I've argued for years that it is. I think nostalgia argues 94-96 but 98 had way more balance regionally and a perfect mix of mainstream and underground albums. If I could drop a random person off in a year to understand hip hop, it would be 98.

@@dredocs I can play that Daz album all day. That and HKL vol2. Makk 10 and W.C. both came harder than Cube in 98. Snoop 98 album was better than that Cube joint. Daz first album is up there with Doggystyle and the Chronic as West Coast best Debut albums in Hip Hop. Easy 5 mic classic

In 1998, what made Hip-Hop great that year were Big Pun, DMX, The Lox, BEP before Fergie, Jay Z, Ja Rule, Blackstar, Cam'ron, the comeback of Ganstarr and Brand Nubian, Lauryn Hill, but you see the beginning of the downfall of real Hip-Hop with the Southern Rap BS with No Limit and the Cash Money Millionaires.
I think no limit did too much they were dropping CDs ever week it seemed. A lot of bad music but it somehow sold.
