transformer vs. the lower quality iron core transformer, bigger power capacitors, bigger heat sink, better everything. Many get scared away from the lower power ratings Vs the false 120 x 7 channels ratings of the surround receivers. I’m glad you did the sound comparison and agree with the rest of us audio nerds. Not all watts are the same. I went from a 120 watts Denon home theater receiver to a Marantz PM7000N and the difference is night sub day. Good job buddy!!!’
I’m a Wharfedale guy too! I have a pair of the Diamond 11.2 with the Marantz PM7000N and a pair of the D320 with a Emotiva BASX-TA100 little integrated amp with an 8” Definitive Technology subwoofer. Both are great systems. Another great reason for going with your Marantz is that it is 4 ohm stable where your former Yamaha is not. Your speakers are rated at 8 ohms but repeatedly stop below 4. They will damage the Yamaha eventually, especially if you drive them loudly.
It is a good amp with warm and rich tone. Lacks a little bit resolution grip abd texture but in this price range it has no serious competitor
What amp close to this price range has that resolution grip and more texture?

Lol trying to sound like a proffessional. It just sounds great & Musical if you can hear the highs & lows & in betweens with half decent music then it's good. I personally found when I first played this system it made my ears prick up & the wife for the first time ever commented on the sound quality. I think it's time to stop some of the music bull**** & snobbery. Start enjoying your system & albums & stop looking for faults.remember you bought the blooming thing so you must have read up on it. Rant over.
now cost $300 more than his original price
@@ENGLISHISBEST absolutely right ! This is a very good amplifier even without the price consideration. People like to dislike because it's not a very expensive product. Expensive products they will never be able to afford.
Ive watched a few of your vidz and really enjoyed your input. No punt intended 😂. Anyway ive ordered that amp and a marantz tuner too. Keep up with the vidz m8. 👍
Good review. I bought the Marantz PM6007 a month ago here in Bangalore, India. It sounds superb!
What speakers have you paired it up with? I'm going for a KEF Q150, but I'm not sure how well this amp complements the speakers.
@@HaridevV I have paired it with Tannoy Eclipse 3 floor standing speakers. I also have Fyne Audio F-302 floor standers. It works well with both. KEF Q series will make good pair too.
My B&W 602 S3 are working Magnificently with 6007
@@VinodKumar-gx7wjLooking for the same in Bangalore. Pointers to shops from where I can buy the Marantz?
Current feedback design and you can hear this - run same gears but bigger as well, home made. Would buy it immediately no hesitation for THAT price! Grab one!
Great review. This is one high on my list to replace an old Denon PMA 350SE that I've had for ages. I'm certainly looking for something with good deep bass as the Denon is a bit lacking in that department - possibly due to age methinks (although it is supposed to be putting-out 60-70 WPC). I'll be running it through Mordant Short MS35ti's which I'm hoping will come to life far more with the Marantz. Watch this space!
Maybe the Denon PME 600 is better for you if you are looking for better base. What did you decide? 😊
I really like your reviews! Very frank and to the point.
In it's class it's hard to beat. Great value for money. I had 6005(45W) model which I replaced with Roksan Attessa amp (80W) which costs more than twice. While Roksan's analog amp section is better, it does not justify the price jump. The internal dac and the headphone amp are nowhere near what Marantz offers and the overall quality is also better. This Marantz is really a great entry level hi fi amp.
Wattage in amps mean nothing if you didn't know it yet. Sound quality isn't measured in watts
@@juanbaclavab It does matter, if you didn't know it yet. Plenty of articles online how the wattage impacts sound quality. It's like driving the same car that's powered by 1-liter vs 3-liter engine. Try it and you'll understand.
So youve tested the 3060s subwoofer and the superman movie through this amp eh? Which input did you use for your player? Was it co axial? Or optical? Did you have your player set to pcm? Thank you for your time.
It was a while ago but I probably did have it connected via coax and the Blu-ray player set to PCM or Auto?
I've just had it mate. It hangs around for about 3 weeks. Cheers for the review 👍
Is this amp enough for a room size of 4x6m? Thanks.
Bit of an odd question I know, but you might be able to help me. When you change the volume with the remote control, does the physical knob on the unit rotate? Thanks!
No it stays where it is. When you turn it off, it resets.
Thanks. Just bought one. I had the 6006uk and then swapped it for a roksan kandy. Love the kandy but missed the Marantz. Love the fact the 6007 has much more diifinitive treble.
I’m limited for space. Can you place a CD player on top of the PM6007,or is that a no go,and separates should always be placed side by side.
You can place it the other way around, the amp on top of the cd player. Make sure the amp has some space above it.
Bought this amp to connect my Akai GX 630 with. Was pleasantly supprised with the sound although for me it feels like the sound is livelier when the amp is at normal volume or abit above ( am not an audiophile do not know how to describe it better).
Also bought the CD 6007 was suprised that the remote that came with it was exactly the same as the remote of the amp.
Athough no audiophile am glad I bought them. As for me the sound is much better then my old Kenwood stereo.
Ditto. Same system. Very enjoyable. No audiophile bull is what I like.
My old Denon amp has packed in this week (the dreaded red light syndrome). Going to invest in this Marantz. Thanks for the great video, and review. Could you recommend a sub woofer to use with this amp?
Depends on your budget and the size of your room. The wharfedale diamond sw150 is a decent budget option.
Marantz has a great sound. Easy. Great with many types of music. I think Marantz, Denon, Yamaha, and even Onkyo make some decent amps. There is no need to pay 2000 to 3000 for an amp. You can pay about 600 and have a great sounding amp. I paid 349 for an Onkyo. It sounds better than the Black Ice Audio F22. I used to sell Black Ice.
I agree, I have owned some very high end amps, the Marantz is fantastic!
Thanks for the review of this amplifier. Have you considered that you problem with the bass and dancing sub may be related to having large floorstanding speakers connected to a powerful amplifier in a small cornered space? Marantz is well known for enhanced bass, add more power than you previously had with your receiver, place all that in a small area, the result is not surprising.
I can understand those things affecting the acoustics but I think the sub would've still danced around with bookshelf speakers and a larger room. By today's standards, the amp isn't particularly powerful at 45w per channel at 8 ohms.
I love my Marantz 8006 amp combined with the 7300 cd player
With Wharefdales 11.3 speakers
I believe that the Marantz PM6007 is the reference budget amplifier.
Hello there. I have a dump question but I would like to hear that from you. I have Denon X4000 AVR and description says that it has 200w per chanel. This Marantz pm6007 has only 80w. My question is, is it enough? I'm assuming that is weaker then my avr
For 2 channel stereo, it plays pretty loud,
If you don't mind, i've got a question.
So, i already have speakers and a receiver. And i'm also thinking about buying a stereo amplifier. But i would like to keep my receiver as a sort of central hub, to connect my game consoles, PC, etc. I know i need to run RCA cables from the pre-outs on my receiver to my (yet to buy) stereo amplifier. But what ports should i put those cable in, on the amplifier? Perhaps the ones under "Tuner", in the "Audio In" section?
Nice review thanks. Really considering purchasing one this weekend.
I don't want to sound too daft but can i play audio with my PC with this amp and i can use four speakers at once?
You can connect 4 speakers but they need to be over 8ohms. You also connect your PC using two methods. 1. From the headphone socket of your pc using a 3.5mm to RCA splitter amzn.to/3SZUxuw or 2. Via an external DAC. An external DAC is the preferred way for best sound. ruclips.net/video/8pNgh7OkAVM/видео.html
@@UTILITARIANTVUK Thank you very much. I was using the first method for my old Technics amp. I will have a look into the second method.
Cheers, i just wanted to be sure. Today is the day i buy this amp. =)
@@UTILITARIANTVUK Great thanks again, i received my amp today. Are there any speakers that you could recommend that are not too expensive?
Looks like my other two smaller speakers didn't work. I would like the 3rd and 4th speakers to be used for surround sound like my old setup.
@@Just-l8l What speakers are you currently using? I'm curious why they didn't work?
@@UTILITARIANTVUK My main ones are from my old Technics SC-CH900 and the others a just some not so great JVC speakers from an old broken stereo.
I have figured it out now though cheers. I just need to buy four more banana plugs.
One last thing is do the speakers need to be at least or over 8 ohms?
You have been a great help. Many thanks. =]
Just purchased this amp, may I ask when you plugged in your headphones, was the sound still coming through your speakers? I was listening to music with the headphines on, only to realise that the music was also coming through the speakers...
Yes, you have to turn off speaker a or b, whichever one you're using.
@@UTILITARIANTVUK Thanks! I'll try that later, been upgrading my music system, & still getting familiar with it, QED Silver Anniversaryxt cables hooked up between a pair of Wharfedale 12.1 Diamond speakers & a Marantz PM6007 amp...been blown away by the sound quality...my old vinyl never sounded so good! Thinkinh of adding the Marantz CD6007 cd player...looking at reviews....thanks again for your reply, much appreciated! Will check out your channel & subscribe 👍
@@moodlefyful The CD6007 is also on my radar. I'll probably get it in the next few months.
Just bought this amp after watching your super review 👍 one question can you add a separate power amp to the PM6006 ? Apologies in advance if a stupid question 🥴
Yes you can!
Hi, great review. What do You think, will this amp be good pair with Monitor Audio silver 2 speakers?
If I'm correct, these are 8ohm at 120 watt so this amp should run them fine.
I just want to know, how was the treble performance in this amp 🙏
It's as good as any I've tested.
I'm looking for a budget setup to replace my 20yr old current setup.
I've looked at 2nd hand bose companion, a couple of the logitech systems etc etc.
What would you recommend?
I see you're a fellow South Walian 😉
If you can find one at a decent price, I'd go for the Edifier s350db over the Bose companion.
Review here ruclips.net/video/fFuJ1P83vAE/видео.html
I have looked at those but the speakers are too big for my space.
Are you from Caerphilly by any chance?
I also just coincidentally got this amp and the Dali Oberon 5 before finding your channel and absolutely loving it so far and they're not even broken in yet. Anyway, what is your opinion on source direct mode? I leave my tone adjustments in the neutral position so would it be more beneficial to me to engage this? Many thanks, I have enjoyed watching your content.
I've tried it with source direct but like you, I tend to keep the tone controls on neutral and source direct off. Not all music is recorded the same, so if a track needs a bit more (or less) bass, I can use my tone controls.
Everything is in balance.
But for this amount of money one to consider to buy.
I have one.
In India also, this model is available at very affordable price.
just found your channel, very entertaining and informative! I have the oberon 5's and am weighing up different amp upgrade options. Do you find the marantz drives the speakers effortlessly or do you ever find it to be lacking? I also watched the speakers review video as well where the marantz didn't do a great job with the wharfdales you liked?
I find it drives them very well. I've had no issues. What amp are you currently using?
@@UTILITARIANTVUK its a Pioneer sx-po1dab which I had from Richer Sounds back in 2013, it's a small unit that came with a matching CD player. Supposed to be 75w into 4 ohms but just feel it's lacking
@@simoncaton7345 I suppose the only way to tell is actually listening to it with your Dali's. Richer Sounds helped me out by setting up the amp with the Dali's in their listening room.
Hi! I bought an amp. Yamaha as501. At this time the amp plays with a couple of old speakers, mission m75. Before I bought the Yamaha I had an old amp, marantz dc750. The problem is that I do not like the sound with the new amp. I have also bought a couple of new speakers, Wharderfale diamond 12.4 which I am waiting for them from day to day. The reason I am writing to you is because I saw in your video the speakers and I remember in an other video where you compared the two amps, Yamaha and marantz, that you said that the sound was similar. You think that the result with the new speakers will be good? In other case I may will sell the Yamaha.
It's possible that the 12.4 will be a better match with the 501 but there's no way of telling until you connect the speakers up. It's also worth mentioning that amps do not sound their best when new. Some require between 50 to 100 hours burn in. Some say this is a myth but I've found that most amps sound better with more use.
Thank you very much for your time. It is sure that I will wait for sometime and then I will decide.
What is wrong with stacking your turntable on top of the amplifier?
You shouldn't stack anything on top of an amp that's too close. It can restrict airflow and may cause it to overheat. Ideally you should have around 10 to 12cm (5 to 6 inches) gap above an amp.
did you turn on,use the filter because this amp isn't a bass heavy amp
The filter is for digital music, Filter 1 is a slow roll-off and Filter 2 is a sharp roll-off, To be fair, I couldn't hear much difference between the two?
What is the small metal plate for on the top of the unit?
Great review, just a question the sub output can you adjust the crossover frequency?
Not on the amp.
Really great videos, mate, and I just ordered this beast to try it but after looking around, Yamaha A-S501 is rn cheaper and A-S701 is same price.
Do you have any experience of comparing Yammy with PM6007? I can't find any good comparison between them, which would be best bang for the buck.
I mainly listen to hard rock and metal, and goal is to make it sound as good as possible but don't have a clue which one would suit me the best. As always, thanks in advance :)
A s701 is a good amp although I've not heard it. I did have a Yamaha receiver which held its own against the Marantz. Marantz was warmer, richer. Yamaha was brighter so it may be better for rock/metal.
@@UTILITARIANTVUK Thanks, it feels hopeless when it's not possible to try anywhere before buy.
Well, as afraid as I am of my decision, I belive that any of these should and will be an upgrade to my old Onkyo TX-NR616 AV.
As you said, bright sound could really do the difference in this case, but at the same time but I have to strongly belive that the PM6007 is going to sound awesome too, so holding my thumbs as I was having my eye on it for a while now...I guess I have to try and listen to both in the end.
Did you keep your PM6007 or have you found something more worthy? Cheers!
@@dariomonefeldt1464 I've kept it. I have it paired with some Dali Oberon 5s. I love the sound.
@@UTILITARIANTVUK That sounds fantastic! Enjoy :)
hi im going to buy a 2nd turtable to play my very old 45s as my main turtable is just for new vinyl im looking at the at lp60 so can you tell me how to connect to amp as i use phono for main tt regars gary
The LP60 has it's own built in phono stage. Set the LP60 to line, then plug it into any spare RCA input on your amp. I believe it comes with the 3.5mm to RCA cable.
Hallo! Would it be good to use it with Focal Chorus 706?
They have a sensitivity of 90db, rated at 8ohms nominal. So they should be relatively easy to drive with the Marantz.
@@UTILITARIANTVUK Thanks a lot for your time, I do appreciate it 👌
Hi, great review, wonder if you can help me, my amp ( same as yours) doesn’t get the optical signal from the CD player ( marantz cd6005) any ideas?
Coaxial tends to be a little better IMO. Possible that it's a faulty lead. There are 2 optical sources, check it's on the right one. Are your a or b speaker switched on. Other than that, it could be a fault on the cd player or even the amp. Have you got another cd player or dvd player to check?
Got one today love it needs a few weeks to burn in
MINX bass walking never seen that kind of behavior before just fabulous! Love it😂 Why not to try turn the volume down on the subwoofer instead?😏..wondering how did you cross over low pass filter on your CA becouse seeing floorstanding speakers and dancing MINXy between makes me having goosebumps if there is any room for anything else but just the bass 🤪😜... In my room for example 6 inch bookshelf monitors paired with 8 inch active subwoofer experimentally achieved requiments by sticking with 40 Hz on low pass filter knob and phasing 90 degree on the sub with minimum volume up to be nicely blended together (15 square m room + amp without tone controls)
Don't know how effectively low can your Diamonds go down in your room but first I would try to look at the sub just as an extention only mainly focusin on the room settings and leaving the Amp alone for now... Needs to socialise first I guess😜. Nice setup by the way and happy enyoing the music 😉😉
I made some adjustments to the crossover and volume which has resolved the issue. Was quite a shock to see the sub do that though! 🤣
PM6007 or Rega IO?
is it worth to pair with klipsch R-26F (used to be ~650 eur for 2 speakers) ?
May not have enough power to drive them properly. Need an amp with 80 to 100 watts per channel, something like the Audiolab 6000A.
Nice setup! 👌🏻
what will happen, if you connect 2 pair of 4 ohm speakers and activate A+B, (only on low volume)?
On low volume, probably nothing. And if you did push the volume up too much, the amps protection circuits would likely shut it down. But personally, I wouldn't recommend it.
@@UTILITARIANTVUK well, the Grundig "Fine Arts"-amp worked well like this for over 30 years until it broke. (also 8 Ohms min for two pairs) so the good quality of the marantz will handle it too... It's only for older people, who want to listen to the radio in two rooms....
I have a question would you recommend to get a phono preamp for your record player and then hook it up to this or do you not need one
It has a pretty decent built in phono stage, so there's really no need for a separate one.

Waiting for the comparison to the new Rotel A11 and A10 Mk2 series. Similar features, power and price.
It will be a subjective choice. I owned the A11 and have the 6007. The A11 is a very nicely built amp, the sound is also well balanced like the 6007. The 6007 has the edge in actual width of sound soundstage. It fills the room, it’s clear and just a very nicely judged sound. The A11 is well detailed but remains a more centrally focused amp meaning most of the sound remains between the speakers which is something I noticed immediately after replacing a Denon PMA600ne with it. The Rotel is not a room filler either like the 6007. The Rotel stays quite close to the speakers from memory which was not my cup of tea but what is there is very, very nice. The 6007 pushes into your room and with a good spacious sound. It also drives my speakers better than the A11 did. I found the A11 Tribute lacked power. It’s more powerful in paper but in real life it is a very quiet amp even at 50wpc. It goes to 96 volume and playing in a 5m x 5m room I found decent listening levels at 65-70 volume which is fine but then Rotel do not recommend running the A11 at that volume for long periods and it still really wasn’t particularly loud. The 6007 provides a lot more power and on paper is 5 watts less per channel than the Rotel. I would have kept the Rotel if the power was there like the Marantz is but it was not so it had to go. It was driving a pair of Monitor Audio Bronze 200 which have a 88db sensitivity. Maybe if you have a speaker with a higher db sensitivity you would be ok, something around 90-92db. IMO the Marantz is the better value, the internal dac is decent, far better than the Iotavx SA3. Bluetooth is not included 6007 but for me personally, I am glad it isn’t.
@@Panslapper Excellent feedback. Thank you. Yes. My intent was originally to pair the new Rotel A11/A10 Mk2 with the Elac Unifi Ref Bookshelves, but I heard this speaker needs more drive than is on paper as you say. I am now pivoting to the new Zu Dirty Weekend DWX bookshelves which have 100 dB sensitivity. Now in theory the Rotels can drive them, but your feedback on soundstage depth and width is certainly eye opening. With the increased sensitivity, I can probably get away with a low power Class A or Tube amp. The design of the newer Marantz amps is more attractive to me than the old ones, but they are too big for my cabinet! Considering a Schiit Aegir now or one of the Do It Yourself kits from Pass Labs. I have an external Bifrost 2 DAC, so I can try to keep my amp more purist in this case. Thanks so much and Cheers :)
Hey. I just got this amplifier. I noticed it warms quite a bit after just a few minutes of use. Is this normal?
It does warm up a little but it shouldn't be that hot. Just make sure there's plenty of space above it for ventilation.
Well done. Thanks.
have Marantz PM6006 same sound? I donnt need sub bas out...
I find that the sub spoils the music.
I can't see why music has subs if you have decent speakers. Keep subs for your theatre systems & explosions.
The audible differences between 6005, 6006 and 6007 are minimal.
Is that true that this amp has a V shape equalization on pure direct?
I would say more U shaped. I don't find the mids recessed.
Hi sir,
I purchased Marantz PM 6007 and Q Acoustics concept 20 bookshelf speakers on 12 Oct 2024 .Unfortunately, my experience is not good at all with this amp whenever I listened to music in this setup. I don't know why my ears are paining.
I suggest that every amp maker should have customer experience centers and return policies like us.i.e 60-day return.
I found that build quality is superb of this amp, but sound is not very crisp and clear.
I also suggest not buy this amp in 2024.
i dont know antthing about amplifiers is this class A AB or D?
I think it's a class A/B but Marantz do not give out this information on their specs. I've asked them directly so hopefully they'll reply with a conclusive answer soon.
6005, 6006 and 6007 ARE CLASS A/B.
Class D amps have a lot more watts, that's the main reason they're made class D: power efficiency.
Why would you put a receiver on top of your plastic turntable cover, even to display purposes?
Also makes it difficult to play records. 😄
Great amp ,also bought the cd player as well ,punchs well above its weight ,you would have to pay more to get a better sound .
You must not own any vintage gear???
@@71Fenderv22 I got more stuff than you could even think of mate.
How is possible that the coax wasn't quite as good as the optical one?
I mean: it's a digital transport (not analog) and Bits are Bits...
Thank you for your reply in advance.
Ps. I'm asking coz I have the pm6007 as well and can't hear any difference connected to my CD player and the B&W 606 s2 anniversary ed (plus a Yamaha sub).
I actually got it the wrong way around sorry. The coax was slightly better to me. This may be due to its higher band width, it can support higher quality audio up to 24-bit/192kHz. Optical is usually restricted to 96kHz. You could argue that as the CD is 16 bit/44kHz, it doesn't matter. So I suppose it's subjective.
@@UTILITARIANTVUK thx for your reply.
Oh,ok! Got it. You were referring to its upsampling capabilities. Now it's clear. Thx again. 👍
This one is blutooth connection?
No Bluetooth on this amp
Just add a Bluetooth connection. I Paid about £30 for a hi res one on ebay for playing from my phone.get the marantz cd6007 it also plays hi res music files from its usb port. Then add a 4 input usb hub to that & I have around 600 flac albums on tap to my marantz system.
Do these have Bluetooth ?
No Bluetooth on this amp.

Lack of bass, great DAC, nice look, good quality, very clear sound maybe too clear, could be too bright sounding for someone, ask for demo before buying my advice
Lack of deep bass

It is 2022, a flagship amplifier with only 45 watts into a 8 ohm load, sporting specs that were acheived by other manufacturers more than 30 years ago. So basically this is a shit amp marketed to dumba$$ "audiophiles" willing to buy it because of the name.
Dumbass I may be but how dare you call me an audiophile! Also, it's not really a flagship, it's more of a decent canoe. Their flag ship cost 8k more!
