This is also great because it avoids the big sharpness fall off at the edge of the frame that you might get using a single lens depending on your kit. Great shots again Nigel.
Took my boys to Iceland 3 years ago to expand their world...to teach them to see beauty that is unfamiliar in their daily lives. They both loved that experience so much... Selfishly, I watch your great videos to improve my photography, but I also want now to have my kids experience the Faroe's. Absolutely stunning...We let our world get so complicated, yet there is so much beauty in the simplicity of colored roofs...and emerald moss-colored volcanic earth...bathed by golden sun peaking below the day's cloudy coat...until just the right moment when all hell breaks loose with splendor. Those are the moments when we need our cameras...and our kids to be there!
Sir, I had been your fan from the first video I watch of yours, how you use to teach this technique are really amazing and another thing which I appreciated is your affection and love toward us, you always reply to the comments and this means lot to me when some is giving you and others this much attention, so thanks a lot for your love and teaching.
Hope you see those of us needing some help to get our game up to this level. You need to reach out to me sir. I share a passion to all of my works. That image on the mountains and the sunrise was absolutely Godly. I don't have a lot of fancy cameras but I see the shots and am trying to get a start up to go with some others I am working on. The passion your work puts on film comes shining through. I am going to keep learning from anyone like yourself who is clearly teaching me a hell of lot more than how to take a great picture.
Stunning images Nigel and certainly made best use of the prevailing light. To think when you made this episode you were commenting on reaching 50K in subscribers and here we are on Sunday morning and now nearly at 53K. A real privilege being part of your community
Nigel a huge thank you, I've followed you for a while now, and just today decided to try my first panorama - I was so confident in getting a great image and that's down to you! Thank you!!
Every time I watch your videos I come away inspired. Can't wait to get my calendar and see what print you sent with it. I have an idea for a unique frame for it that I hope works out.
I recently found your channel after purchasing my first Fuji camera and I watched so many of your videos already. I love the way you tell a story behind every amazing shot you take. Keep it up! And congrats for the 50k Nigel!
I was out photo scouting this morning in the Comox Valley BC and found a couple of compositions that scream for a panorama. I have been experimenting with this technique for about a year. It can really set the scene and mood for the viewer of the image. The trick now is to find a frame big enough to do it justice! Thanks again for you videos and images on Instagram.
Hey, This is Erick from Hollywood, CA. I’ve been keeping up with you since day one and let me tell you, YOU’VE TAUGHT ME SO MUCH. You’re a real inspiration and you make me want to leave this city of stars and explore the many other simplicities of the world! If I win, it’d be something huge and a great milestone in my developing career. I am also a Fuji Film X-T2 user, so again, this would be huge.
Hi Nigel, I understand so many subscribers, you do a very nice and natural job, it fells like talking directly to me! I started stitching with my 6 MP Nikon D70 14 years ago, as I wanted (and did) large prints, 150cm wide. I used a Nodal corrected Panorama head. After a while I found, that I can shoot hand held with no problems, but I need good overlap of the images. Stitching is not new with LR, there are many other programs and options (you could have mentioned). The main reason, why I write this comment: you did not mention a very important aspect (it may be just common cense for most of us). For stitching panoramas you have to set all settings of your camera on manual, also the ISO and focus!! Moving elements (waves, water,...) can be a problem for stitching. The leveling of the camera is far less important, as long as you just shoot enough pictures around you desired scene and crop later, as you did on your pano too. And you don't have to brake a lens to shoot panorama. I have the situation very often, that I want wider than my wides lens, that I have in my pocket, and I just shoot hand held and try to keep the camera in the right level or the horizon at the same level in the finder. Thanks for your interesting videos! dierk sorry, if that has been mentioned before, I did not read all 460 comments :-)
Just found your channel four days ago and already learned a lot from your videos. Especially your videos about composition helped my a lot even in these days.
Another great video for me the image with the person is the winner although both are great. Love the way you showed how a wide angle is not essential for wide angle vistas!
Awesome video!!! I used this technique in Horseshoe Bend because I wanted the whole view of it and also a third of the sky and and got very amazed by the final result!!!
I just learned so much about composition and more when I first started to watching you videos... Keep going Nigel, one of the best channels to learn photography so far!
Thanks so much for the videos. I've learned tons from you so far. I found your videos by chance after a recent backpacking trip in Wyoming. I'm newish to photography and I knew my photos from the trip were far far away from where I wanted them to be. With what I've learned from your videos, it's actually quite surprising how much my photographs have improved. Thanks a ton and keep it rolling!
I very much liked your this two weeks video format, where you show us a beautiful place, then something in your studio saying things which matters to you or teaching us cool stuff. And congratulations on your 50k subscribers.
Stunning photos Nigel! I'm continually impressed by Lightroom's capability to stitch, merge and create images. Maybe now I have no excuse for lugging around all of my lenses on every hike!
I've been meaning to try a panoramic but keep forgetting to try it. Now that I have the memory of your video in my mind, I will be more mindful of looking for an opportunity to use that technique. You always give great tips and make it look simple enough for even us novices to try. I think I've upped my game significantly thanks to videos like yours. Congrats on the 50,000! Cheers!
I've not thought about doing a panorama but it does work extremely well for landscapes. You don't get the distortion of a wide angle lens. Great tutorial as always, thank you!
I really like the pace of your videos, so relaxing. I knew that technique with Lightroom already and still, I enjoyed your tutorial. Thanks for your nice work!
I’m actually happy you broke your lens for if you hadn’t you might never had this great discovery! I have a 50mm lens which I almost never use. Going to Iceland this May & after watching this video will definitely bring & give a go at panoramas. Big thanks!
Another great video! I suffer with Ankylosing Spondylitis so seeing the amazing locations, whether near or far is a real inspiration for me to get out and look for those images. Now if only I had a new bag...
Nice one Nigel! I've started using this technique to replicate wide-angle shots when I can't be bothered to carry more than one lens on a trip, or in sandy/dusty conditions when I don't want to risk changing between lenses!
I had never thought of doing a vertical panorama like that before, great inspiration for something new to try! I'm struggling a bit with the inclement weather here right now, so it alwa amazes me how people get such stunning shots in overcast conditions.
Those really are some stunning panoramas. I will definitely use your technique going forwards. Congratulations on 50k subscribers! I have been here for quite a while and I think yours is one of the best photography channels on youtube!
I really want to go out ad try that pano technique. Sometimes you just can't get everything in with a normal pano, so this will be cool to try! Great idea!!!!
Thanks for another great vlog. Looking forward to Pebbles' next full feature ☺. Re the two images, the one with you in it definitely gives more sense of scale.
The Faroe Islands really look amazing, now on my to go list to photograph! Also loving your humour. Your choice of music and lyrics right after you mention in your studio that you broke your lens made me cough up my tea haha.
Great video Nigel. Let me add 3 tips for panoramas. Manual focus (after focusing where you want even if it’s infinity) to make sure the focus does not shift during the whole pano, manual white balance so you don’t have to correct that in post and finally lock exposure on the brightest area of the panorama, to make sure exposure does not change. Using the bracketing was a great tip and one that most doesn’t do when doing panoramas. It gives a lot more room to get more details on shadows and highlights. Fantastic video. Cheers.
Another excellent video, I think both images are fantastic and doubt you will have trouble selling either of them. Im new to lightroom and love watching and picking up new tricks you teach us. Thank you for being an inspiration to so many. Much Love Eric
Great video Nigel. I knew about the 1st technique but didn't realise you could do 2 lots of panos next to eachother then stitch those all together as well. Thanks for that I will have to go try it out now. Great images as well!!
Nigel, so sorry you broke your lens. I love your panorama, I love doing pano's too. I think you are headed for greatness in landscape photography. The Faroe Islands are so beautiful. Congrats on 52K followers.
I recently tried panoramas in lightroom for the first time and used an old 135mm ai lens but the results and was really impressed on how easy it was to stitch them all together! It seems counter intuitive to use a zoom lens for panoramas but the detail in the images were great! Got some amazing shots of snowdon last weekend! Keep up the great work!
Oh! And the image withe the person in it gives a better sense of scale than the one with te bird... the person is anchored down and easier to relate to where as the bird its a bit hazy on how close or how far away it is so harder to give you a sense of scale... (its not as iff you are posing for the picture anyway)
The Faroe Islands look stunning and you have shown what a wonderful landscape it is. Your videos show a good balance of the reality and how it doesn't always happen in landscape photography, but if it does you can achieve some memorable shots that are compelling, emotive and something you can savour for life. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for this beautiful and informative video. I have done some panoramas in Lightroom, but have not thought about bracketing and making them HDRs and panos at the same time! I also like the idea of shooting the upper and lower scene stretched out wide and stitching them all together. I can't wait to play around with this technique! You're a great teacher and I'm glad you are being recognized by more and more subscribers every day, you absolutely deserve it!!!
Hi Nigel, This one really hit home. I was passionate about photography a decade ago. I lost my mojo. I always knew I would find my way home. Recently I picked up the camera again. Your videos have inspired me. Thanks for all the great content.
I'm already subscribed on RUclips and Instagram. I have just recently started doing panoramas in Lightroom. This walk through clarified a few points for me, thank you.
Cracking stuff! You have the dream of combining being able to visit these sorts of places and actually having the knowledge to capture them in the way that the views deserve, keep it up
Hi Nigel! I absolutely love your photography and channel. I've been wanting to shoot landscapes myself for several years now, but somehow sadly I still haven't put any time or effort in it. However... I've been a new subsriber since last week and you absolutely trigger all my long lingering aspirations and pieces of love for landscape photography! Great tutorial Nigel. I have been doing panoramas and never thought of doing them in portrait. I also didn't realise that lightroom would stitch together a vertical panorama, so going try this out. Thanks Regards to bird and man images I would say man as it shows the depth and scale in the image.
Paper please! Earlier this year, I invested in a proper photo printer (Canon Pro 10) and HOLY COW it's fantastic! Changed my workflow / the end in mind. With so many ways to alter/enhance an image in post-production, often the image lingers on my harddrive unfinished as I putter around with options. In a way, printing compels me to commit to a final product. Very satisfying to 'finish' the job, and to hold the print in your hands...
Congratulations on 50K Nigel. I'd never thought of using a panoramic in a vertical format before, but there again, there's not much in the way of cliffs in The Solent! Maybe The Needles sometime!
It is nice that you try to mix contemplation and education in your videos - different people will be attracted by different aspects. And your IG is beautiful.
Thank you NIgel for once again educating me on the tools I have available. Not all of us have the budget to purchase many different lenses so this technique is nice to know. NIce to (briefly) see Pebbles again too! Congratulations on the 50K plus subscribers!
Thank you for taking us along to the Faroe Islands. You enthusiasm and excitement is what keeps me rewatching all of your videos and i look forward to my Sunday morning coffee vlog with you. I love both “Unfathomable Beauty “ images but I choose the one with the person as the one I would most like to hang on my wall.
Enjoy the weekly RUclips and fully realise the amount of work that you have to do to make these happen. Keep up the good work..
This is also great because it avoids the big sharpness fall off at the edge of the frame that you might get using a single lens depending on your kit. Great shots again Nigel.

You are an inspiration Nigel. I’m a beginner who’s trying to start and these videos keep the addiction alive!

Taking panos and making prints are often the most enjoyable moments in photography for me
I've just started using the panorama feature in lightroom and it has opened up so much more to my photography. It's amazing, thank you

I've been a fan or your work for a while now. Ordered your calendar and always enjoy your tutorials. I'm going to try this technique
All I've done since seeing your teasing video is look into trips to these islands! This video now confirms I sooooo need to go.
I am very happy that your Chanel is doing good. Your videos have been super helpful
Just found your channel four days ago and already learned a lot from your videos. Especially your videos about composition helped my a lot even in these days.
great video Nigel, it just shows how much you can do with just a simple setup. Thanks

I remember doing a lot of stitching back when I only had a 3mp camera. Will have to go back and try it again!
Great video!
Thank you Nigel your videos give more of a reason getting out there and do more photography keep up the great work.
I just learned so much about composition and more when I first started to watching you videos... Keep going Nigel, one of the best channels to learn photography so far!
I look forward to your Sunday videos every week! I love this technique, I find it super useful with my drone photography. Congrats on 50K!!

Means a lot - thanks for the really kind words Deborah 👊👍👊👍
Simply beautiful ! Congratulations Nigel, Keep up your beautiful work.
Love your videos Nigel! I appreciate that you want to share your knowledge with us.
Great video Nigel, I’ve done loads of horizontal panos but never tried a vertical...something I am going to try. Thank you !
Hi Nigel. The Faroe Islands and panoramas - what a stunning combination. Thanks
I've shot a few vertical panos with my drone and find the perspective setting always works better for them, as you did.

As a amateur photographer your tips are a great help. I loved both images, hard to decide which is better.
LOVE your Faroe Islands photos Nigel! Congratulations on 50K!
The Faroe Islands really look amazing, now on my to go list to photograph! Also loving your humour. Your choice of music and lyrics right after you mention in your studio that you broke your lens made me cough up my tea haha.
Very nice! Well done. You explained simply and effective the way of doing panos in LR. Thanks a lot!
Your videos has helped me create some photos. Thank you for everything you do!
I don't do Instagram, or any social media, but I still want to say I get inspiration from your videos keep up the good work.
Really enjoy your videos. I’m always anxious for the next one to be posted. Thanks for the inspiration.

Happiness what you share with others is amazing. Love your work... keep up the good work.
Another great video Nigel. Your B-roll shots are just amazing, I play it on a 4K tv and it feels like I’m watching planet earth.
Great job!!!
Another great video. I really enjoy you enthusiasm and tips. My favourite is the image with the person in it.
Good guide Nigel, The Faroe Islands look like another world, peaceful!
I love your genuine way of sharing your enjoyment and knowledge of landscape photography. Already applying some of your tips :) Thank you.
Thanks Nigel for amazing videos! I want the bag for my hikings! Congrats for the 50's!
Great video Nigel. I knew about the 1st technique but didn't realise you could do 2 lots of panos next to eachother then stitch those all together as well. Thanks for that I will have to go try it out now. Great images as well!!
A great video as always. Always good to start a sunday with a Nigel Danson video.
Nigel, so sorry you broke your lens. I love your panorama, I love doing pano's too. I think you are headed for greatness in landscape photography. The Faroe Islands are so beautiful. Congrats on 52K followers.
I have never stitched a photo before but your video has helped me to do my first . thank you
I recently tried panoramas in lightroom for the first time and used an old 135mm ai lens but the results and was really impressed on how easy it was to stitch them all together!
I used to go crazy trying to get images without anyone in them, but now I like your technique of placing somebody in a good spot. Thanks!
Thanks so much Debbie 👍👍👍
Wow, amazing panoramas! Thanks for this Lightroom technique.
OMG, I think you just opened up a whole new world for me, Nigel! :D Thank you!!
Incredible pictures again. I prefer the one with you in it rather than the bird. Fantastic channel, thanks for all the hard work!
Thanks, Nigel. You make it look so easy!
Cracking stuff! You have the dream of combining being able to visit these sorts of places and actually having the knowledge to capture them in the way that the views deserve, keep it up
Every grand scene should have a pano along with a more personal, unique shot. Great work as always Nigel!
Only 1 week away from my short summer holiday and you can bet your ass I will be out in the field!
Thank you for your amazing work and lovely tips and tuts! I will be following you for a long time, and hopefully someday we will meet up and hike together. Keep doing what you love!
Thank you for sharing your passion! It has inspired me to purchase a camera and start my journey into photography. Please keep up the great job.
Amazing images Nigel. Fantastic Vlog. Photopills is a great App and i use it all the time. Keep up the good work!!! Look forward to your next one
Great tutorial Nigel. I have been doing panoramas and never thought of doing them in portrait. I also didn't realise that lightroom would stitch together a vertical panorama, so going try this out. Thanks
Regards to bird and man images I would say man as it shows the depth and scale in the image.
Thanks - for sharing the stitching video - really useful and will give it a try
The boat in the pic made the big difference. Part of my Sunday morning is now dedicated to you :-)
Paper please! Earlier this year, I invested in a proper photo printer (Canon Pro 10) and HOLY COW it's fantastic! Changed my workflow / the end in mind. Nigel it is your success to have 50.000 . Great work with the Panorama. I do this any times at my work with lightroom to. Its a great tool.
Another excellent overview of methods, with a magnificent outcome.
Fantastic. Got to love a panoramic. Another great video Nigel.
Congrats on 50k subscribers. I really enjoy your stories every week.
Great film Nigel, I do love a Panorama. I think the answer to the quiz is 4 sheep!
