  • Commenting on last Sunday's video, one person referred to "seven words that satan hates and fears" in relation to the Sacrament of Confession. I felt it was a prompting from the Holy Spirit.
My 80 pages booklet "Confession - a journey into healing, self-discovery and God's love" costs just 1.50 PLUS postage from The Curate's Diary office. See www.jesuspowerministries.org. Re God's Cottage see www.glendaloughprayercentre.org

@@marymccloskey1201 Father Altman I have heard and concluded that we were not on the same wave length. I have heard Frank Pavone in the past on EWTN. He was good. My favorites EWTN were Benedict Groshelle and Leo Clifford. I believe they were both Franciscans but they are gone now. Mike Schmitz and Bishop Baron in the US are levelheaded. Among the orthodox I enjoy Kalistos Ware, Seraphim Aldea & Seraphim Cordoza. The Anglicans have the current Dean of Canterbury Cathedral who’s impressive. The loss I felt to the bone was Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks who passed last autumn. I’m Roman but I have a diverse background & am blessed by learning from various fine teachers. I neglected to mention Bible Illustrated which is Orthodox & highly recommended. Breaking the Habit is good too but geared more toward the young.

@@marymccloskey1201 If you’re referring to your father Altman I can’t recall exactly but when I have a few minutes I will try to check his channel and see if I can recall what I listened to. I’ll be glad to talk to you but I do not trust Facebook messenger.

    • @rdbare4216

@@marymccloskey1201 I’ve listened to father Spitzer too. Sometimes I think it’s quite good and sometimes perhaps it’s a bit windy. He needs to be a bit careful with his opinions. I heard him say that Neanderthals would not have had souls.. I also heard him say that people with cluster B personality disorders would have diminished capacity and be less responsible for their sins. I recall those statements because struck me badly and I believe he needs to be a bit more cautious. But I am opinionated too perhaps and I do respect him as a priest.

Thank you Father. I need to go to confession. I'm always afraid, and find reasons to avoid it. One of the beautiful things about confession is that you need to take pride off and bare your soul sincerely. Only today this was on my mind because I really miss receiving the Eucharist. Please say a little prayer for me to have courage to make a good confession, and avoid scrupples too. I picture in my minds eye the freedom and weight that can be lifted when we humble ourselves before the Lord and our trusted Priest. To walk out of the Confession box with a glistening soul. God Bless you, I love listening to your words and I think you are a wonderful Priest.

The Church has complicated sin and still does not speak out against it .Make the sin clear to all .Pick on the major sin first and the thought may never go away but you can control it .The greatest Gift the Church has is the Blessed Eucharist and to receive it without sin but the Hierarchy of the Church are saying it’s okay .What is the difference between an Alcoholic and a Homosexual nothing except the Alcoholic does not try and change the rules of the Church to make himself feel normal. Our Catholic Children are been bought up to think sin is okay .It’s not it hurts the person and always hurts another person .Keep up the great work Father

The Celtic/Irish influence on the development of private confession is a most intriguing story of the early middle ages. You can read about it on wiki (celtic influence on the sacrament of penance), Indeed the Irish role in keeping Christianity alive in the face of pagan advances across Northern Europe is one of the heroic, but mostly forgotten sadly, chapters of the history of the British Isles and Europe more widely. God-speeed to you Father, a thousand and five hundred years, or so, on from Saint Kevin and those great Irish Saints and from Ireland's past, in the preaching of the Truth.

Father here is the canon in full, on the proper place and way to conduct Confessions .
964 §1. The proper place to hear sacramental confessions is a church or oratory.
§2. The conference of bishops is to establish norms regarding the confessional; it is to take care, however, that there are always confessionals with a fixed grate between the penitent and the confessor in an open place so that the faithful who wish to can use them freely.
§3. Confessions are not to be heard outside a confessional without a just cause.

I have the "Catechism of the Catholic Church open in front of me at Canon 964, as published in Ireland by Veritas in 1994. Canon 964 opens with the words "Mary's role in the Church is inseparable from her union with Christ and flows directly from it." The word "Confession" is not mentioned in any shape or form in Canon 964, nor any other word that would signify Confession. Let us be very clear that whatever Catechism your are quoting from it is not the "Catechism of the Catholic Church".

Our parish plays loud Gregorian chants on a radio so you can't hear confession. The priest stays in an open room behind a large screen or curtain. You don't need to touch anything except the front door of church. Everyone in line is separated 10 feet. It's possible for confession to be done during these times. We used to have parking lot confession that was not anonymous. Yes, I agree that it keeps you more honest when you do confession face to face. But it can also hinder people from going out of embarrassment

    • @GodsCottage
      @GodsCottage  3 года назад

Confession boxes were only introduced in the 7th Century (by Irish monks). Confession in a confession box is valid, and if that is the only way you are able to go to Confession by all means use it. But if you desire the greatest openness to the healing power of the Sacrament of Confession, find a regular confessor to whom you either go face to face or who will know that it is you.

What sin would I commit if I had the chance? Yes, I have one sin that I am tempted to greatly and that is walking out on my marriage. I would not remarry or commit adultery, but I would leave my husband. What keeps me from doing so is my faith. I would rather die than abandon my Catholic faith. I have been to Confession a couple of days ago. It is still possible in the United States to do so. Since I am a traditional Catholic, the Sacrament of Penance is always conducted anonymously behind the screen. However, the priest's name is printed on the confessional door when it is not our regular pastor.

Father I am quoting from the Code of CANON LAW. BOOK IV.
    FUNCTION OF THE CHURCH
    "THE SACRAMENT OF PENANCE(Can. 959 - 997)"
    PART I. THE SACRAMENTS
TITLE IV. THE SACRAMENT OF PENANCE (Can. 959 - 997)
CHAPTER I. THE CELEBRATION OF THE SACRAMENT

    CHAPTER III. THE PENITENT

    • @GodsCottage

Sorry, I had presumed you were quoting from the Catechism of the Catholic Church. You are correct in your quotation from the Code of Canon Law. Clause 3 reads "Except for a just reason, confessions are not to be heard elsewhere than in the confessional". I would suggest to you that Covid 19 is a "very just reason" for hearing Confessions out in the open.
I would also point out to you, that priests have always heard the Confession of invalids in their own homes; and that when a person stops a priest as does happen, possibly in the middle of a busy airport, or on a street, or even when walking on top of a mountain, and asks to go to Confession, one doesn't say, "Sorry I can't hear your Confession here".

@@emmettgallagher4552 Confession boxes were only introduced in the 7th Century (by Irish monks). Confession in a confession box is valid, and if that is the only way one is able to go to Confession by all means use it. But for those who desire the greatest openness to the healing power of the Sacrament of Confession, I say, find a regular confessor to whom you either go face to face or who will know that it is you.

To the people He had appointed Church leaders, Jesus said, "Whose sins you shall forgive they are forgive. Whose sins you shall retain they are retained." In the early Church they took those words very seriously, demanding that those who committed serious sins do public penance before being readmitted into the Church.

God'sCottage yes you’re right Jesus said that he would build His Church and Jesus is the head of His body the church. He that believes and is baptized will be saved and baptism always followed immediately after believing. Believers believe that Jesus paid for the sins of the world and God doesn’t impute sins to those who believe. Romans 4:6-10. When we sin or mess up then we can boldly come before the throne of grace to receive mercy and comfort. Thank you Father that Jesus is the lamb of God who took away the entire sins of the world which included all mine and yours. John 1:29 1 John 2:2, Hebrews 4:16 and 10:19;20. Father " Can. 964 §1. The proper place to hear sacramental confessions is a church or oratory".
How can you say making an anonymous confession to a priest behind the traditional screen in a chapel is not somehow a true or genuine confession, no were in canon law is a traditional screen prohibited, the confessional in my chapel has the traditional opaque screen between the penitent and the priest.
Can. 987 To receive the salvific remedy of the sacrament of penance, a member of the Christian faithful must be disposed in such a way that, rejecting sins committed and having a purpose of amendment, the person is turned back to God.
The screen is only their to help those who find it difficult to confess to a priest, face to face, or someone who is used confessing behind the screen ,in no way does this diminish that persons confession to God through the priest.
The AA twelve steps is not a sacrament of the Catholic Church nor can it be used to model how a confession takes place.
It was Jesus Christ who instituted the seven sacraments
.We have enough innovators in the Catholic Church

      @GodsCottage  3 года назад +2

Canon 964 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church does not even mention the word Confession, much less the specify a proper place for the hearing of Confessions. Canon 964 is totally devoted to our relationship with our Blessed Mother. The section on Confession only begins with Canon 1422, nor do I see your quotation anywhere within it.

GowerMan 1 The Vortex is currently running a 54 day Novena and their website provides amazing Catholic material including the opportunity for livestream adoration.
Michael Voris reports what is going on in the Church and it is not positive. Don’t you often wonder why there are so few people sitting in the pews next to you? Organizations like Church Militant have shone the light on the things going on in the Vatican/hierarchy, activities which can only be described at negative and clearly detrimental to the reputation of the Catholic Church. I can understand why Father has started this God’s Cottage online ministry as he is scared of the pull and power of people who are telling the truth about the lacklustre priests who live in comfort, and have forgotten their duty to save souls from sin and eternal death.
