Well an Ed Hochuli compilation would be inaccurate as there were multiple referees giving multiple calls. This in turn should result in the video being called a multiple referee excessively long penalty call compilation, there by summing up the totality of said video. The fact Ed Hochuli is in the video multiple time is mere coincidence and should be perceived as such. All those penalties offset, first down. Please reset the game clock to 2:44, thank you.
Before many of you say “man ed hochuli used to overexplain a lot” remember that ed was also a lawyer. His entire life he’s had to explain legal stuff to regular dumb-dumbs with no crayons or notepad. Its just habit at this point 😂
@@jayschafer1760 yeah I read an article that had some of the day jobs of some refs. One was a middle school principal and one was some kind of farmer I think
remember: they're explaining this to everyone- the players, the statkeepers, the coaching staff, the owners, the fans, the tv crews all hear this at the same time. So awesome.
I low-key hope Ed Hochuli gets into Canton one day. With how generally great he was at his job and how well he was able to explain stuff in detail (even if he did get clowned for it), he deserves that honor.
I love it when the commentators are trying to make sense of a call while Ed is still making his announcement and Ed ends up answering the questions the commentators have about it
Hochuli just explains it so everyone understands. And i love how the announcers seem to get annoyed by the explanation, like we all have 20+ years professional experience.
1) That was such a Cutler type of play. 2) I think that we can all appreciate that reply now allows for a clear recovery by the defense to become a turnover.
How many know-it-all fans are yelling at the ref or umpire for a call? Here you have refs telling fans why a call was made, explaining the rules, teaching us fans something, while shutting up the know-it-alls. Love this video, and love when refs explain rules in a matter of fact way, while not being condescending.
This is also whey they sometimes emphasize “by rule”. They know it’s going to be unintuitive (like one penalty offsetting three) or unpopular (like the defender preventing a TD by being out of bounds.)
Few referees can simplify a confusing, multiple-infraction play as well as Ed Hochuli. Many of his explanations on this reel had to be dumbed down for the coaching staffs and players (never mind the fans in the stadium and TV viewers).
It's so funny because people get all up in arms about referees not getting a call right, but like they're annoyed by the fact that they take so long to explain a call.
Ed hochuli's legal training dictates that take the simple and complicate it with complicated explanations, then give an explanation of the explanation., then decipher that with a recitation of the rules.
I love how Ed Hochuli explains it like he’s talking to someone who has never watched football before.
sometimes i dont always understand what is going on in the game. i was glad he did that
He's a lawyer when he's not refereeing games, hence his over-explanation (or least before he retired from refereeing....)
You have to know, He is a lawyer.
I want Morgan Freeman to narrate my life and Ed Hochuli to to explain it all afterwards.
That makes you THE most interesting man on earth!
Personal Foul: David Webb 3407. Unnecessary roughness. 10 years prison, 2nd down
This should be renamed to the “Ed Hochuli compilation”

why are you talking like he's dead
I think he even practiced law while he was a ref. So his job with the NFL was his side hustle
I would love to see him in a court room
@@LabRat8899 That's how it is for a number of NCAA and pro refs and umps. Day job pays the bills, games are a fun side hustle.

I fucking love stuff like this and working through all of the clauses of why Rule X doesn't apply because Rule Y happened.
'there was no penalty for holding; the player was just overpowered'

I remember one call of Ed Hochuli where he made the mistake and due to that mistake, the play could not be challenged.

i think after years of watching hundreds of highlight clips on youtube...this is my favorite
These are the random weird videos I love.
The ref in the Dever game that started cracking up at the number of penalties

I like that “it’s a grocery list here” and “don’t forget the eggs and the milk at the grocery store”
Clicking this video, figured that Ed Hochuli had to be here multiple times. The man had a way with words.
Would love to see a part 2!
They out here giving lectures
1:42 the thumbnail for other videos of this nature.
Ed Hochuli is the greatest official ever.
Some of these calls sound like closing arguments in a court case with a verdict being handed down 10 seconds later
Classic!
That's me if I were a referee. I always over-explain.
Do a most violent penalties clip.. great videos.. keep making more
Nah I'd get age restricted for sure, I even had a video taken doen for being too violent
@@savagebricksports1 all good!!
It looks like at the end that Harbaugh legitimately has no idea what he’s saying.

What if you did nfl 100 iq plays and It’s just randomly selected normal plays

Holy CRAP! EASY for You to say, Refs!
The great NFL ref Ed Hochuli. Boy does that man like to thoroughly explain the penalty.

Back when you could get an actual officiating crew 💯 ED Miss You Man !!
"it would be a legal recovery, by New England... down there"
The most shocking part of this video is Buck and Aikman doing a Texans game
We need another Ed Hochuli 😂
1:57 if all of those penalties weren’t offset, then the line of scrimmage would be in the stands 😂🤣
I miss Ed Hochuli! ❤
I'd rather have someone over-explain what happened than not have any explanation at all.
Baseball fans and announcers are often like... What on earth? Need to make umps explain things to everyone.
I loved ed hochuli
I hate the offsetting of penalties that clearly aren’t equivalent.
Ed Hochuli is the GOAT!!!
Better over than under am I right?
Just show this video to someone who doesn't know football and just watch them try to figure wtf is going on
Ed hochuli's legal training dictates that take the simple and complicate it with complicated explanations, then give an explanation of the explanation., then decipher that with a recitation of the rules.
Any ref video without Ed Hochuli is just a time-wasted video about guys in striped shirts.
I direct you to Ron Cherry's "Giving him the business" call. Awesome stuff, no Hochuli.
Ed Hochuli, that is all
Man where tf do you get these clips lol
Just on the internet. Believe me, after 5 years, i know my way around
NFL game pass probably
I miss Ed.

After review, there is no foul on the play. 😂
Ed Hochuli long talking
Back when refs were good
Ed was the best

Play the game. This is not the game sad they are 20 year olders the other 20yo that do not wear uniforms yous do not like. Sad.
