don't ask a scientist about their research if you don't want to hear _a lot_ of nerdy stuff from an overexcited full-grown adult. and you don't even need to understand what they are saying, just to listen. that's how easy it is to make a scientist happy 😅

While yes, most missions are for finding life and waste millions of dollars, they also help with detecting possible threats that would be fatal for the earth, this ensures that you keep living your normal life. There's an awesome young adult sci-fi story called "The Secret of Saturn's Rings." A scientist is trying to stop mining on Earth's Moon, because he thinks it'll ultimately lead to it breaking apart. He and his son go to Saturn to investigate the rings to see if it might've been a moon in the past, and discover ancient artifacts from an alien race. Seems they over-mined THAT moon! Any way, it's a great story for kids and teens, that's when I read it decades ago.
All space programs are ultimately a waste of money, they have no requirement to subsidise their own activities and the information gained by expensive missions is for the most part useful only to them. Society nor taxpayers benefit whatsoever so if the axe is going to fall it should fall on space exploration.

I wonder if the BBC writers have heard of a scientist named Albert Einstein. If so, why are they referring to gravity as a force? Einstein explained that the reason light (which has no mass) bends around mass is because mass bend space-time. So, the light is traveling in a straight line, around a curved space-time. So, when moons are traveling around a planet, they are not being affected by a force. They are traveling around a warped space-time.
More I watch more questions I have. What would cause the rings to vary in height? The one image of the shadows is convincing. But how's those peaks and valleys form?
Automatic craft can explore the Solar System much better than humans. Humans have to Breathe and Eat and P and S and are extra-ordinarily expensive to keep alive in space. The Apollo astronauts on the moon just placed a few instruments while stumbling around in their heavy clumsy spacesuits. Automatic probes don't have to go to the bathroom...or breathe.

True. As a matter of fact, all gas giants in our system have rings, albeit they are very faint. Saturn's are by far the most pronounced, leading to it being traditionally known for them.
I understand we have an ongoing mission to Europa- Jupiter’s moon, but, what is the point in exploring earth like conditions on a far away moon like Titan? Even if it’s liveable, with little scope for sun light, how is it even sustainable ? I am not sure if am able to connect the dots.
Titan might be earth like except it has an average temperature of -180C, far too frigid for organic compound activity. Water would be frozen as hard as steel. Complete waste of time, we would be better off launching a mission to the ice giants of Uranus and Neptune which have never had a dedicated mission to explore them, just a fly by back in the 80s by voyager 2.

Automatic craft can explore the Solar System much better than humans.
Humans have to Breathe and Eat and P and S and are extra-ordinarily expensive to keep alive in space.
The Apollo astronauts on the moon just placed a few instruments while stumbling around in their heavy clumsy spacesuits.
Automatic probes don't have to go to the bathroom...or breathe.
P.S. When the computer HAL (2001 a Space Odyssey) decided that humans were not needed for the mission HAL was being perfectly logical.

You can accidentally decimate alien life that may reside there with bacteria/virus from earth
And the oceans are under 70 miles of thick ice ...
That's the long term plan. NASA's Europa Clipper probe is due to be launched later this year. It will image the moon's surface and use radar to "see" underneath its surface. Meanwhile here on Earth, NASA is experimenting with tech to melt through kilometres of ice.
Pretty sure that's already on NASA's drawing board

True. As a matter of fact, all gas giants in our system have rings, albeit they are very faint. Saturn's are by far the most pronounced, leading to it being traditionally known for them.
Uranus has rings as well

I understand we have an ongoing mission to Europa- Jupiter’s moon, but, what is the point in exploring earth like conditions on a far away moon like Titan? Even if it’s liveable, with little scope for sun light, how is it even sustainable ? I am not sure if am able to connect the dots.

Titan might be earth like except it has an average temperature of -180C, far too frigid for organic compound activity. Water would be frozen as hard as steel. Complete waste of time, we would be better off launching a mission to the ice giants of Uranus and Neptune which have never had a dedicated mission to explore them, just a fly by back in the 80s by voyager 2.
I’m almost certain that ice moon didn’t explode in an instant with interstellar music behind it.
