A lesson in which I (attempt to) teach you how to play the solo to "Circus For A Psycho" by Skillet, off of their new album "RISE".
I learned this completely by ear, so I can't guarantee it's 100% correct.
WARNING: This is my first tutorial, so I may be very confusing (most likely), or I may actually be helpful (Fingers crossed!).
Tuning: Double Drop D (Low to high: D-A-D-G-B-D)
_________________________________________________________________
GEAR USED
Guitar: Schecter Omen-6
Pedals: BOSS OS-2
Amp: Fender Frontman 25r
_________________________________________________________________
CORRECTIONS: I did make a mistake at the end (4:30) when I say "12-13-10", it should be "13-12-10". Sorry about that.
At 3:38 try to stop at the 12th fret.
Twitter: / kyle1092 just in case you wanted to, like, follow me, or something, I don't know.
Glad I could be of help. I'll go check out your cover right now. :)
Thanks for the feedback! If I ever make a lesson again I'll try to go a little slower. :)
Dude love this! Thank you so much ! I ll keep practising it!
Glad I could help!
As far as Double Drop D being useful, I think overall it makes this song easier (and Seth confirmed that this is what they recorded it in). :)
thanks for the help :) now i got it and just gotta memorise it
Glad I could help!
Thanks for pointing that out. I went back and listened to the song, and you're right, you do stop at the 12th fret. It makes sense too now that I think about it, as that would make a full octave slide. I'll add your correction to the description, as well as an annotation in the video. :)
I checked out your cover and I must say, it was pretty impressive. :)
Still can't play it very well but this video helped I can't find any other videos on this solo so thanks for the upload
Glad I could help!
Sure, no problem. :)
Guitar: Schecter Omen-6
Amp: Fender Frontman 25R (Settings, Gain: 10 Treble: 10 Middle: 4 Bass: 4 Reverb: 3)
I didn't use any pedals in this video, but I do own a Dunlop Crybaby Wah, a Boss OS-2 Overdrive/Distortion, a Boss DD-7 Digital Delay, and an MXR Phase 90
Yeah, I have no idea how the last bar is actually played, haha! And thanks for mentioning me in the description. I'll see if I can find your tab later and link it in the description of this video. :)
Sweet man! You even have the same guitar as me, identical strap and everything.
Thanks! As far as tips go, practice slowly (to a metronome if possible), and work on consistent alternate picking, as most of the notes in this solo are picked. Good luck!
Nice video, you rock! I got it, but I can't do this that fast! Any tips?
i prefer to keep the door shut, when there is selling agent behind it :P
anyways, wanted to tell i actually ended up tabbing this song. uploaded it to UG. the last bar of the solo is the challenge that i failed as well, hehe. but i was close! mentioned you in description, so folks may find you on youtube.
that was awesome! haha a little bit confusing but, I'l try it, thanks!
this is amazing! would you mind telling me what kind of equipment you have: guitar, amp, pedals?
It's not just malware though, I just hate computers. They stress me out, and can be a headache to maintain. The one I have now isn't even a year old, but within three months of getting it I started getting random errors (like the Display Driver failing) which would just stress me out even more. The only thing I use my pc for now, is uploading videos to RUclips, anything else (such as leaving comments) I do on my phone.
I'm not a shredder, so this is a bit too quick for me. Any chance of posting a tab anywhere?
Thanks for the lesson.
Thanks! I was worried that I wouldn't be clear enough, so I'm glad I was wrong. Haha
I made a mistake at 4:30. Should be 13-12-10, not 12-13-10. Sorry about that.
Thanks! I hope it helps. :)
i keep all of my tabs in a very special folder called "guitar tabs" hehe
2 or 3 of them are on UG as well
the malware stuff, this way you may be afraid of using google, since it may provide malware links :P using adblock for my firefox and never had a virus for the last 2 years.
Actually I can use/read/write tabs, in fact I have written out a few, I just choose not to use/write tabs anymore for a number of reasons.
1. I have had trouble with malware on various tab sites, even so called "trusted" sites like Ultimate-Guitar.
2. I once tabbed out the entirety of "The Elevator" by I Am Empire. After spending all day working on it, the whole tab got erased, therefore wasting hours of my life.
There are more reasons, but I'm running out of space, haha
Can you plz make a tutorial for whispers in the dark?
+Victoria Platzman I've already made one for the solo, and there are some great lessons for the rest of the song on RUclips already. If I do make one I wouldn't make it anytime soon
I will say, if anyone else wants to tab this out based on this video, they're free to do so. But I would appreciate if you could put a link to this video (either in the tab itself, or in the comments), or at least give me credit. :)
Thank you!
Probably not, because. 1. I suck at tabbing, and 2. I try to stay away from tab sites due to having trouble with malware in the past (even from "trusted" sites like ultimate guitar). Sorry. :(
thts pretty beast
Thanks.
Really? That's awesome! haha
Very awesome..
No problem. :)
Alright, the link to the tab is in the description. :)
I actually try not to use Google, or any search engine if it can be avoided. So I guess you could say that I'm "afraid" of using Google, haha.
Also, adblock is technically illegal, websites gain revenue through ads, and if you use adblock you're practicaly stealing from them. I'm not judging, I'm just saying, haha.
Haha! watch with captions, it's hilarious.
i wonder why every single youtube guitarist i've seen can't use/can't read/can't write tabs? that is some conspiracy for sure.
anyways, is double drop D actually useful?
ruclips.net/video/xq29b4cjUXo/видео.html - My take on this song. All keyboards.
Wish I had found this video of yours before I tackled the "guitar" solo. It would've been easier to hear the distinct notes without the rest of the band on the Skillet track. But since I don't play guitar, I wouldn't have gotten any benefit from the actual tutorial LOL.
Hah, thank you. :)
you rushed a bit at the last part, but still good lesson!
Probably not, sorry. :(
