You are right except, please take the "black" comment out. Most white people saw Nick for the first time on America's Got Talent and liked him. He was cool, funny and friendly. He did a perfect performance as a host on that show. And many missed him when he was off the show. In this clip, Jay Leno, the white guy, treated him with respect. The internet heckling would have less of a sting if Nick was dressed like Will Smith, asked Jay which car he would like to drive. Or as a good host, ask Jay which is his favorite car and what does he like about it. Nick was spending time with a role model comic and car enthusiast and Nick treated him as an equal. It would be like me giving financial advice to Warren Buffet. What we have lost in our culture is the importance & the skill to show respect without pandering and being a good host.
We used to learn how to show respect to others from our parents, grandparents, teachers, clergy & even popular culture. Not so much now. It's a skill that we have to re-discover. And even if Nick was perfect in every possible way, there will still be hecklers or useless trolls on the internet. Unfortunately, it comes with the territory.
