  • Lenire is a device designed by Neuromod Devices, a Dublin-based company, for the treatment of tinnitus. The device comprises two main components: Bluetooth headphones for auditory stimulation using sound therapy and a tongue tip device that delivers mild electrical stimulation to the surface of the tongue. This combination aims to reduce the severity of the tinnitus through a process known as neuromodulation, wherein your brain is trained to respond differently to your tinnitus, hopefully leading to the reduction or elimination of negative debilitating symptoms. In today's video, we review the evidence supporting Neuromod's approach and talk about the pros and cons of their technology.

    How severe is your Tinnitus?
    1. Barely noticeable
    2. An annoyance
    3. Debilitating
    Let me know, Matthew

I am deaf, have suffered from tinnitus since birth. I've learned to tune it out. Everyone comes and complains to me about their own tinnitus problems, and I always say they're working on it. My tinnitus ranges up and down, from 1 to 3. I have learned to keep my sodium levels down as much as possible. My cochlear implant masks it pretty well. Looking forward to "hearing" more about Lenire by Neuromod. Thanks for sharing with all of us DHH people.

My tinnitus is anywhere from a strong 2 to a moderate 3. I couldn’t hear your tinnitus tone because the noise in my head drowned it out. I get ringing, buzzing and continual tones (which are different in my left era from those I get in my right ear). Some of these sounds are always present, some appear for a short time, go away and then come back again. And I hear my pulse with a slightly different tone perceived in each ear. It is an incredible, incessant racket. I can remember hearing my pulse and mild buzzing as early as age 7or 8. I’m currently 70 and have no memory of true silence. It is a misery and I would absolutely pay for a significant reduction.

I have extremely bad Tinnitus in my right ear. Three years ago I was assessed for Lenire here in Ireland and I was advised that I wasn't a good candidate so I got a single hearing aid instead. That's been a help but I feel that my hearing has declined recently and my tinnitus has greatly worsened. The Tinnitus is now too loud and I'm not sleeping or relaxing properly and I'm feeling very beaten by it.

I would describe my tinnitus just as you described yours: a high pitched tonal annoyance that becomes worse with stress, fatigue or illness. During those more annoying times, it creates a “feedback loop” increasing my stress and fatigue. It does not prevent me from getting on with life.

I have had tinnitus for at least 30 years. It doesn’t bother me much during the day but once I lay down to sleep and things get quiet then it’s quite loud and wakes me up often. I also have a neurological movement disorder called dystonia. I have a deep brain stimulator implanted. My tinnitus started long before I got the stimulator 14 years ago. My question is would I be able to use this device with DBS?

I wonder, if one can successfully eliminate ear ringing, whether this new silence then allows him to better hear external sounds of about the same pitch?

    @howardskeivys4184 6 месяцев назад

I suffered from tinnitus at the age of 3. It totally disappeared when I was 5. However it reappeared about 6 years ago and is still with me today. It manifests itself as a high pitch tone, exactly like the tone you played. I would categorise it as very annoying. Sometimes a lot louder than others and sometimes presenting a 2nd tone, or harmonic. I’m kind of used to it now and go about my daily life doing my best to ignore it. It is most annoying when you’re in a silent environment like trying to sleep, though frequently the wife’s snoring partially drowns it out.
I’m also an audiophile. My escapism is to relax, listening attentively to music. My tinnitus does mean that I have to listen at higher volumes.
Tinnitus also affects my orientation. If I’m in a wide open, crowded space and someone calls my name, I have no idea from which direction that voice came. All that my audiologist can offer me, is a hearing aid. That would be of no use to me.

I'm 55 year old, with mild / moderate hearing loss. Have been having insomnia for atleast 2 decades, and misophonia + hyperacusis for atleast 10 years that gradually got worse and worse and finally became SEVERE about 3 years ago, then I developed SEVERE tinnitus suddenly in Oct 2021. In the first 12 month, my tinnitus was really debilitating, the second year a little better although with the help of a medication that my PCP prescribed for insomnia, so in second year, my tinnitus was not debilitating, but very annoying. Over the last 6 months, I have been using some sound to mask the tinnitus, so it is now less annoying than before even when the sound is off. I will certainly use the Lenire because I would love to regain the silence in my head that I engoyed before! (Hopefully). 🤞

My tinnitus is more of an occasional annoyance but at times (seldom) very intrusive. It has been getting worse in frequency and severity over the past year. Generally if I focus on a task, its not bothersome. Would I pay $3K for the treatment, not at my current level, but if it continues to worsen, I might really need some mitigation as when it is at its worst, it is intrusive and mildly painful.

My tinnitus is slightly more (2.45) than an *annoyance* and sounds like dry sand sliding down a taut sheet of aluminum foil. I've had it for 2 yrs now and cope by trying distractions, like: going to the seashore, city sounds, etc, or more usually listening to RUclipsr Dalesnale who posts 10 hr-long sessions of different tones. I often sleep with earbuds to mask the tinnitus and listen with earbuds to music or video with a "Sweeping Violet Noise" playing in the background (as I write this, too.) I am intrigued by the Lenire approach, it seems quite novel, while the cost is a bit high.

I got Tinnitus at the beginning of 2020, and went through a long journey of spending a lot of money for things that didn’t work. Over the next three years, it got to where I could deal with it very effectively. A few weeks ago, I had an “acoustic event” Where I was exposed to a very loud noise, and my tinnitus got much louder. I am about to visit an audiologist next week. I would like to try this, but since I spent so much money the first time around on stuff, that didn’t work, I am very leery of this.

  • @kevinvandenberg
    @kevinvandenberg 6 месяцев назад

    Hi Matthew,
I've had some amount of Tinnitus for many years. For the most part, I only have noticed it when getting into bed or otherwise relaxing in a quiet (and often dark) place. Solidly falling into the #1 severity. It's a constant, high-pitched (approx 8200Hz) set of tones in both ears (I can't tell if the two ears are slightly off from one another, or if I'm hearing harmonics). At random times I may get a flare in one ear for a minute. I'd noticed that it will flare an hour or so after eating something with pork in it, or other salty foods , or perhaps maybe sugary?? However it has been getting worse (louder).
in June of last year I had a fall resulting in a TBI with brief loss of consciousness. I don't know that it was right away because in the early stages of concussion recovery I was dealing with a lot of things. But in the last few months the volume has increased. I'm now aware of the Tinnitus almost all of the time, and am easily able to perceive it while watching TV at normal volume. The volume of the Tinnitus in those quiet surroundings easily pushes it into the "strong #2" range. I am still able to function, so I can't honestly call it #3. But it's REALLY annoying. Even as I type this, I'm in a quiet setting and it's so loud I'm struggling to focus on writing this comment.
I've been trying to get some relief in the past and been told "you're getting to that age,...hearing loss...it's natural...nothing to be done about it". Frustrating. But finally this fall I was able to get a referral to an Audiologist. According to my test results, I don't have hearing loss that would warrant hearing aids. However she referred me to a local place that specializes in Tinnitus relief and also mentioned Lenire. I've reached out to both and heard back from Lenire that my information has been forwarded to a local authorized specialist (which must be the one I already had contacted). They, have a long waiting list for appointments. Meanwhile, also saw an ENT that the audiologist recommended (I've also got balance issues of the vestibular variety). Again, I was told CBT and/or other sound therapy was the best bet, but I shouldn't need hearing aids for hearing loss alone.
I was already informed by the Tinnitus specialists, "we don't participate in any insurance and you'll first need to come in for an evaluation...." I've been prepared for high numbers $$$. Meanwhile I've tried many apps on phone and tablet for anything from white/pink/brown noise, to binaural beats to the Zen Tinnitus app...and for many I'm still hearing my Tinnitus while playing the sounds. I don't want to increase the app volume enough to drown out the Tinnitus or I may end up with hearing loss!
So, if Lenire actually works and only asks 30 minutes 2x/day, I would find a way to come up with $3000. I just hope my name comes up on the waiting list before my Tinnitus is so loud that it moves to #3 debilitating. Nothing seems to be reducing the volume. I really hope it doesn't continue to increase. I'm already dealing with enough else from the TBI to have to deal with a deafening level of constant high-pitched 24/7.
I've honestly had such a frustrating experience with medical providers taking me seriously as well as the volume (pun intended) of information on the Internet that I have no way of verifying/validating or sifting through, I'm close to being at wit's end.
Apologies that this is probably more than the short response you requested. But to me context is everything and so I felt I should give some context to go with the score and willingness to pay for Lenire.
    Regards...Kevin

Ironically, today I received the call back from the local tinnitus clinic. I'm scheduled for a seminar on Feb 6th, which serves as the first part of their eval. They reserve appointments for the 2nd half in the following weeks. They are the only authorized Lenire provider in my state. If they feel it will be a good fit, they will be able to provide one. The price for the device and all follow up visits is north of that $3000. But I'm told widex hearing aids aren't significantly less expensive, so... We shall see. And I will share.

As for the tonal sound that you are plagued with, I couldn't hear it even when going back and turning up the volume.
Regarding my tinnitus, it is an annoyance bordering on debilitating. I cannot always hear or understand what my wife tells me unless I know she is ready to speak and I am facing her.
Being retired, on a fixed income, the price would pretty much keep me from further studies on this treatment. Also, due to my age, I can't justify that expense for a possible short period of use or relief.

I've had tinnitus for many years - since at least 1974 - after my military years. For most of my adult life, I would classify it as an annoyance, very significant at times, but still just an annoyance. However, for about the last 5-10 years, since around the time I turned 65, it has become more severe and significantly impacts my ability to sleep, listen to music, carry on conversations, etc. So I would classify it now as borderline debilitating.
After a knee replacement surgery a few years ago, one of the pain pills they gave me almost immediately elevated my tinnitus to an unbearable level, so much so that I would not be able to continue living with it. Fortunately, I sensed a link to the pain pill and after a couple of hours, my tinnitus went back to its' normal level - still uncomfortable, but survivable. And I never took another pain pill to test my theory.

What makes me think it was the Methocarbamol is because for other earlier surgeries, I have previously taken Hydrocodone and never noticed it affecting my tinnitus before.

It is the constant 24 hour a day high pitch ringing.

I have had tinnitus since may 17th, 2023. I even had hyperacusis or special hight sensitivity to loud noise as well as dizziness. Really. it's hard to hear that fucking buzzing in my head all time. I can't sleep well and I go to work always feeling tired everyday. I visited two different medical centers in Dublin to make audiometry tests and the results said that everything was ok in my hearing system. Later I went in Madrid, attending another center specialized in Tinnitus, and the doctor prescribed to me glucocorticoids and special vitamins and relaxing drugs. My dizziness and hyperacusia dissapeared but not tinnitus. Now, I don't have money to pay by myself all the treatment with lenire. i don't know if AIB Bank (I have banking account there) in Ireland could give a health loan to try this method.

Well, either your tonal tinnitus precisely aligns with mine or I have hearing loss at that frequency (both?), because I cannot hear your example! Guess it's a good thing that I have an audiology appointment this morning😂 Very interested in the Lenire device and will ask the doc about it. However, the price tag is pretty much a deal breaker, since I am also looking at purchasing hearing aids in the immediate future.

My Tinnitus is between 2 and 3. I couldn't hear your Tinnitus sound. My left ear is now bad enough that I've stopped playing in a band (prior to Covid). I'd gladly pay $3000 for an 80% chance to treat my Tinnitus (bit unfortunately - no Lenire clinics in my country).

I have constant tinnitus in both ears now, my left started in 04/2007. I have 3 sounds, a low lawn mower sound, a mid hissing sound and a very high cicada sound. It sounds like I have thousands cicadas in my head constantly. It worsens when I'm stressed or anxious.
Is a viscous cycle because the tinnitus makes me stressed and the stress makes my tinnitus worse.

24/7 tinnitus. Crickets masks it well. It's more than a nuisance because it never gives me a break. The only break I get is from masking. I've tried all the OTC treatments. I couldn't afford that treatment, but a trial treatment would be good and I'd jump at the chance.

Hiya, im 25 years old and i've had tinnitus for as long as i can remember. Only a veeeery mild case though, like a mild 1 at worst, i just knew it as the sound of silence. However following an ear infection fairly recently (around 4-5 months ago) it got worse and now id class mine as a solid 2 at this point, worse in my left ear. It sounds extremely similar to your tinnitus that you played a clip of in this video. Its an annoyance that i'm struggling to rid myself of in daily life but it isn't at the point that i cant sleep and my best hopes and wishes go out to those who class theirs as a definite 3. I have to mask it with rain sounds or its quite panic inducing. I have Asperger's syndrome so i literally can't subconsciously filter out ANY sensory information at ANY time so the best i can do for now is mask it with other sounds.
I'm going to the closest Tinnitus Clinic at the end of the month and i'm going to ask them about this new Lenire treatment, ill spend as much as i have to in order to get myself in a better position with this condition. i have my whole life ahead of me and i dont want to be obsessing over this for the entirety of it haha.
If i can just get it to the point where it doesnt peek in as much when im going about my business in daily life ill be happy again.

The more I looked into this, I have tinnitus, the less sure I was about it. I was seeing closer to 50/50 results. I initially thought this would be a device used at a doctor’s office and not something you needed to buy. The other thing that turned me off is the cost, more so when you can look at EU prices that were $2K less for the same device.

I couldn't hear the tone you played to demonstrate your tinnitus. I played it back a few times. That was strange! Mine is very bad. The sound is like one of those old tube television sets warming up. You know, the frequency sound. I can hear it over a jet engine. My hearing aids do not help with the tinnitus.

all of you pseudo influencers are promoting this BS, money talks, right?
lenire it's totally a scam, doesn't work, and worst, it could aggravate your tinnitus.
Lots of people are saying that lenire aggravates tinnitus in lots of cases, and there is almost no success story.
    Never use lenire
